Wow, look at the distance between the two sights. They are way to close together. Do they cause any problems? My AK rifles:
^Romanian WASR 10/63 in 7.62x39.^ This was from the day I purchased it back in 2012. It has wood like this now.
^Century AKMS^ This one was built here in the US, with a mix of American and Polish parts.
Fun fact: Steel AK magazines make excellent bottle openers.

Guns. Glorious Guns.

You guys need to find yourselves an old XP 70.
I swear, they're like the AK of the Super Soaker world in terms of reliability.
As for range, you can still shoot quite a ways with an AK, especially with upgraded sights or optics. Just don't expect the pinpoint accuracy of an AR.
I hear that 5.45x39 AKs are more comparable to AR rifles in terms of accuracy. I don't have any hands on experience with them though. As far as I'm concerned, when it comes to AKs, most glorious 7.62 is the only way to go.
Well, the 7.62 by 54 can hit targets 800 yards outs which is why I haven't bothered getting a .308 when my rifle with the 77grain rounds can hit 700 yards out. An extra 100 yards isn't worth the price which is why I am going the .300 winmag route which can hit targets at 1200yards. It's not as good as the .338 lapuamagnum 1500s, but it's good enough.

Isn't there also a company that creates AKs with American and Russian parts? They had a partnership with Izhmash but I guess that ended with the sanctions.
All AKs in non-sporting configuration are required to have at least 10 US made parts for them to be legal under US federal law, 18 USC 922 ®
I believe you're thinking of Arsenal Firearms. They import (or used to) Russian Saiga AKs which come to the states looking like this (sporter config) and convert them into the standard AK pattern by relocating the trigger, adding a pistol grip, and standard AK stock. By doing so, the converted rifle is now subject to 922®, and must have many foreign parts switched out for US parts, in order to reach the magic number 10, which somehow, makes it legal again.
922® is beyond retarded. If I put too many foreign parts on my AK, functionally identical parts, mind you, I could get fined, and go to prison. MAKES SENSE.
*shrug*
Arsenal still does stuff with Hungarian rifles I think. Very high quality, but they're a little pricey for me though. $1200 for an AK? NOPE! I can buy two cheaper ones for that kind of money, that will function just the same, even if they're kinda ugly.
You an buy parts kits too, from just about any country of origin, and build your own rifle on a US-made receiver. Just make sure you don't use too many foreign parts!
What's the difference between a US-made trigger and a Russian one?
A few years. And a whole lotta money.

Not that I've ever noticed. I kinda like the open-style sights, but that's just me.
You can get some peep sights for them, and they do seem to improve accuracy a little bit, at least from my experience. I eventually took them off, and went back to the open ones after awhile. They're easier on the eyes if you ask me.
---------------------------------------------
I'll likely never shoot anything past 300 yards, as long as I'm living here at least, so I don't really see the need for something I can reach waaaaay out to 1200 with.
Although... I did buy a raffle ticket for a Barrett M82, so we'll see if I say that in a few months lol.

I go to the woods a lot for my zeroing in and shooting. I see it as a test of skill even if I'll never use it. Also, I am not a fan of .50cals due to their weight of the gun itself and the actual ammo. Not to mention it's about $8 a round.

Yeah, a .50 would be absolutely freakin' useless to me, and there's no way I could afford to feed it, but...

There's no way in hell I'd say no to one of these, especially if all I had in it was $40 for a raffle ticket lol.

Good news, for only a measly $12,000, you could get your own anti-materiel rifle.

Good news for me, I'm qualified and can use one for free if I assign it for ops!
All I have to do is sign a few papers and promise not to shoot anyone! (It's a war-crime to shoot a person with an anti-material weapon...)

You know as much as I love firearms, I'm a little uncomfortable with the notion of anyone other than Military or Law Enforcement possessing anything chambered in .50. I know the incident rate for that caliber is among the lowest, but still....

I'm with you there. Main reason? Bloody expensive. There's another reason we don't fire that much. Ten rounds cost Uncle Sam $40.

I don't mind it if the person can actually afford it since the skill level to use one for long distance shots isn't common.
