I'm not sure why you want it to have a shotgun, but I would choose Saber instead.
No particular reason, actually. But there are so many characters I totally don't like having a shotgun on that when I get a kit that can fit a shotgun, I usually go for it.
Saber is a great weapon, but I don't enjoy it much without RoF boost. Although shooting heads reliably will probably offset low rate of fire, and aiming for a head takes time anyway. I suppose Saber GE is pretty good all in all.

I was hosting at least one Plat. game and was still struggling with priming. And yes, I know it synergizes with Network AI 6b, and it's lore-friendly, but... it didn't work as well as I expected. It also sucks that smart choke doesn't work on it, the spread is quite wide.
You must always use shredder mode or hvb on the reegar with inc rounds, and it will melt anything, superfast.
Also, try wraith on the GE, if you don`t get the gps working.

The spread on the GPS is only wide if you're just firing indiscriminately. If you're "locked on" to an enemy (i.e., your reticle is red when you shoot), the spread is very tight. I have no problem hitting small mooks with all 3 pellets from a long way away.
Anyway, I don't know if you're talking about a ridiculous no-Hunter Mode build, in which case you should just play another class, like the Turian Sentinel or Human Engineer. The Wraith is incredible on the GE, and I guess it would probably work well even without Hunter Mode, because it's a great all-around gun. The Piranha is also really good (with Hunter Mode). I like playing a headshot-damage build with the Valkyrie AR, but I don't think that's advisable for Platinum.

Well, they do have some "homing" because if you are "locked" on an enemy when you fire, they will curve to hit them if they aren't strafing really fast. But what I was saying is that when you are "locked" on the enemy, they fire in a tighter spread.
I only have the Valkyrie III, and my headshot build works plenty well on Gold, but you HAVE to use Hunter Mode to get it to work correctly. The Valkyrie fires a 2-round burst, and the 2nd shot of the burst is pretty inaccurate if you don't have an accuracy boost. If your 2nd shot is consistently off, you're not doing much damage. I like it better than the Saber on the GE.
The shotgun you're looking for is called Hunter Mode, and it's (sadly) the best shotgun in the game.

Not sure about that. I think I remember that it does, but it doesn't really matter. Just use another shotgun and see what HM does to it.

I've managed to craft a build I actually can compete for the middle of the scoreboard with on Platinum! I'm starting to like Geth Trooper. It is indeed tanky even with HM. Dunno why it's easier for me to survive with GT now on Plat than a month ago on Gold. Probably because I'm not trying to use flamer.
Funny thing is, I only put Arc Pistol here because I was going for its challenge, but I'm starting to like it, too (tried it and didn't like before). I even switched from AR amp to pistol amp, I prefer Arc Pistol for long range and for killing big bosses that are easy to hit in the head (Brutes, Ravagers, Scions, Praetorians).
The next improvement would be to replace Stronghold Package with AR or Pistol amp equipment. I think the benefit of Stronghold package is almost non-existent. Took it for even lower shield recharge delay.
P. S. Of the [few] map / faction combinations I've played so far, I found London / Collectors to be the easiest. I played a couple preset Reaper games as suggested earlier in this thread, but to hell with Banshees. There's too many of them, they tend to sneak up and hug me, and I can't hit them very well, esp. if there's more than one near me.
The Arc Pistol is generally considered to be one of the best weapons in the entire game, if you can shoot things at range. It is by no means broken like the Reegar is, but it's a phenomenally powerful gun. Try it with warp ammo on Asari Adept. Phantoms become nonexistent.
Found another build hat works surprisingly well on Platinum. It's the skill build I tried on Gold, then switched weapons to PPR and took it to Platinum (Warp -> shoot - repeat until its dead). If I were to only use TSent on Plat, I would adjust the build to this. I've found that I don't ever use Overload with incendiary PPR, just Warp. And I could definitely use those extra shields and 10% damage reduction.

I remember Tempest Geth Trooper, Asari Valkyrie w/ the barrier breaking pistol, Tempest Vorcha Soldier, Tempest Demolisher aren't too bad on Platinum.
