Seriously, I have been trying to get my hands on a Sturdy Battlemage Mail for a week now and no matter how many times I try to farm in that cradle place, I have had 0 luck. Seriously, getting a single schematic shouldn't be this hard.
In the next game, can schematics not be bloody randomised loot.

Bloody RNG. Next game, you'll find it in the first chest inside the Still Ruins.
That happened to me last game. I had every single superior battlemaster variant and every single superior prowler variant, but the only battlemage armor I had was the one from the Hissing Wastes merchant. I was playing a mage.
I sometimes wonder if your class-specific items are deleted from the table on purpose.

Loot in the SP campaign should not be RNG, period. Maybe a bit difficult in the context of the open-world-fad, but even then it could be done by carefully working on quest rewards. Might even alleviate some of the concerns of the 'we need level scaling' crowd because at least the loot would not be useless.
Actually, I'm fine with RNG loot, as long as it's handled like say, Icewind Dale. If you open a chest that's got an item of a particular quality level, it will ALWAYS have an item of that quality, even if it's not the same one. Bad RNG is when you have a chance of opening a chest and getting a bonanza, and opening the same chest and getting five old coins and some old trash.
Also, can factions please have their own damned schematics? Aside from the Orlesians (which you can go buy Orlesian armor schematics in Val Royeaux) nobody has their own stuff. The Warden schematics are with the Dalish, the Templar stuff is stuck in the middle of nowhere, and the Inquisitor's armor is scattered in two places halfway across the map.
DAI proudly continues DA2's tradition of loot placement making no sense whatsoever, and somehow being worse about it.

I was hoping that Dagna would be the source and she would look over our gear and given funds and a day or so have new schematics.

I want to throttle that merchant at Suledin Keep. "I can probably get anything you wan't," my arse!
Seriously, why can't we source this stuff? Ser Morris the Quartermaster sits in that room all day arguing with the messengers and filing his nails. Why can't he track down a set of armor plans?

But they should have contingencies for acquiring some of the rarer ones (either letting you purchase them outright, or perhaps something from the war table, or via some other means) so that it isn't entirely up to random chance. I do agree with that.

I'd settle for a war table operation to find schematics if there was no other solution. I've completed 3 playthroughs so far, each over 100 hrs, plus between an hr and 30 hrs on several other playthroughs and it's frankly demoralizing when I find a schematic and my response is "Oh, great, this would be brilliant, for my previous playthrough."
Admittedly if there was a repeatable operation to find schematics I'd probably spend a great deal of time changing my system clock, so a better solution would be preferable.

I think there should be "localized", for lack of a better word, RNG schematics/loot. What I mean is you shouldn't find qunari vitaar or dwarven armor in Unadin Grotto

Indeed. Or at the very least. Make them permanent drops. Because there are times when an chest would have an schematic, then in another playthrough, the same chest would have none.

RNG is the devil. I have never gotten Tier 3 mage arms or leggins outside of what you can buy via drops. I've basically given up on getting them.
As someone who always gives my PC and companion a complete armor set, this is another issue. I don't have OCD but it is really bugging me that I can't find or buy any coat arms and legs.
I hope the Black Emporium or the next DLC fixes this.

Schematics could be good quest rewards. Especially from some of the more dry, tedious quests. At least then we'd get something for our efforts.

Maker, this. Things like breaking into the sealed ancient dwarven vault in Valamaar only to find a Qunari Sword and common human armor was a tad bit annoying. At least DAO more-or-less made sense with this sort of thing. The only armor that wasn't contained where it should be was the Ancient Elven Armor, and that's easily explained by people carrying off items from the fall of the elven lands.

To be fair, Valamar was a trading outpost, and its current occupants are smugglers. I have an easier time explaining non-dwarven artifacts in Valamar than I do justifying the presence of dwarven artifacts in the Tomb of the Emerald Knights.

An easy fix for future thought would be not to have schematics as RNG at all. Have them a solid drop or loot in a specific event or setting, if not make them tied to the "research" portion of the game.
Kill a Warden. Research literally researches the remains, gear and skills. Kill enough and your researcher can recreate a schematic. And so on with Templar, Venatori, Avaar, and any subclass or class humanoid. Themed armor schematics would also be nice from your advisors. You get one choice of the three to research you a Royal wear and a Royal Armor. Sort of like the reverse of DA2 with wardrobe reflecting love interest.
This would also give value to the need for resources because you would have a desire and drive to take this into your own hands. Mobs become necessity beyond 5% damage granted to them for their drops. You would now know their secrets and can turn weapon and armor into a null/advantage from their loss. This would also suggest people working for you are doing something besides waiting on a busy Quizzy. More valuable assets, armor or weapons could require all three departments-War Table, Researcher and Dagna if the fear is balance issues.

RNG is one of the most annoyng thing in the game. Only as annoyng as the damn PJs and the male balding on female hairstyles. I've finally found the schematics for the Dalish heavy Armour Yooohooo!!!
...
...
... In my mage Qunari run. Great.
Really. Why is this annoyng thing in the game, and why aren't all the schematics in the various shops? many shops don't even have anything remotely interesting to sell. Why not let us buy from them those terribly hard to find schematics?

I like the RNG, but they really should let us spawn gear with the dev console for people who don't.
I don't mind RNG, KOTOR 2 did it fine because u could still get everything important by the end.
But I've been at least 40 times in that cradle place and spent at least 3 hours. I think I should have got the one I wanted by now. Either let us buy tier 3 schematics or increase the chance of finding them since we still have to waste time finding the materials to make the armor.
It's just a turn off when the only tier 3 armor I have look ugly on me and my companions.

All of this is moot anyway, considering 99% of the loot in this game sucks. I'm playing as a Qunari and there is no and I mean NO incentive whatsoever to explore for loot. What is the bloody point? Qunari have no race specific gear! Get your **** together Bioware and release some DLC for Qunari!
