I always favored rolling a Vanguard Shep with Liara and Garrus/Ashley/Wrex. With her powers spec'd up, Liara is pretty much a biotic goddess in that game, and coupled with light Colossus armor, was practically invincible, but I liked having Shepard be able to toss people around and be able to give them a face full of shotgun.

 For ME3 my preferred team no matter what class I play is Ashley and James

 

I did an ME3 playthrough as an adept only using reave as the only power and not firing my weapon at all. 

 

Playing  ME1 as adept is alright. I like watching all the boxes and crates flying around in the air with the enemies.

 

ME2 adept is ok as well. I like it when playing the Arrival dlc since its endless screaming from the baddies

in me2 I used garrus and zaeed with sniper rifles on insanity. I didn't even have to shoot myself a lot of times if I didn't want to. In me1 I didn't really need anyone except to open stuff, and me3 the same. I just take whoever I feel like.

For a somewhat skilled player, all games of the ME trilogy are easy, even on insanity. I played ME 1 + ME 2 as a vanguard and started ME 3 as a soldier (two games of charging around are enough  ). I think ME 3 is even easier, often the player alone can obliterate the bulk of enemy squads before they even got to cover. 

 

I agree, Liara's singularity makes the game totally unchallenging, so I didn't use her as a squadmate anymore. I mostly used a Garrus/Tali squad, which is also quite effective. If you equip them both with slow-firing, hard-hitting weapons, they do a decent amount of damage (especially Garrus with a sniper)  and come with more or less useful skills. In my opinion, you can choose whatever squad you want in any part of the ME trilogy. There is simply no need to power play this game, you could even do all the missions alone.

I like to have at least one squaddie with Overload on most missions. I tend to have at least one biotic though, yeah. My favourite power is probably Pull, incidentally. 

 

I've never bothered with Insanity pretty much out of sheer laziness. Can't be arsed with whittling down every enemy's defences.

In MP an all Adept team is murder.

So is an all human Engineer team.
