Hi. My name is Shadow. And my problem is PBGD (or "Post Bioware Game Deppression). I started playing Inquisition on day one, five months ago and have recently finished my seventh playthrough (third with my main). And now that it's "over" (at least until the next DLC comes out), I'm feeling this really weird funk. Almost a depressive state of mind that has made it hard to pick up any other game.

And I know exactly why this is. It's because Bioware crafts the kind of story and characters that you care about so much that it almost physically hurts when you think its over. Its the exact same feeling I got when I finished the seventh Harry Potter book for the first time, or the third Lord of the Rings film. I got so invested that it was almost like I had just lost someone dear to me.

It happened at the end of the Citadel DLC, it happened at the end of Kotor 2, and it's happened again. I've already tried getting into the Baldur's Gate series while we all wait for the next content drop, but at the time I just couldn't. I was still too stuck in the DA mythos and its people. So I went back for my seventh run on Nightmare.

This is not to say I won't recover, eventually at least. And I know (now) that neither the DA nor ME franchises are over. It's just that sense of finality that is getting to me. These games make me cry, and laugh, and spit (at the characters I want to yell at... VIV and SERA), and I don't want them to end.

Therefore, I have a plan to play through my canon ME games in a row and do the same for DA once that's done. I hope that'll help me pull myself back up and keep me occupied while ME4 is being worked on. And maybe the rest of my Bioware library as well (I still haven't finished the storyline of my main in SWTOR).

Now I want to hear from you all. Is this a phenomenon that you have experienced? Are you going through it now? What have you done/or what are you doing to offset this effect? Lets give each other some lift!

Shadow Quickpaw; Joseph Shepard, Revan, Exile, Spirit Monk, Warden Cousland, Chuckles Hawke, and Inquisitor Lavellan. Soon to be Bhaalspawn, the Hero of Neverwinter, and Barsen'Thor.

I started playing Jade Empire and other older Bioware games.

There's other games I enjoy as well. MMO's like Aion or Stars Wars the Old Republic.

I felt something similar the first time I finished DAO.  I wished that I could go back in time and experience it for the first time all over again - it was my first rpg experience, and it was so magical and fun.  When I realized that ME was by the same developer, I finally gave it a try.  Bioware, I think you have ruined me for all other games lol

Though I did enjoy the Witcher 2, and plan on getting 3....oh and I fully intend to play Pillars of Eternity...but other than that - ruined, I tell you!

Fanfiction is like the pleasant afterglow.  Unless it's bad fanfiction, in which case it's like dousing yourself in fiery ants.

The whole idea of Fan fiction both fascinates me seeing what people can do...and horrifies me seeing what is in the minds of other people.

Just listen to this while you write your DA:I fanfiction...

Then see if the ending resembles the ending of Titus Andronicus.
*Sigh* Fun times. =]

Try Jade Empire - it's a good game. Or you could really go back in time and play Balder's Gate on the PC.  Or, just buy the soundtrack to the game, put it on your device and take a nice walk. Write fan-fic  or DA songs and poetry. Create pictures if you have that gift. It's all good.

And if it's teenage porn garbage; reading the first paragraph is like dousing yourself in petrol, and setting yourself alight.

I know the feeling and I felt it with Harry Potter, ME, and every DA game too... :(

I bury myself in lore and while I wait for the next installment.

Television and other games help :D

Really hoping someone will upload a copy of the exclusive Thedas book they're releasing this month...

I feel it sometimes.. knowing it will be a maybe a year or so until another DLC/novel. On top of the fact it will be a quarter of a decade until the next installment. Considering people put in as much time into the DA franchise as it would to get BA degree, it holds just as much valuable memories.
