An RPG book, to be exact, or at least, a splat book for alien races for a Sci-Fi setting called Myriad Song. Today the kickstarter has gone live, and I am doing my best to drum up promotion for it with the help of a friend of mine and his tabletop company, Sanguine Games.

I basically pitched the idea to my friend and he loved it, so he asked me to write up concepts for him. I was able to create 24 different aliens for the book, with some help from a few friends of mine who I am grateful for their support and help in this too.

Some of them have already made the cut thus far, in fact out of the 24 designs made, twelve of them are guaranteed in the book. The other twelve are up to you though, so the more donations, the better of course.

It's a long Kickstarter, and since it's a supplement book for a tabletop game...to be honest I am not expecting it to set the world on fire, even if it's it's an independent game that has gained a small cult following as time went on, but one can dream, it was a lot of fun to write. If nothing else, that in of itself was a good experience.

You might be wondering what Myriad Song is. It's a dice pool system game, where the more dice you have, the more likely you will succeed at a task or in combat in a nutshell. It has scaling and is very gift heavy, and unlike say D20 systems it is less crunchy than most games I would argue. It's also based on New Wave 80's Sci-Fi, so much of the art and style of the game falls into that design.

For me, it's one of the best sci-fi tabletop games I have ever played, and sci-fi tabletop games are hard to pull off, in my opinion. So I enjoyed it immensely, and to add to the world even further like this has been great.

Here is a link if you want to check it out at least. Hope you guys enjoy the concept art too that has been completed.

*throws a pack of 100 1$ at your face*

I want the inclusion of:

- I being the protagonist

- Harem (1 man, 20 women)

- all Kings being weak, thugs being good and I the only worthy ruler

- Griffin and Baby dragons as pet

- Cousins may marry each other

- BSN characters as my weak enemies or servants

- A lasersword for me (now it's a sci-fi, right?)

- My K7S6 special droid

I'll think about other characters and stuff you must include for this 100$ later.

It is a tabletop game...half of that you can make already.

And we have a version of laser swords and synth robots you can even play as already. Plus inter-dimensional pets and empathic pets.

No money required for those sadly. Thank you though for the $100 :P.

A choose your own adventure book?  I do believe I had a Sonic the Hedgehog one of those - it sucked.

No not one of those, a tabletop RPG book.

Although now that I think of it...it is the same thing, sort of.

I've been interested in getting into pen-and-paper RPGs (I've played some games of Pathfinder) and because of that, I might be partial to donating some money. By the way, do you have any recommendations for any tabletop RPGs? I hear the Call of Cthulhu one is great (and I'm a Lovecraft enthusiast).

Are there romances in these kind of books?  Been too long since I've been caught jacking off whilst reading a book.

Including both the Aliens book as well as the Myriad Song (as well as the entire Sanguin Games library reward option) is something I was going to suggest, but see you thought of that in advance. Well done.

This may be totally ancillary to your book, but do you know if any work has been done to incorporate Myriad Song into Roll20?

Tabletop RPG's are strange, because it really depends on what type of games you are looking for. Are you looking for supernatural type of settings, real world settings, sci-fi, fantasy?

I never played the Call of Cthulhu game, it's not really my style in the end, but from what I hear it is a very good investigative game if you have a really good GM guiding you.

Another sort of game in that vein that is real good is the Dresden Files RPG, or the White Wolf's World of Darkness, which is really good too.

Pathfinder is the best version of d20 open gaming liscence on the market. I like DnD 4th edition personally because of the rule streamlining, and I am very biased to Sanguine Products, including stuff like Myriad Song and Ironclaw.

Another one to check out is Fiasco, which is more of a storytelling game than anything else but really fun if you have the right group for it.

A friend of mine has been trying to code Myriad Song into Roll20.

Because Roll20 is very Pathfinder/DnD heavy by being based on d20 systems, its very slow work but hes getting there. There was a time where we had it working on Maptools for a while, although it was using a framework from Ironclaw.

For the purposes of (what I assume to be) a lack of tabletop RPG experience, think of it less like a book, more like an instruction manual. This book has alien races with details, stats and abilities to use in a session the player creates. While there is background narrative/history for each alien race, there isn't a "story" per se.

You can never be too sure about these things. It's always best to err on the side of caution.

That's the bottom line because Stone Cold said so.

Any chance that if you hit your goal, SanguineGames will allow a PayPal option? I really dislike using my credit card on Kickstarter - last time I did, I had my identity stolen just weeks after.

Ah well, I tried my best :P. IGN is a tough crowd though.

Do I have to? I don't even know what Sayaka Miki is.

I don't think he uses PayPal at all, unfortunately. At the same time, I don't think Kickstarter allows the use of PayPal anymore because of policy changes. If they do that's awesome, but I haven't seen it in a while.

Sorry Jimmy :/

We are already doing pretty well, the heavy promotion doesn't start until May 1st from Sanguine, the head start right now has been a nice bonus. Every bit helps in the end of course.

Just got to keep up the pace.
