Hard is too easy, but nightmare is too cheese inducing and frustrating. There should have been just hard with more mobs

Don't use Mighty Offense, Run with only Teir 1 armor and weapona, play as a DD Rouge spec without stealth and no specialization, also Solo every mission available

Congrats its no longer easy

The fact that you have to gimp yourself on purpose to make this game challenging on the highest difficulty actually confirms OP's request. Of course, playing it only with your left pinkie while being blindfolded, deaf and drunk gives the game some challenge.

There is no need to play this game tactically - except maybe at Haven's end and the bossfight in JoH.

I think they're being facetious. Additionally, I wouldn't think the majority of the the player base agrees with the OP's assertions that nightmare is too easy. A few weeks ago, there was a thread floating around about how the game was too hard. So it seems that for some people, the game is too hard, and for others, the game is too easy, and then there's those of us who fall somewhere in the middle.

I personally thought the normal difficulty was time consuming enough. I would not be overly pleased if Bioware decided to make the game extra challenging for those who felt it too easy.

The OP might consider playing Dark Souls or Bloodborne (depending on platform)? I've heard those games are a challenge.

I wholeheartly agree with the OP. The great thing which comes with various difficulty options is there is a challenge for everyone who wants one - at least in theory. But nightmare is soo easy because of some design choices and balancing problems that I was bored after some time, especially after Haven. Ramping up the highest difficulty - and by "ramping up" I don't mean only add x% of resistences, y% of damage and z% of hitpoints - wouldn't harm the players who don't want to play for the challenge.

Indeed, there's nothing wrong with making the top tier difficulty more difficult - in future installments, anyhow (I doubt they could really overhaul successfully at this point. It'd just be inviting more issues I think).

It's impressive that you found NM difficulty easy, but don't forget that there's many of us who found regular and hard enough of a challenge ^_^ Bioware has to figure out a way to fit everyone in, and that's probably where the issues lie. What is considered easy? Difficult? Too easy? Too difficult? And even after implementing some system that attempts to answer those questions, there's always going to be some players who still found it too difficult/easy.

What changes would you have made to the difficulty leveling to make it better balanced across the board?

I'm always reading here and there that nightmare or insanity in Dragon Age and Mass Effect are easy from Origins and 1 up to now and it always seems the same.

I think it's the AI programing. I am playing around with a solo rogue, and almost any enemy can be killed with archery if you find the right spot.

Other than that, there are plenty of exploits. A rogue can use stealth to get to the inventory menu in the middle of battle and then equip/remove x 20 a dagger that has a constitution buff to replenish all health. And just today I used Danny the Druffalo to beat the level 12 demons at the rift by the waterfall near the farm. My rogue was level 5.

But I recommend going after enemies that are higher levels than you. That provides a better challenge.

Not a hardcore gamer so don't usually play on such difficulties.
Not a fan of tons of HP and loads of armour to penetrate... Too much mainstream.

Well, I partly agree that Nightmare is too easy. Somewhere after level 12-14, IF you are a completionist and, IF you spend a lot of time crafting optimizing your equipment.

Then you constantly fight underleveled enemies, and its way too easy. Only hard fights is if you run in to a dragon at your own level.

And even the final Boss fight is too easy, and at this point I didn't even bother to manage my companions. No wonder, at that time I was level 24 with the best equipment you could have (+5 guard, tier 4 materials, best schematics, etc etc)

The problem is ofcause that Bioware "locked" all areas and quests to certain levels and paced the game towards a more casual gamer then a completionist.

The good news is that Jaws of Hakkon is leveled to your level and now nightmare against normal mobs are quite hard and the 2 Bossfights are really, really difficult.

Enemy not scaling, is a huge problem,

especially at end-game if you become too leveled for the content.

Even leveling up to a medium level and going to a lower leveled area makes everything too easy.

Either having an enemy scaling system or

if they had enemy scaling as a new + nightmare difficulty, like an extra difficulty setting,

would be nice and might help with that.

Although, I don't know if having both enemy scaling and nonscaling options (for same areas just different difficulty setting) is possible though.

Also, as it is now, you can craft a weapon or armor higher than your own level (if you find the schematics), and it can make you overly strong for your level.

So, maybe make weapons/schematics that are too high for your level, unusable, until you level up more.

Or maybe have all the schematics available at a merchant, but level-locked or something.

Stop bringing Vivienne with you. Or you could just play naked, naked works too.

Stop abusing OP game mechanics: Barrier, Knight Enchanter, etc.
