Agreed, trying to track down schematics is ridiculously tedious. Making us work for them is reasonable, but not with this system.
In the next game, can schematics not be bloody randomised loot.

No more RNG or at least... change it a little so it drops better unique stuff or have a merchant that will sell you the remaining stuff you can't find in chests.

They should just be made to show up at a merchant near the crafting tables, when you reach the level designed for the particular schematic.
As you level up, more schematics would unlock at the merchant, so,
say if you were level 13, then levels 1-13 schematics would be available to be purchased at the merchant.
It would be balanced that way, plus no more missing out on any cool designs.

Another idea would be to introduce 'research' wartable missions. The inquisition has researchers, it would make sense for you to tell them what area they should focus on. The recipes would initially be discovered at random, but obviously the researchers would not discover the same recipe twice (if they did, my inquisition would very quickly find 'more helpful' researchers).
Or tie research with the same model as just explained into those waste-of-space requisition tasks. Complete a requisition, pick a research area, pling! recipe unlocked.

500+ hours i put into this game and I never once got the iconic inquisitor helm shecmatic
Is that even a thing? I've found the Inquisitor hat schematic, but never one for the helm. Just got the actual helm from...

RNG is acceptable for most of the loot, but we must have alternative and reliable methods to receive schematics. Most schematics should unlock gradually in Skyhold stores (or just unlock in the Undercroft, free of charge). Some special schematics could be quest rewards but they should not be random. Special items (including schematics) should always be attainable by completing the same quests. This way items have a stronger narrative connection and players can pick and choose, which quests are worth doing.

Snip
-------
I sometimes wonder if your class-specific items are deleted from the table on purpose.
Interesting thought because I had the same one. I've created variant chars.. mage, archer, tank. I noticed that the same "treasure chests" gives more loot for the other classes than mine..
Example: Playing as a Mage
I find that loot drops or loot from chests are more common for the tank and/or rogue class.
Example: Playing as an Archer (Rogue)
I find that loot drops or loot from chests are more common for mages and/or tanks
Etc.
Personally, it's a game design decision.... more of what you don't need.

Yes there is a schematic for the inquisitor helm(check YouTube and DAIwiki)
The inquisitor helm you get from the dragon sucks compared to crafted helms, and why do we have to kill a dragon to get the inquisitors helm when dragons are optional and BW promoted the hell out of the iconic helm(at least make it a drop in the main quest)

Kickin, thanks! I really had no idea that schematic existed. Just assumed it was intended to be a truly unique item after all this time since I've never stumbled across it. I suspect when/if I find it, I am going to make the most unmanly squee that will rival perhaps only the one I made when I found a helmet of waterbreathing in Skyrim (or was it a ring) once.

The game is so easy. Even highest diffilculty ought to be faceroll on the second playtrough.
So why do people care? Its not a MMO. You don't need to show off with your gear. Mechanics are easy and you're guaranteed to over level most of areas for most part of the game. Pointless to care about stats on gear.

Not having to spend forty hours in the same beige nightmare "armor" coat style because Bioware decided my race didn't really need armor variety, for one.

Lol, I don't give a rats ass about the stats.
Have you seen Solas with a battlemage armor/coat? Freaking ugly so I want Solas to be wearing Battle mage mail to look a bit badass. Problem? I can't find any!
Have you seen Cole with Prowler coat/armor. Dude looks like his got a man skirt, prowler mail is the only one with pants. Problem? I can't find any!
I don't like boob windows or open chest hair (Varric) in my team so I need schamatics for Varric that give the him the nice scarf and I want to get Vivienne the armor that covers her ridiculous boob windows. But I can't do that because all the schmatics I get tend to be the useless ones that I don't bloody need.
Another problem is that I prefer giving the companions a perfect armor set so nothing looks weird or out of place. That leads to problems such as not being able to find battlemaster coat arm and legs so Cassandra armor set feels uncompleted to me.
Also most of the normal armor have stats I don't need so crafted armor is better for my desired choice even if the game is easy and I agree nightmare is a joke but I rather play nightmare with a set up of weapons and armor I like and not have to rely on "Lol, RANDOM!".

Loot in the SP campaign should not be RNG, period. Maybe a bit difficult in the context of the open-world-fad, but even then it could be done by carefully working on quest rewards. Might even alleviate some of the concerns of the 'we need level scaling' crowd because at least the loot would not be useless.
Agreed.

Spoiler
In DLC "Jaws of Hakkon" some unique hat schematics (including the helm) can be purchased from a merchant in Stone-Bear Hold.

Didn't know that, I haven't touched JoH DLC
The schematic should have been purchasable through the main story line(I don't know why it was random before JoH)

Hear, hear. Most of the items were located in places that didn't make sense. What's a unique High Keeper robe doing in an ancient dwarven tomb? Why are Antivan Crow daggers in Elven ruins? Why are Qunari Vitaar scattered as far as the Forbidden Oasis. When did Qunari get that far west?

i'd be okay with randomized loot if there was some kind of "adventure mode" type deal where you can go in and just kill things, you get loot, experience (up to a point) and potentially more recipes

The entire loot system needs to be revamped.
The trash loot IS complete trash and it's a nightmare with that horrendous inventory. It's astounding that they didn't fix that since DA2. They need to either stop throwing worthless junk at the player or remove the inventory limit and balance the prices accordingly.
The unique loot is useless when it's outrageously outclassed by crafted gear, not to mention said crafted gear is amongst the worst looking armors I've ever seen and the RNG farm is like the opposite of fun in a singleplayer game, we're not playing an MMO here.
Crafting is also far too tedious for a singleplayer game, it requires far too much materials and the fade-touched bits are completely out of place, it's something you'd expect to farm in an MMO to min-max for raids and dungeons not in a game you're supposed to complete in 60-100 hours and start from scratch multiple times.

The RNG would be Okish if the schematics could be found without needing it. There are many shops that are only worth to sell stuff. (there are like only four shops who sell armour schematics) that way, who dont want spend money can use the RNG system, the others can simply buy what they want to craft.
#46
Posté 27 avril 2015 - 10:17
A simple solution would be to make ALL schematics purchasable, and just make the tier 3 schematics expensive enough so it will take a while to be able to purchase them.
Farming for a specific schematic that might or might not drop is not my idea of fun. Too much of the MMORPG about it for my liking.
Since this is supposed to be a single player game, I don't get why we have to farm for schematics, or any other crafting materials at all.
Make it purchasable, so that people that don't want to farm can buy it. And people that enjoy farming, can, well, farm for it. Both sides win

On my human rogue, Dima, the very first Iron I looted came with Fade-Touched Iron. I was still on the first mission. RNGesus was kind to me that thirty seconds.
That thirty seconds.

Less RNG I don't care but you do know every DA game including Origins had RNG, right?
In Origins, none of the best items (except maybe Fade Wall Shield) were RNG. Schematics are way better than any armor in the game and I don't want to play DAI like the lottery.

Chevalier armor was almost impossible because of RNG.There was plenty of RNG in Origins.I didn't advocate against less RNG just pointed something people tend to forget. In Origins, none of the best items (except maybe Fade Wall Shield) were RNG.
