Why does Tali hate Miranda?

After stopping Cerberus from controlling the Reapers on Horizon, Tali can be found drinking in the Normandy's lounge. She talked about Miranda, and used the "b" word. Did I miss something? In Mass Effect 2 they never got into any arguments, nor did they talk about each other. Did something happen in one of the booksarrow-10x10.png?

Cerberus attacked the flotilla inbetween games so, Miranda is hated by association.

Plus, her personalities clash. Neither likes the other's attitude.

Plus, Miranda had sex with Shepard on top of her console. That is just adding insult to injury.

Tali: Why is my workspace so sticky? I didn't spill any drinks the last time I was here...

I avoid that scene with Tali, if alive in my playthrough, since it overshadows the fact that Traynor's family lives on Horizon and most likely are dead

Yeah, that's another issue. She has lines, but it doesn't do it justice. It's beyond devastating.

Like she'd remember even if she did.

The ME2 engineering deck is basically a party waiting to happen. From Tali and Grunt's shitface blackout antics, to Donnely's scotch love, Zaeed's supposed lethal barfights and Jack's boasting about her inhuman tolerance levels. I'm really surprised that we never walked into a party in progress down there, with Gabby stuffed into Grunt's empty tank so as not to rat on everyone else.

I think it's more about admiration, respect, or envy. Tali explains her reason pretty well. She says that Miranda never changed herself to please her father, and in the end she managed to fight against him. As for Tali, it was quite the opposite.

Tali said she did not like her, then she called her a b***h. I was just asking because in all of Mass Effect I had never heard Tali say anything like that to any one person. I thought that a lot of people liked Tali. In fact most of the crew seemed to be nice to her. Ashley -- despite her opinion of aliens -- referred to her as a sister. As soon as Tali said she did not like her, the first thought that came to my mind was, why? What happened? Then she said she was a b***h. If she was just talking about her in general then... I guess nevermind. But if something did happen between them, I would certainly like to know what it was.

Not liking someone does not mean you hate them. If you truly believe it does, I question how you get by in social life. You're seemingly overlooking all of the context with these two characters. Other posters have done a far better job than I could of elaborating on that. You're free to continue thinking she hates Miranda. I still disagree with your assertion.

In short I disagree with the notion that she hates Miranda and I think Tali did a good enough job explaining he reasons for calling her a b*tch. She doesn't just say it off-hand, she follows it up by describing why she feels that way. If her excuse wasn't good enough for you then there's likely nothing anyone else here can add to it to satisfy whatever you're looking for.

No, she doesn't. The only "b-word" Tali ever even says in regards to Miranda is "bosh-tet". She says that Miranda was rude to her and always full of herself, but she never calls her a b***h.

I never realized there was a variation where she DOESN'T call her a b*tch. Makes sense though that she would bite her tongue if talking to a Shepard that romances Miranda. She always calls her a b*tch in my playthroughs but my Shepard always romances Tali so...

Miranda is my favorite romance in Mass Effect 2. Plus she has the best sex scene. I would have rather done Miranda in her room, though. She has the second best bed on the ship.

^ Indeed, but she's happy to let Shepard lie on the cold metal floor with his naked buttocks.

Right around this time, Javik also has his "shard" scene about whether he should remember dead friends. Like they're assuming Shep is going through the same things. Like it works if Miranda just died... or even Jack in the next mission, if you abandoned Grissom.

Well to be fair. You'd have to do a extremely specific playthrough to avoid seeing any of Shepards friends/allies die during ME3 until that point.

You'll have to avoid Mordins death first either by him already being dead in ME2 or by Wrex being dead, Maleons data being destryoed and choosing the right dialogue options.

Then you'll have to avoid:

Grunt's possible death,

Wrex's possible death if you sabotage the cure with him in charge,

Thane dies for certain if he still lives,

Samaras possible death if you're a jerk,

Kellies possible death during the Cerberus coup,

Tali could die

Legion dies for sure if he is stil alive

And Mirandas possible death.

So in short. If you don't metagame to the very maximum you'll never see a ME3 playthrough where none of Shepards friends/crew die before that scene. And even then they had to die in the suicide mission first, which wasn't that long ago in-game.

Oh I know. I mean, the timing is right around Horizon/Sanctuary and the Cerberus base. I'm just talking about the narrative pace they set here.... not that you could avoid death (and also in Javik's case, the indoctrination) of squadmates. Mordin or Tali wouldn't be the most fresh thing in one's mind, as far as deaths go.

Did you not play ME2 OP? Most of the crew didn't like Miranda, they thought she was a stuck up biatch. I always laugh whenever I remember the team meeting before the assault on the collector bsse, when Miranda recommends herself for team leader and Jack says hell no, whilst Garrus stands behind her and shakes his head in disagreement at the very notion of Miranda being made team leader lol

Funny times.

That whole side of the table is like the "cool kids". Jack, Tali, Garrus, Grunt...

You know if Jack and Garrus are killed because of no armor and no shields and Samara isn't recruited, Jacob will say something to Miranda about everyone not liking her before Shepard chooses someone to lead the 1st fire team

I'm still curious as to why Garrus would disapprove. He and Miranda don't ever interact at all, and he never gives an opinion on her. If anything, he'd admire her for her work ethic. It's almost hand-in-hand with his. They both dislike the red tape and bureaucracy, and they both take the most direct route to accomplishing their mission.

Still the Cerberus angle, I'd wager. TIM's played fast and loose with them and Miranda's still his stand in at that point. Garrus trusts Shepard, not her.

Or perhaps its a more dispassionate assessment. He doesn't think she's a good choice because too many people have a problem with her. In a do-or-die situation that may come back to bite everyone on the ass.

I always thought Garrus was shaking his head at Jack's response to Miranda, at her bad attitude and defiance even when everyone was trying to pull together to finish the final mission. He was looking at Jack and shaking his head at her...it looked disapproving. Maybe I got it wrong...oh well!. He even expresses an attitude toward Jack during her rescue mission in ME3,in classic Garrus style, and she tells him off.

It could probably be this too. It's been a long time since I've played ME2.

Nope, lol. Just watched it on youtube. If Jack isn't there he actually tells Miranda he doesn't want her leading. I've never had a teammate (in ME2) die so I thought he was disapproving Jack, but it had to be Miranda. He seemed pretty pissed off.
