bae = acronym for "before anything else". Also a shortened variant of babe. Can also be platonic/non-romantic - referring to your bff, your most trusted friend, the one you always turn to, your best mate, etc. Honestly, language constantly evolves and its slang is the most vosariable and interesting part of that evolution. If you're going to take issue with 'bae' then at least be similarly repulsed by the term 'bro'.

now that's outta the way:

ME1: Wrex. Tali and Garrus competed for second position because I needed a tech expert (not that I complained, they both have become solid favourites).

ME2: There were tonnes of characters so I rotated a lot, but when it came to the last half of the game and my final squad, Garrus and Tali were the ones I took into hell and back.

ME3: Garrus went on basically every damn mission since recruitment.

To get the achievement I took everyone.
Other than that it depends on the mission; but mostly it was in between Ashley, Kaidan, Garrus.
Though I hear Wrex has some pretty good dialogues that I couldn't catch last time. Next time he will be coming everywhere with me.

I don't remember for ME2.
For ME3 I take everyone to different missions.

I try to use all squad mates, but I have favourites that come with me for I say, 60% of missions.  :D

ME1 - Wrex and Garrus
ME2 - Thane and Legion (Legion would come with me a lot more if I got him earlier. Otherwise, I'd say Garrus)

ME3 - Javik and EDI

my loves <3

So far, my playthroughs have been as a Sentinel (doing an infiltrator one now), so I found that I could pretty much take whoever I wanted.

For ME1 though, I used Kaidan, Tali, and Wrex a lot. With Barrier, Electronics, and good armour, Kaidan and I were both all around casters who could take a beating. It was hilarious on the Citadel run when we both alternated Lift and Throw to send Geth Juggernauts and Destroyers into space. Wrex could tank damage and dish it back out, so he was great for drawing aggro. Tali was no slouch either with her shields and High Explosive X Spectre Gear shotgun (kinda hate how she got squishier in later games) and her tech powers were an added bonus. And Shep and Tali hooked up in ME2. <3

Ash could sub for Wrex, until she got nuked. I find that Garrus is a bit of a glass cannon, and his tech skills were redundant to me. Liara was good too, but not as versatile as Kaidan, and you didn't have to spec into First Aid to get Electronics and Barrier maxed for him.

In ME Kaidan because 1) An extra set of biotic abilities makes up for the long cooldowns  2) His tech abilities were pretty much necessary for looting plus useful against the Geth.

2nd fave squadmate would be Liara because you can never have too many biotics in a team! :D

Thinking about it in a sensible way, Kaiden, Wrex or Garrus should be with you a lot, simply because they have a wider range of talents to help you in different situations.

But Liara goes everywhere with me, in ME 1 & 3. Her Singularity is a thing of beauty and she was my first and favourite romance :-)

ME1 - Kaidan/Garrus or Wrex/Garrus if Kaidan is dead.

ME2 - Miranda/Garrus (probably my favourite combo in the whole series. Used them all the time in the Citadel DLC's Armax Arsenal Arena)

ME3 - Kaidan/Garrus again or Javik/Garrus if Kaidan is dead.

Kaidan is my femshep's romance. Miranda is my maleshep's LI, and I also consider her to by my femshep's best friend. Garrus is just awesome.

So, I suppose there is some favouritism there.

As I said in my other post depends on what I'm playing.  Certainly if I'm playing a biotic then my go to team tends to be Garrus and Tali mostly because of her tech abilties and Garrus skill as a sniper. If I'm playing as soldier then I tend to lean towards one of my biotic friends for one and a tech one for the other. In ME3 that's usually Liara that fills that role. In ME2 it's usually one of the bitchy pair Miranda or Jack but I do occasionally use Thane in that role as well but you do have a pretty wide choice biotic wise in ME2. Generally from a soldier role I tend to pick Garrus orZaeed in ME2 and Vega in ME3

In every trilogy run I chose a favorite companion, preferably if he/she is the romantic partner.

Garrus and Tali are my go to squad mates, I only ever switch it up when I need to bring someone on a particular mission.  Garrus is the best though :)

First game is always Kaidan & Ashley until Virmire (but Ash is usually benched in favor of Liara for Noveria), then Kaidan with either Tali or Garrus for the remainder of the game.  Second varies a lot as I usually swap out squaddies for every mission, though I do seem to take Garrus most often. Third game is Kaidan with Tali or Garrus again and before he comes back, it's usually Garrus & James.

Seems like Kaidan and Garrus work best with the way I usually play.  Doesn't hurt they're both awesome! :D

Usually Garrus and Wrex or Garrus and Kaidan. Or Garrus and Tali. Mainly, just Garrus.

It was always Garrus. I could grow to enjoy him more since he was in all of the games, and he was obtainable early on in all of them. My most recent playthrough though, I've grown to take Kaidan with me most of the time. Partially because I'm romancing him, and partially because maxing him as a decryption master/medic is proving extremely useful. Garrus could decrypt, but if I recall correctly, he can't bring much for healing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I could swear Kaidan brings more in one of those aspects. Plus I can't level any first aid, I'm too busy maxing Warp for the sweet damage-over-time.

I am currently playing ME1 for the first time (actually doing a playthrough of it) and up to this point (finished Noveria and Feros + all the side quests) I consider Wrex to be the "must have" in my squad, because he is almost indestructible. :))

As for my 2nd choice I usually take Tali or Kaidan for support purposes and decryption.

I play as a Vanguard myself.

Kaidan has Medicine, which gives you Neural Shock and can reduce the cooldown on medi-gel, if you invest in it.

Garrus's Electronics requires First Aid 7, which I always thought was a little odd, except maybe purely for balance.

****

My squad will probably still mostly stay Garrus and Liara, although it is largely Tali - Liara early given that Tali can unlock all "crates" as soon as you leave the Citadel and it takes a while for whoever else to be able to cover it with relatively normal talent progressions.

It depends on the mission and Shep's class.

I always want someone on the squad who can decrypt and hack terminals.
If Shep is squishy (adept, engineer) I like to have a meatshield (Wrex, Ashley).
For exploration or mako-heavy missions, I like to have someone who can use a sniper rifle (Ashley, Garrus).
Techies are handy for AI-heavy (geth, Luna) missions (Tali, Garrus, Kaidan).

So I tend to switch around a lot.
