I haven't excluded AIU and TGI,

Ah, obviously my bad. In that case here my suggestion: use AIU and TGI.

Is Typhoon TGI a valid thing? Harrier is great, but ammo shortage so severe...

Yes, very valid. Any good assault rifle shines on the TGI actually.

If you want to get good at playing Platinum, play Platinum.

It doesn't matter what character you use, although I do recommend you pick one and stick with it for a while.

You need to learn Platinum wave composition.

Enemy behavior.

Spawn locations.

RHA locations you can retreat to when the enemies push you.

Device / Hack / Escort locations. (So you can activate them ASAP, often before enemies arrive.)

Basically you need to play Platinum over and over and over until it becomes easy.

You know how some of us like to brag about using the Randomizer to get goofy character / weapon combinations and then we play on Platinum anyway and often succeed? That's because we've played a sh*tload of Platinum.

You don't need to e-peen it up that much to start with. Pick your best character -- as powerful or 'OP' as you want. Play it over and over. Heck, play the same map -- farm Giant vs. Reapers (a Platinum classic) with a Juggernaut (ideally played by someone else) if you want to.

I probably played 100 matches on that setup (Giant vs. Reapers) as the Human Sentinel, just learning the Platinum ropes. After that I started to branch out to U/U/P, still as the Human Sentinel. Then I started using different characters. Along the way I made some friends to carry me enjoy the game with.

TL;DR: play a lot of Platinum. That's how you get better at it.

Using the Reegar AIU and Harrier TGI as your definition of great then you're not going to get many kits that are going to hit that level of DPS and that level of easy mode, especially since you think the Geth Trooper is a bad class. There are a few characters that can top the killing power of those kits but not many are going to be on the level of easy. Bat Vanguard, Kroguard, with a Reegar are pretty tough and can put out a lot of damage with survivability, kits like the GI with a top tier weapon IE Hurricane, Talon, etc or Drell Infiltrator will surpass the damage of most of the aforementioned kits BUT they are a little more skill intensive to stay alive with.

I've started PUGging Plat. Naturally, my best kits are Reegar AIU and Harrier TGI. But they get boring very fast. Also, the AIU's lack of  long-range damage capability is annoying so I'm pretty much limited to TGI. And Harrier's requirement to be hugging the ammo box 90% of the time is a pain. I tried PPR TGI, but it doesn't work. But back on topic: what would you call the most viable Platinum kits that don't require any special skills?

You could argue that this is a silly question because no one knows what kits I play best better than me. But the thing is that there are LOTS of characters I enjoy on Gold, but am simply afraid to try on Plat because they're either very squishy or may not be powerful enough for Plat (or both). Examples of the former category are Asari Justicar, Huntress, Fury, Valkyrie. The latter - ADAS Quarksman "The Geth Buster" (only good vs. Geth while Platinum features all the factions at once), HSol (not enough ammo for Harrier, probably not enough damage with any other weapon), Flamer Vorcha, N7 Shadow, shotgun Cabal Vanguard.

So, what characters are you most comfortable with on Platinum?

P. S. I'd prefer builds that don't feature Claymore (don't like it), Venom and Talon (don't have those).

Use lancer with TGI, it's nice and simple. Lacks a bit of harriers power but no need for ammo boxes. Seems you have it at level 2, I have no idea how much it has ammo capacity, but put on extended clip and give it a try. And more ammo for rest of the team to make loads of damage :)

Ps. You can add me as a friend, taffel80 @ origin, and we can go suck on plat together :) I'm at GMT +2, it it helps.

Not a bad idea! Lancer II is good enough for Justicar, I can't call the clip too short. I might even take 3 points in Overload on TGI so that I have something to cast while its' refilling.

If i remember correctly lancer at level X has 93 bullets with extended clip, so you can refer yours to that. I have 6 points in overload, rips phantoms shields on gold, not on plat though, but helps anyway :) I think the cyclonics IV compensates nicely for the lack of shields with leaving fitness at 3 since I rarely die even in plat.

So does any infiltrator. But taking a weapon that your cloak doesn't add bonus damage to makes it sub-par. Or equipping low-DPS weapon when there is a high DPS alternative.

I think you're missing my point, which is that Tactical Cloak is quite overpowered even without a level 6 evolution for damage. You should have seen the lulzy "Avenger is OP, nerf the Avenger!"-type threads that were on BSN a few years ago where people would speedrun Gold as Geth Infiltrators even with the crappiest weapons in the game.

Claymoar AIU FTW! Non my most commonly used plat kit, but certainly amongst my highest average kit score. Scored 180,000 after joining on wave 5 last night to lead the pack. I just don't like the way the reegar plays. I like to shoot things further than 5 feet away. So, feel free to kick me. I'd prefer to play with open minded PUGS than narrow minded elitists.

Jeebus on a pogo stick, dude, when you say sh*t like that you give away the fact that you're trolling.

I responded earlier in the thread in the hopes that some people who genuinely wanted Platinum advice would get some.

You go around saying stupid sh*t like, "Durrr, I might use one of my charcter's powerz sometimez, hurr durr"... it's just f*cking annoying.

Batguard with a Venom and Incendiary Ammo is still pretty hilarious.

Stagger EVERYTHING!!!! Then charge and get a fire explosion for what's left.

Well his build did not have any points on overload, so that comment makes sence.

I'm not a fan of the fussy, irritating mechanics and range limitations either.  The DPS is swell...if you're in a situation where you can mow down clustered/lined-up foes -- without being concerned about breaking cloak from within arm's reach.

So I'm not buying the OP's offhand dismissal of any Reegarless AIU as 'subpar'.  I'm quite sure many of the posters here would feel more effective (read: more OP) with a Geth Scanner and slapping on a choke & HVB onto their Raider/Wraith/Claymoar with drill rounds.  In fact I'm sure they'd score just as high using an Eviscerator rather than having to adapt  their gameplay to deal with Reegar BS.

Your concept of trolling is pretty unimaginative.

My build in the start post has 0 points in Overload. Furthermore, if you ever bumped into me in a PUG while I was playing TGI, I never used Overload once - because I didn't even have it. To top it off, I have brought this topic up once or twice on BSN, which caused significant disturbance. Not gonna start it all over. My point - Overload is useless on TGI if you don't use priming ammo. Which I didn't because Harrier works best with AP, IMO.

I did, however, expect a reaction somewhat like what you've expressed. But I don't think I've crossed the line between dropping a remark innocently and trolling :P

In fact I'm sure they'd score just as high using an Eviscerator rather than having to adapt  their gameplay to deal with Reegar BS.

I see your point. But conversely, I'm sure to score higher with Reegar rather than having to adapt my gameplay to Claymore / Raider BS. Esp. Claymore.

Anything with flamer. Why? Because it's fun to see people rage about it. On any level. You're just minding your own buisiness, melting all the things, and after extraction, get booted because everyone else kept dying while your health regenerated more with the more things you melted.
