I enjoyed my first playthrough and Bioware have done a lot of things right with this game. Right now, I'm having a hard time starting a new game, so here I am, drawing up a list of things I would have liked to have seen:
Talking to companions anywhere. I know I've seen a few people voice this already, but I'll add one more voice to the mix. Being able to chat with my companions while I'm travelling long distances would have helped to breaks things up. I was surprised the companions had very little to say about the areas they were in. I wish I could ask them about what they know about the surrounding lands, hear an anecdote, etc. It would have added to the immersion.
Companions that care.
- I do wish that someone would come check on me after a particularly hard battle, and I them. Imagine if Sera fell during battle, it'd be nice to have a small chat with her about it, even if its a tiny 10 second bit of dialogue.
- If romancing an Adviser, they should greet you once and awhile when you come back to Skyhold with a conversation, a hug, anything.
- What if Blackwall was still interested in Josephine even after I was? Having a "companion that cares" doesn't necessarily mean they have care about me. It'd be really great to be jealous or to explore different kinds of relationship themes. Maybe if Josephine chooses me, Blackwall is my rival, or maybe Josephine doesn't choose me because of my previous decisions or interactions with her.
Enable cheats. Yes, cheats do destroy gameplay, but a lot of people play with cheats on their second or third playthrough of games, just to get through content faster. For me, this is one of those games that needs cheats to speed up the process. That's why I can't seem to start my second playthrough, because I feel overwhelmed to have to go through all that "grindy" content.
Faster Travel. I'd like to be able to fast travel to any previously discovered marker on my map, even a quest marker. If I've already explored an area, and there's now a "!" or a shard there, I want to just fast travel to it.
More Slots for Talents. Just like most others, I agree that having more slots for my talents in the GUI would have been appreciated.
Specializations. Having them tied in with fetch quests was an interesting way to go about it. I do think its better than just suddenly acquiring a specialization. I honestly thought that when I delivered the goods to the Master, that I would have to go through some training or a battle. I suppose I would have liked to have seen that.
Cinematic Conversations. This one was huge for me. I didn't realize how much it would have affected my enjoyment of the game. I can see this working for random quests, but having conversations with my companions without being able to see them, was disappointing. Especially my love interest.
Mounts. I'm sure I'm not the only one that had a horse get stuck on the smallest of rocks. So, the next game, if it is as large or larger than DA:I, mounts should be taken into the design stage at the beginning. Mounts should be part of the experience. My team members should be on mounts when I am, cinematics should happen on horseback as well, if applicable.
Skyhold. I'm still perplexed about why, after finishing the game, its still in shambles. Maybe Skyhold was never meant to be fixed. I kept visiting my room, expecting something to happen there.. I wasted so much time doing that. Spoiler: virtually nothing happens there. I think I spoke with Josephine 3 times in my room. She doesn't move in, or spend any time in that room other than our sequences. After the sequence, she just leaves me alone on the balcony.
Delegating Work. I loved the concept of the war table, but I'd like to see it go one step further. I want to delegate the tasks in my Journal. Someone else should find the Druffalo, or the widow's ring, I've got other things to do.
Day/Night Cycles. It would have been cool to see the the different landscapes at night, and to fight different monsters. It would also have been nice to see Skyhold at night.
Thanks for reading.
