So, this seems like the place to put this, but I've a small rant:

I was looking for matches on Routine, because even as a level 10 Alchemist, I can't trust myself to stay alive much on Threatening. I find a match, and get thrown in at the tail end of a match. No problems there, it's to be expected. To my shock, there are Venatori and Red templars with Demons, but that's getting away from my point. After the match we're back in lobby and I see it's 2 Keepers, an Elementalist, and me(Alchemist). I suggest that one of the Mages become a Warrior, because no matter how little gold you get from them, I prefer to have one of each class to open class doors. One of the Keepers, also a random, says he doesn't want to change cause he does have any other characters, and I point out that that's not true, because you get the Legionnaire by default.

At this point, The Elementalist chimes in, asking if I'm gonna ready up, and I tell him the same thing. He brings up the fact that I joined his lobby, I ask him what his point is, he says he isn't changing, and neither is his friend that just started. I ask why, and he says the same thing, no other characters. I again say that he is given the Dwarf by default. He promptly starts to laugh at me for wanting to open all the doors on Routine(cause apparently wanting money is a bad thing), and I choose to leave, robbing them of a Rogue door opener. It's a shame really, cause now his friend will gain money slower and not have as many characters as quickly.

So, am I the only one that likes opening doors and prefer to have one of each class in an operation?

I used to feel the same way.  I wanted to open all the doors and always picked a class that was missing whenever joining someone else's lobby.  However, the terrible RNG in this game after investing hundreds of hours, made me and the people I generally play with not want to open doors anymore.  We just generally blaze through everything and open treasure rooms that are guaranteed to have no guardians inside.  Saves time and effort.  Also, routine gives so little money it's not even worth the effort.  People also play whichever class they want to play for various reasons like unlocking portraits and banners or they want a promotion for a specific stat.  We can't really force others to play what they don't want to play.

Enjoy yourself.  You will find groups that want to open everything, and groups that don't.  Just go with the flow. :)

Yea, true, the guy just frustrated me, and I needed it out of my system.

I always do. I've got my own rag-tag group, but some aren't on, or are playing other things atm.

It varies. In all honesty, you make about the same amount of coin but gain more experience points by speedrunning through levels vs opening all the treasure room doors.

But I prefer opening the doors. Feels more dungeon-crawler and quest-like and RPG to me rather than the min-max of speedrunning. I play more for fun than for prestige (which I know is technically considered fun by others) and for me fun is going after the treasure rooms, too.

So, to answer your question - you're gonna find both types of lobbies in your travels. If someone wants to argue about it, I'd just skip out and try to find another lobby if you can. I personally switch to a "needed" class if I drop into a lobby and see one lacking. Just my thing.

What platform are you on? If PS4, when do you usually play? If we're compatible, I'm all for friending and raiding treasure rooms together sometime. If not, I wish you luck in your travels, friend.

Yea, I left, their loss. I usually do the same thing, switch to missing class. I'm on 360, not enough money to upgrade right now, and even then I prefer Xbox, but I'd definitely group up with you on PS4. Good luck in your travels as well!

I've given up on treasure chests, they're always full of disappointments :(

Like I needed another level 2 dagger, thanks RNG

You just never know, though. There's been at least one (if not more) BSNers here who pulled a Caliban or Sulevin Blade or some high-end unique from a treasure room.

I usually ask when my group comes to the first door we encounter.

If they just keep speeding by....that's cool.

If they want to open them....that's cool too.

It's when 1 or 2 ppl open a door and the rest of the group hauls ass and gets destroyed or the guys who open the door get owned. That irks my nerves.

While you're welcome to open doors if you want, he was actually right.  Wasting time opening doors in Routine is straight-up pointless.  Even the free, unguarded doors flat-out aren't worth the time it takes to open them unless you split the group.  Hell, it might even be pointless on Perilous--which is a problem by the way.

If you are happier as a player opening doors, then by all means continue.  But there's absolutely no point in making a stink over opening doors and for god's sake, don't be that guy who constantly spams at the door and throws a fit if the team doesn't want to open it.  Had to deal with a few of those the other day (new-to-Perilous players for the weekend event) and not only was it annoying as hell but they actually cost us several runs.

Just find another lobby. No need to whine about it on bsn.

I also prefer to doing all treasure rooms just for the sake of it, but I also see that "demanding" or even suggesting (this is the internet) people to change their character can be problematic. If they don't realize it themselves, they will only take offense from being told what to do.

I like it if there's a well-balanced party, but I reduce it to "squishy" and "non-squishy". I prefer playing as Hunter, but if there's too many mages or other rogues, I change to Legionnaire or Templar. An all squishy party can make it through though; most view the Keeper alone as trump, since Barrier is or can be a complete game changer in the MP. If the Keeper's a newbie however, there's not much to gain from ofc.

Don't worry about him. It's how we say "Nice to meet you!" around here.

-snip-

I never say "no" to opening doors for people, but in this story you're telling: you seem like the one with the problem, not the guy who refuses to change. If this guy had switched and had absolutely no decent equipment/items/abilities for that kit, you're essentially asking him to be a door-b**** for the entire game. That's rude. The 100 extra gold you'll reap from opening a potential door doesn't outweight the risky possiblity that you'll unleash a revenant on an unprepared party and end up wiping. Then you've lost not only the potential for 600+ more gold but also all of the experience the team would have garnered otherwise.

If you're that obsessed with gold you should get real good with an arcane warrior and solo perilous by yourself.

You will be rolling in riches.

Edit: I don't mean that to sound snarky. But seriously, solo perilous a couple times and you will net yourself a ton of gold just for the speedrun. Actually, you should really consider doing a few speedruns (with other people not just yourself) on perilous when you get good enough. The money starts to flow in like you can't believe and after awhile you don't even miss the doors. I know because I used to open every single door myself; now I earn 25+ k in one afternoon.

Doors are a waste of time. I thought that was pretty well understood here. I wonder who has played MP for more than 500 hours and still do doors (I actually know one dude who opens the doors just to kill more enemies, and ignores the treasure, lol).

I never did doors other than during my first week playing DAMP and I have always had more Gold than I can bother to spend. It may take some time to understand it, but eventually new players will find the no-doors policy appealing, not to mention that it will likely get them to play with better teams.

Now let's get to what really matters, XP. My favorite class layout would be a group consisted of high team XP generating classes, and that normally excludes warriors (Templar might be an exception) and some rogues (dual wield being a no-no). One of each Mage is a very well-rounded, enjoyable and productive layout.

When I'm good enough to solo Threatening I might start thinking about Perilous, but consistently beating Perilous with a team of 4 is tough enough for me  :D .

As for the gold, I'll stick with the group, if they open doors, I'll help, if they don't, that's fine.

If I pass a free chest of the right door-type I'll typically pop it open regardless.

I don't like opening the doors or breaking pots on Routine and usually run ahead when people open them unless I know they're beginners and need the help.

In higher difficulties I like bashing the pots and opening the doors, though I often like to be the door guard as on PS3 the player base has gotten new players and not too many are aware that opening the doors often gets you swarmed. Many a time I've felt tempted to break out a mic and yell at peeps who open the door in mid fight or enemy around the corner.

Not the doors again. Everyone just hurry up and get better gear so you won't want to open any doors any more.

This is one aspect of the game they definitely need to rebalance.  They put in the effort in making these treasure rooms part of the multiplayer experience, and the player base has simply jettisoned it.  DAMP is sooooooooooooooooooooooo barebones already, they can't afford to have the player base simply refuse to play certain parts of it.

I don't know what they can do, but they need to make these treasure rooms relevant.
