That's like saying "Open-heart surgery isn't so difficult once you've had a couple decades worth of experience".

Except Forbidden Oasis doesn't require decades. There are only a handful of paths. It is a great early game (pre-Skyhold) location for several reasons. It has plenty of shards to boost your resistances, lots of Paragon's Luster to make decent weapons early on. It has easy enough rifts to boost XP/power (the NW rift has a despair demon, but nothing overly difficult) and easy access to several herbs such as Witherstalk, Dragonthorn and Deep Mushroom.

It's also dull sand brown as far as the eye can see. Has a lot of layers in a game ill suited to platforming, uneven difficulty with the cave, and northwest Rift, and so many shards, where you have to run from point to another to find them, after finding the actual item to search them out. It's by far my least enjoyable area in the game, and the only things I actually find pleasant to look at are the temple (which is a whole 'nother level of annoying), and the Oasis itself, which is one pretty spot in an area of sand.

I was being hyperbolic about the decades thing.

“Through me you pass into the city of woe:
Through me you pass into eternal pain:
Through me among the people lost for aye.
Justice the founder of my fabric moved:
To rear me was the task of power divine,
Supremest wisdom, and primeval love.
Before me things create were none, save things
Eternal, and eternal I shall endure.
All hope abandon, ye who enter here.”

I like how you pulled the inscription from Balin's tomb from Moria into there, too

Twas actually an  adapted version of the recitation given given by 'the mysterious old man' to the Rohirrim after Medusheld was established, intended as a warning about the Paths of The Dead.

The way is shut.

It was made by those who are Dead.
And the Dead keep it.
Until the time comes.
The way is shut.

Peter Jackson used a similar recitation in the movie, but he had the King of The Dead say it to Aragorn during his journey through the halls.

Yes, OK I'm a complete Tolkien Nerd

Then go... just... go.....

Have your Forbidden Oasis, have your Hyenas and skeletons... and may they bring you joy and comfort amid your gnawed fingers, and ragged nails.

And if my first warning failed to move you, consider this:

Those who forever wonder in foolhardy pursuit of that which is forever unobtainable oft  mistake the chains that bind them, and walls that bar them for safety and security. But in shutting out the world around us, we truly lose our connection to the infinite; we become fleeting ghosts, doomed to retrace our same footsteps for eternity.

Do not think to return to me, wailing, and pulling out your hair, pleading for release. You shall find none.

Your choice is made.

The paths are a trap (paths usually are). Don't use them, stay up high, and drop down when necessary to reach shards.

This approach pays dividends in most of DAI.

In the Jaws of Hakkon DLC, there is a similar temple. In it, you find an etching on the wall (in elven) that has (I think) incredible and almost ridiculous implications, and no one has yet really commented on it.

I can very much see why it would be listed in the Keep.

How about not giving out spoilers for DLC that about 85% of games still can't play ok??

This is one of the threads I saw from another place and really wanted very much to respond to.

Get this: I love Forbidden Oasis!

And not only that! I also love DA:O's Fade and Deep Roads. Love it, love it love it!

It's a pity that EA/Bioaware have gained an audience which don't. But that, apparently, is a consequence of mongrel'ing your game.

It's not my favorite area but it's still enjoyable to play.

I have no issues with the Oasis.  It's pretty.  I have issues with the Exalted Plains. It's a craggy warzone with annoyance zombies.

I noticed difrence in Oasis if you get there in time Venatori wount be there.

If you go there later Harding will say ,we got here a bit late and it will be full of Venatori

If you go early you'll get hyenas and no one will say anything about anything really.  Once you hit level 11 or so the giant will spawn.  It'll be stomping around in water in the oasis.  Around that same level Venatori will show up and be muttering to themselves.  But yeah, if you hold off on going until you are a higher level you'll get a dialog about the giant and/or the Venatori.

Actually, the shards in the Oasis are all reasonably easy to get. Your issue is that you're likely trying to get the shards before fully exploring the area (hint: there are supremely easy ways to get up to the tops of the cliffs and upper walkways). I don't remember any difficult jumps at all, though you can get to spots where you need to hop down to the ground (and will take minor fall damage unless you have guard or cast Barrier first).

The only tricky treasure is that barrel. If you're having problems with other things, I'd suggest continuing to explore the area normally. You should find the intended routes soon enough.

The Forbidden Oasis is one of the better level designs in the game. It accomplishes a lot in a relatively small area and really rewards exploration.

I agree with this. It's a fun place with decent rewards IF you start relatively early.

I've played the game four times and I've yet to finish it, but every time I get a little more done and, although getting around is a hassle sometimes, it does encourage patience and exploration.

I agree! I love all three places! The grinding, the endurance, the growing sense of desperation. Then... Victory!

Fully agree. I usually farm Paragon's Lustre as soon as possible and after the first time - when you remember where the spawns are - it's easy to make a specific quick route that covers almost all of them, then rinse and repeat. I know many complain that the place is a maze but after the first playthrough I didn't have any problems with remembering the pathways and which leads to where. Still don't.

Also, I like the complexity of Oasis... like... let's say compared to Fallow Mire. Now, I love Fallow Mire and the atmosphere is amazing but it's basically feels like a short run from point A to point B and after point B, your done. I so wish that place would have been more complex and had more things to do in there.

The Fade - Wonderful experience, wouldn't miss it.

Deep Roads - One of my favorite sections of Dragon Age Origins

Forbidden Oasis - Nay, nay and thrice nay! Your liking for this place is both wrong and unnatural, and you can no longer be allowed to spout such heresy, it is an offence in The Maker's eyes!

Enough!

You shall not leave this thread until you REPENT!

Go up stairs and turn left when you see the paragons luster and don't stop till you reach the door.

That's it.

No need to go there if you are not OCD. There's some reward, but no big deal.

If you are OCD like me and you just have to collect every shard open every chest unlock every codex find every intel scan every planet until you reach 100% synchronization... then the oasis is just another thing on the way.

(Also, it should be "abandon all hope ye who enter here". Why am I telling you this? Because I'm OCD!)
