So I reloaded an old save to replay my favorite DA:I quest, Champions of the Just, and look who I finally noticed showing up as the quest begins.
I'm not the first to be aware of Cole's first true appearance in this quest, but I've found almost nothing regarding it on the internet so I thought I'd share. Anyone else catch it? I apologize if this already common knowledge on the boards.
I think you can also see him in the courtyard when you agree to do the flag ritual
I don't think it's supposed to be an Easter egg, it's just a cool detail that anyone that's not looking for it will probably miss. Also, before you talk to that templar and go inside for those tests, you can see Cole standing on top of a wooden structure. He looked like he was missing his hair and that a crow nearby him was surrounded with green mist for me at least. I took a picture.

I noticed it after it was posted in another thread. And it's not during the flag ritual, it's before you talk to Ser Barris you can see him. He's on the roof with a glowing green bird above him. That's why your Inquisitor can mention seeing him before when they meet.
A follow-up question then for those who already knew. Did you discover it on your own like me or learn about it online? It reminds me of the Invisible Gorilla psychology experiment. You're so focused on the Herald that everything else becomes largely background. I only noticed this time around because I was looking for Vivienne among my companions.

That reminds me! If you side with the Templars, we all know he joins in the convo with Cass about Varric's book, but just before the cut scene begins, when you click on Cass, he pops up behind her!

Lol I ended up comforting HIM after the Solas final romance scene. Bad timing.
I actually really love that it took people this long to notice him (me included).
It really plays into the whole "I've always been there, but people rarely notice" thing that Cole always says.

As I understand it, easter eggs in this context usually refers to a hidden reference, usually to another work of fiction. Cole showing up before his introduction in the nightmare is as much of an easter egg as Tyler Durden showing up in flashes before the conversation on the airplane in Fight Club. More like actual foreshadowing (if very subtle) than an easter egg.

Cole showing up before his introduction in the nightmare is as much of an easter egg as Tyler Durden showing up in flashes before the conversation on the airplane in Fight Club. More like actual foreshadowing (if very subtle) than an easter egg.
He said he went there to get help, so it's not an easter egg. He was simply there at the same time as us, and later we are given the option of telling him we've seen him before, meaning he was meant to be noticed and leave us wondering who the strange boy in the even stranger hat was, since he looked horribly out of place among armor and petticoats. The glowing bird though... that is an omen if I ever saw one!

Yeah I think it's supposed to be Envy, but it's still damn creepy! Lol
It could have been an easter egg if say you saw someone from Mass Effect walking in the crowd, but because of the option to say you saw Cole, I think it was more of a "if you spot him good for you, if not... surprise!" I have to admit, after I realized he was there, I kept watching in the background right up to the moment with Envy to see if Cole showed up anywhere else. LOL
