As his LinkedIn confirms, John Dombrow has returned to BioWare and is working on the next Mass Effect as a Senior Writer. This is seriously the best news I've heard yet about the next game. Without question, he wrote the very best parts of Mass Effect 3.

I'm glad he's back too. I think Tuchanka is the best, but also think he had some misses too (Thessia). Maybe the latter was due to rewrites/time constraints.

I thought Thessia was fine up until the confrontation with the Illusive Man. I believe Mac Walters had a hand in that.

Do you have a link to all that he's written?  Also, I thought Patrick Weekes wrote Tunchunka in ME3.

Ignore me.  :P

Patrick Weekes was lead writer for the Rannoch arc, I believe.

I didn't think Thessia was that bad. The only thing that really irked me was the poor setup of the unavoidable defeat.

I just looked at his wiki.  He wrote Rannoch, and it looks like he wrote part of Tunchunka.  Probably Mordin's stuff, since I know he created the character.

Oh come on!  Didn't you love a scripted boss battle with some of the most obvious plot armor in video games?

I don't mind losing, it's how I lost Thessia that irked me. <insert many NSFW words about Kai Leng here>

Heh, yeah. I find it hard to believe that a more plausible scenario couldn't be used to make Shepard lose that battle.

I would've just been happy enough with Shepard's response afterwards being my choice.

I also would've liked being more sympathetic to Joker after he mentions Tiptree.....and his sister, who was killed by that Asari.

Thessia was crap. Fortunately Javik makes the mission bearable

All Kai Leng had to do was have the gunship fire at the supports avoiding the fight with Shepard

Didn't he have a lot to do with the Leviathan DLC as well? I thought that was one of the best DLCs Bioware had done.

Anyway, great news.

This, and I would have preferred if the end of the mission involved no combat, and instead the gunship just starts attacking the temple, thereby avoiding the ridiculous fight with him in the open just spamming his immunity.

He was also involved with Overlord, which I thought was great as well.   :D

Had a big hand in Citadel's mission too, I believe. Although I prefer the companion stuff more.

As far as Thessia goes...I thought the mission was good (although short) and that Bioware had the right idea in setting up Shepard for a defeat. The only element I found disappointing was the lame boss fight with Leng.

I think it's just a product of rewrites. The original idea for Leng sounded much better to me. Leng was supposed to act like some nobody alliance (or council?) rep and played on the VS' paranoia of Shepard.

But they recycled the sleeper agent thing with Brooks, and she ended up being the better Cerberus villain.

Brooks was an excellent villain and very well done.

She was.

I'm just amused at the thought of Leng acting like some geek, egging Ashley on. It could've worked. :D

I would have actually just preferred to get there late, as super plot armor guy was leaving with the data.

Mac's comic continuity sucks, yes, but let's face it. Nearly all of ME3's writing botches were because of the rewrite. The rest were because of inconsistent writing (like Reaper Biyatch Legion and his pinnochigeth) because of roster changes.

 Great news!

And Thessia was garbage, but next to the rest of his body-of-work, that miss can be forgiven.

What is the point of having a bunch of combat with a plot armor guy who can kill you, forcing you to reload and fight again until you get to the cut scene where he flees? Those are the most annoying fights. Just make it a full cut scene FFS. Actually remove the cut scene stupidity and just have Kai Lame leaving with the data, but they needed Space Jesus to activate it. The whole thing was stupid. Shepard should have just blown away Kai Lame at first sighting.

And that. Shepard's behavior in that scene should have been part of the dialogue wheel rather than a fixed cutscene thing.

Given the option, my Shepard would've been a pretty big jerk to the asari councilor, and wouldn't apologize for jack.
