I don't mind nuking. Certain things demand to be nuked, be it anything from the list above, pugs or friends that have an unhealthy relationship with the floor or that last nemesis that is trying to reject my advances.  :D

I will say that co-ordinated spawn nuking for credits is pretty lame tbh and I'd rather just play the damn game. I'm not gonna lie, if I think we're going for a fast time, I may spawn nuke once or twice to see how fast we can go, but other than that, nukes are just the game's "oh ****" button.

I agree. Personally, I prefer to only use them for my own rage or for shortening a game that has gone ass-backwards, or any game against geth because they are an annoyance and I want to end them as quickly as possible. People doing it for scorewhore reasons is slightly irritating, but really doesn't affect the game unless they do so on objective waves in a way that compromises me.

Co-ordinated GI+AC5 speedrunning is lame, but if all people are concerned with is credits and that's what they want to do, I don't mind it as long as they keep to private lobbies.

Heh. For someone that can't enjoy the game unless you gimp yourself, why do you even bother playing any more? There must be something out there that can fill that need to be so awesome and still use all the goodies the game has to offer.

You're seriously asking me this question...

All the good reasons for missiles have been covered here. Multiple Primes, multiple Phantoms, etc

To re-iterate a couple points, on PS3, you missile double Praetorians. All waves which begin this way will be missiled.

Vs all non-Collector opponents, I always target the trash. Vs Collectors I place a much higher priority on the Crabs to try and kill them before they use their lazors of PS3 stasis. If one survives to use this power, I will deliberately take hard cover and point my camera view away from the lazors (no idea if this helps prevent stasis, but it makes me feel better, and the freezes do tend to happen with the highest frequency while the lazors are on your screen)

The best use for missiles is target switching, although I do confess if I catch an entire complete spawn still together the little devil on my shoulder takes over and, killstreak.

Primes should always be rocketed.

So should every Geth at the end of the wave because they're a survivor and they're a goddamn Geth.

May your compartments always be armored when the enemy is those goddamn robots.

Probably half of my total missile usage is done saving pugs from being sync killed. I don't see how not using missiles would help here except for troll purposes.

I've said it many times before and I'll say it again. I think this game would be much better if there was no Cobras missile launcher.

I'm with the wish-there-were-no-missiles camp. A full team of moderately experienced players has 24-36 missiles and there's no question that using all or even just most of them effectively will make a joke (speedrun) out of any match. It would be much better if only one could be used per game and/or if they were a lot more precious, like, say, level IV consumables or respec-cards. But I wouldn't miss them if they were gone completely, and I'm sure people posting here would have no problems whatsoever adjusting to it. The exception might be platinum-soloers who wouldn't be thrilled with the prospect of much longer runs, but that's about it.

I might nuke a late-wave spawn or a double-boss on platinum, especially if with inexperienced teammates. Rarely on gold, and I don't much approve of others doing it either. Not a show-stopper, but definitely eye-rolling material. I'll also very rarely nuke a target, even on platinum, but I recognize switching as a valid reason to use a missile. One missile. What I often see, however, even when playing with BSNers, is nuking all targets, regardless of what they are and if they've been successfully switched after the first rocket. That's just meh.

I sorta dig rage-nuking, it's funny to see, but not my thing, and not really a "serious" use-case.

One "serious" use-case is preventing sync-kills. That I always try to do.

tldr: My missiles mostly gather dust together with explosive rounds.

Got a question for people who care to finish games faster (and use nukes to that effect):

Why? What's the rush? If you enjoy the game, why so eager to end it? I'm not talking solos, which may last an hour or more; in a team, you might win or lose something like 5 minutes in a 20-25 minute match. How does that make any difference?

20-25 min matches is too long for my taste. i aim for 15-17min matches.  i dont spawn nuke tho.

It can add quite a bit more than 5 mins if you have to clutch multiple late waves with a lower DPS setup. I don't enjoy backpedaling and plinking at dual banshees/ primes with a goddamn Locust, so if I know the pugs are weak then I nuke some late waves.....

assuming I still have any from all the rage missiles....which I don't

I'm not familiar with the mechanics of target switching. So you're saying if you don't successfully switch targets on the first target, there's no way to switch targets on any subsequent targets?

I consider myself a veteran now and I still cherish all 6 missiles (and all consumables for that matter) every match.  They are for emergencies, yes, but I don't mind using one or two to nuke a spawn on waves 7-9, other than that, they get saved for when they are NEEDED.  Plus, it's more fun to kill things with skill instead of basically using the BFG9000.

So no one has ever missed firing a rocket at a Crab and missed? They are so huge, how does a rocket go between their legs?

Bioware's counter space magic. Which is the exact same force that causes direct hits to be survived with one armor bar or the missile to zoom over their heads in the dagger long corridor.

You still can; if the target to be switched to is killed at the same moment the main target is killed (I.e. platinum reapers wave 6: switching from Atlas to ravegers or guardian)

I asked that in the most recent melee-Juggernauts-ruin-the-game thread.

Apparently the answer is (painfully) obvious to everyone except thee and me.

Yeah... I get it that many of you have a taste for quick games, I just don't get the appeal. A game may seem long or tedious regardless of the actual duration if there's something annoying about it, be it lag or a teammate or my own performance. But short games can be just as annoying. Shrug.

Sure. But for all intents and purposes, that's soloing, which is an entirely different beast. What I had in mind were them 'good games' with relatively competent teammates, not situations where one person carries the whole team.

Apparently the answer is (painfully) obvious to everyone except thee and me.

Yes, and it seems the mystery is there to stay.

Yep, the community is still pretty split up about this issue just like before. Nothings changed.

Just going to make some replies and be done with this topic.

Yeah, one of the reason I debated on bringing Armoured Compartments a few days back was for the exact same reason. It was usually on my max cooldown passive Volus Merc when I only brought a Lancer X with Extended Mag & Stability Mod + only Armour Ammo 3 (no AR Amp. Still great mook headshot dps, which is my focus, but no boss melter on Gold). So that when the team does by some rare chance wipe and I'm left with long wave budget and double Banshee's, I could just missile away everyone out of my backpack already and still have missiles to save the pugs for a few more matches or if last objective gets real messy. (Did this once, and boy did it feel good to clutch a wave Rocket style, especially since double Banshee's were along for the ride)

In fact I think that Rusty match where he complained about my missile use where mostly used to save pugs dieing underneath possessed Praetorians (recall that scenario twice and both in the center of Ghost. Pugs don't like to leave where all the action is in Collector matches. And Collectors punish this issue with style. Why pug Collector matches always require the most rockets otherwise they get left for bleeding out). I usually don't hesitate to waste missiles to save pugs, unless the pug upsets me some how, since I never want anyone out of the action (especially playing Volus Merc, where I want all the decoys I can dump agro on as I can ;)).

Going missile happy on extraction wave LZ pug camping also is the only way to be able to camp LZ with some pugs too (no missiles means no LZ camping for me if the pugs are weak in dps). I don't mind this because I always enjoy trying to camp LZ with all manner of pugs and see how long we can hold out without needing a missile. But during the last few seconds if I suspect pugs might go down, I'll fire them anyway. May look like epeen scoring, but when I play for score, I always don't count the score after extraction wave because that's usually the only time pugs use rockets anyway. And rockets and epeen never mix. At least in my opinion, as even one rocket during a match makes score obsolete to me.

Oh, and yesterday I had to clutch a wave as Volus Merc in a long double Banshee wave where I decided to save missiles in case we got wave 10 Jade devices. I eventually made a wrong dance move into a Banshee hug, like usual (why I hate them. Even with surround sound headset, they still to unpredictable for sync-kills due to their teleports). Armoured Compartments would of saved the day on my stingy use of them. So maybe I shouldn't fully rule Armoured Compartments when pugging with certain pugs yet & just practice smarter missile use (which is don't use 'em unless it's to save the day). I didn't mind that I didn't successfully clutch, max manifest & always loaded in with all flavours of consumables, but I feel for the pugs when they don't get payday sadly too... so yes, quite the conflict.

Rage Rocking, sadly, will never vanish. And I can't blame folks for this one. For me it's usually Banshee's. Always Banshee's.

20-25 min matches is too long for my taste. i aim for 15-17min matches.  i dont spawn nuke tho.

To me, around 30 min team matches are still the best Gold pug matches to be in. Under 20 min matches are a blur, thus wiped from memory. So obviously no fan of very fast matches & too much dps when pugging Gold. And a well placed rocket is ultimate in dps & speeding matches up.

The only time I want speed is when leveling up promoted characters. All my rules and standards go out the window during this process. As playing with low level kits is a total bore to me. And sadly, I have to do another promotion to respec the Volus Merc again. :(

I've said it many times before and I'll say it again. I think this game would be much better if there was no Cobras missile launcher.

One thing is for certain. It would really change the way this game is played.

The only down side is pugs not ready for Gold yet being more scared to enter Gold. And my ME3mp Gold pugging career is dependant on these pugs.

I'm also thinking when playing with BSNers from now on, to force them to join me in pre-wave one rocket fireworks.
