Silly question tbh, I think everyone wants to be free.

I'd want to be Tevinter nobility. If that's not an option, I'd like to live in a Circle where templars are reasonable - I think Vivienne mentioned that in Montsimmard, mages where allowed to live in the city among the common folk after they passed their Harrowing.

I would want to go to Hogw...err I mean College of enchanters, or even better, be a first to a dalish clan. Does that count as wanting to be free?
On a more serious note, I find it amusing that while in RL I lean towards pro-government views, in DA I'm 100% pro mage freedom, and 100% elf supporter, mainly because this are severely mistreated groups because of an inborn characteristic, which i find intolerable/inexcusable

I would be a free, wealthy and powerful Magister. Whom men fear and women adore.

The messed up thing about Thedas is that freedom and education do not go together for mages. The idea that people have to choose between the two just because they can wield magic is ridiculous.
Of course I want to be free. But I want to be educated, learn my skills to their maximum potential, and I'm not interested living in Tevinter. Mage Hawke's situation is ideal. Living as an apostate is stressful and potentially dangerous, but if you have a family to support you and teach you like Hawke did, then the stress is a small price to pay.

Define "freedom".
Would I be escaping from the Circle for no other purpose than running through fields, sleeping in hovels and feeling rain on my skin like Anders?
No.
Would I seek to make myself and the Circle ridiculously wealthy and important and vital like Vivienne?
Yes.

Yes I do think a definition is in order. If you define freedom as wanting the Circle to be independent from the Chantry and the Templars, then yes I would. If you define it as being a Tevinter magister than I still would but that would be wrong.

Tevinter Circle is independent, it's basically just a prestigious school.

Freedom would be pointless. Who would teach me to control spells and resist demon possession while I'm free? So long as I could ocasionally leave the circle, that would be enough.
But freedom from the chantry and the templars? Absolutely.

the real question is if you are not a mage , do you want them to be free , will you accept their power ? the things they do ?
stop thinking like you will be the exception , the one who born as a mage or a superhero with superpower , think like a simple person ,
speak to sera more often to understand simple people , the MAJORITY of people , the normal people that have no super power , or super authority
than you will understand ,

You know, we live in a world where there are people that could fire nukes any moment if they wanted to, and the common people have absolute zero say in the matter. As a common man - Mages will find a way to be dangerous, let things take their natural order and have them take a place in society that is meant for them.

Assuming that the common folk in Thedas are andrastians who work on the fields in the the week and go to the chantry sing the chant every sunday (or whenever they've got masses), they yeah, I think I'd be afraid of mages since my only knowledge about the world would be what I've heard from the sisters in the chantry and from the fellows in the tavern.
If you're nobility, a templar or a chantry sister/brother, then probably you've got more insight into this whole mage business and might have a different viewpoint about them. Of course it greatly differs by what you've seen of mages. If you see that templars let them be and just keep watch, then you might think "Hey, these people are not so bad, it's not like they're making a blood sacrafice and summoning demons hourly". In other cases, you might think that they're kept on a short leash for a reason, like the mages are too vocal for leaving the chantry or some of them even try to revolt once.

I wouldn't mind being a free mage, but I also wouldn't necessarily mind living in Circle either.

No. Myself and all mages should be made tranquil and must serve the chantry like willing slaves, my dear.
