I was wondering how much time is supposed to pass from the beginning of DAI to the end of the main quest where you kill Corypheus. It's not very clear to me. Did it take less than a year to get from Haven to Skyhold and Corypheus?

From how much power you gather and the Inquisition's forces, it looks like it could have even taken years to gather enough of an army and power to eventually go to the temple of Mythal and then kill Corypheus. Or is the inquisition just supposed to have gathered everything super fast through the power of the plot?

I would think it would takes years to build an army, recruit allies and rebuild a keep while traveling around two countries by foot or on horse. But I would guess it didn't take that long in the narrative.

Yeah, from a realistic standpoint, it should take years, but as we know, the narrative usually doesn't follow the same rules so I'd like to know what is the 'canon' in this case.

Looking at the wiki, it says that at 9:41 Dragon all of the events of DAI take place and doesn't mention anything for 9:42 Dragon that has to do with DAI. That means that it only took a year, right?

The writers themselves have said that they haven't made a timeline for it yet too avoid retcons like Alistair and the Stolen Throne mess let me find the source

Remember Dorian's comment when Fiona gives that date during the Mages quest? They had been gone for a year. So it was less than a year when Haven was destroyed and they traveled to Skyhold. I would say roughly 6 months before they defeated him, and possible a year since the Conclave blew up by the end of the game. Cassandra mentions that it's been a long time since it all began too.

Yep, so around a year then sounds about right. Pretty tight but better than it taking a couple of months!

Same with Origins. It took a year to get to the Landsmeet. Wynne mentions it to my Amell. To us players who beat the game within a few days though, it never feels like more than a week. Lol

Origins was supposed to take a year? Huh, I could have sworn it was supposed to have taken less time, what with the Archdemon and all that. But I guess it makes sense.

Wynne tells my Amell that it's been a year since Ostagar and her return to the tower. I was shocked because it didn't fell like that, but if you play the Return to Ostagar DLC, the place is covered in snow and when you were first at Ostagar, a solider mentions it's getting colder.

Part of it is that the seasons don't change, and despite the nebulous travel time all the events seem to be pretty closely related in time to each other. It only really works if you handwave the deep roads as basically taking months.

Hm...maybe it's a year by the time the festivities are over (like literally the end of the game where you talk with everyone and get the credits)?

My guess would be it took a little over a year to complete everything

It's probably close to the end of 9:42 Dragon~

Maybe the upcoming World of Thedas book will reveal how long it took?

I think so. If I recall Wynne mentioned it being a year since Ostagar when you recruit her though. I find it odd since I go there first to save Connor, but maybe for others who do the Magi Quest last would have the time frame connect better. I'm pretty sure by the Landsmeet it's been a year.

Looks like it's pretty inconsistent considering you can go to the Circle first thing. I think I always do it right after Redcliffe and leave Ostagar for last.

Edit: I meant Orzammar, just noticed the mistake, hah!

Yeah that's the problem. All we know is a year has passed, but when is up to the player. So I use the Mage's quest in DAI to set up my own time frame, and guess that by the end of the game it's been a year. Unlike DAO, DAI doesn't have the option of doing the main quests in a different order.

Josephine mentions it being a few months since meeting you. I would guess it was almost a year between start and finish.
