Hmmm, I can't compare them by gameplay since things have changed so much between DA:O and DA:I.

Lore-wise, though, I'd say a fully powered Solas is the most powerful mage.  If not him, then Vivienne as a Knight-Enchanter?  They're supposed to be special snowflakes, right?  Or Maybe Morrigan, since she would have learned magic at the feet of Flemeth/Mythal.

Among the warriors, I would say either Cassandra, Aveline or Blackwall (if he was a chevalier - I can't remember if he was or wasn't).

Cole would have to be the most powerful rogue with his special spirit abilities.

The interesting thing... if Cole is so powerful rogue-wise because of being a spirit, why isn't Justice (Awakening's Justice, anyway) the most powerful warrior?

Can either of them truly 'die' in this world, or would they just end up banished to the Fade?  Solas very specifically tells Cole not to die, as the world can't afford to lose a single spirit of Compassion, but some of the dialog in Awakening's seem to imply that Justice will go back to the Fade when his body fades although he's not sure if he wants to.  If either of them won't die here in this world of Thedes, that's a pretty powerful advantage.

If that's just speculation, though, Justice doesn't really have much.  Out of the video games, Alistair is able to dual the Arishok one-on-one and defeat him, which is protagonist level worthy (of course, in the comic books, he is the protagonist... well, one of them).  Cage matching the characters is, as has been said, hard due to the changing mechanics.

(I mean, do the Origins/Awakening folks get unlimited healing potions?  That's a pretty heavy advantage.)

Considering the Arishok is Sten that rules him out of the competition. Also that only proves that Alistair is not the weakest warrior companion. I also think about Fenris I mean he can ignore armor and just get your heart, can anyone defend against this? Maybe Shale if golems do not have a power core or something, do they?

Yeah that's a good point.  Justice can be a Spirit Warrior, which is a pretty OP class (especially when combined with an archer build).  But Cole was an incarnate spirit, whereas Justice had just possessed a cadaver.  Maybe that has something to do with Cole's unique abilities?

This guard captain from Kirkwall that you're friends with...

She's stronger than you.

Then again, do we believe Varric?

Now I understand why people think Cassandra is the most powerful warrior I saw Dawn of the Seeker and well she was very capable at a very young age logic presumes that her skills improved but logic also presumes that the reflex and speed decreased so who knows. Either way she a couple of golems and ogres and dragons and blood mages and a demon so yeah its hard to compete with her.

Warrior: Champion-specced Blackwall. He's immortal.

Rogues: Nathaniel Howe. Archers in DAA are the most OP class in all of DA.

Mages: Arcane Warrior Wynne. Never dies plus Mana Clash.

Warrior - Shale

Rogue - Cole

Mage - Solas or Morrigan (this is a hard one for me.)

As much as DA2 makes Aveline seem like a she-hulk, a walking tank who could punch a dragon in the face and live to tell the tales, but seriously she'd just a soldier and captain of the Kirkwall guard. Not that I have anything against her or other people's opinion, but how her physical strength and skills is equal with Cassandra who's a Seeker, Hero of Orlais and Right Hand of the Divine is beyond me.

As an individual, raw power would be Shale while magic would be Solas.

Aveline does have a sign that says "Don't".

That's a special kind of superpower in itself.

But yeah Cole when he can remain invisible.

Justice (spirit warrior FTW) or Cassandra

Solas or Flemeth, or Morrigan with Flemythal knowledge.

But gameplay-wise (whitout accounting for the PC) I recall some characters could be built to be pretty brutal (Anders in DA2, Nathaniel with the OP archery skills in Awakening, Merrill and all her sustained blood spells, even Isabela with the right combos with a warrior :P ). In DAI things are a little more equal between the mages, Templar spec is pretty OP, Walking Fortress is also very sweet, and Rogues are just the ultimate brutes damage-wise regardless of their spec.

Combat wise, I would say:

Warrior - Blackwall. Unkillable tank. Double that if he is weapon and shield

Rogue - Cole or Sera. Her thousand cuts ability is out this world

Mage - That's an hard one. Wynne with Vessel of the Spirit becomes an true powerhouse.

Why do folks think Shale is that strong?

She is actually undersized for a golem (her master shrank her), and our companions routinely kill them.

Mage: Either Solas or Morrigan, as they're both basically demi-god tier special snowflakes by now. Gameplay wise, Vivienne, because Knight-Enchanter.

Warrior: I'd say Cassandra all around. Blackwall gameplay-wise.

Rogue: Leliana, I reckon. After playing Hushed Whispers...and that's after she's been experimented on and tortured for a year straight. Gameplay wise...probably Sera.

It's certainly not Iron Bull. Every time a dragon so much as lands he faints. I don't understand it. In a dragon battle it's not unusual for him to faint 5 times while the others are no worse for wear. Ironic considering his love for dragon slaying.

Warrior :- Shale.

Rogue :- Cole.

Mage :- Solas.

Shale is a Golem which means she does not require sleep or nourishment or armor. At most, she only needs crystals. Golems are also immune to most earth magic and highly resistant to physical damage and that is without adding crystals.

Cole is a Fade spirit and after he is unbound or becomes more human like, his main weakness which is possession is almost negated. He can actually enter stealth properly by going into the Fade and the thing he does in game are incredible for a rogue. Cole is like the ultimate nightblade with his magic for illusory purposes.

Solas is Fen'Harel. That right there should be sufficient to make him the most powerful mage. Now he has parts of Flemeth / Mythal within him as well which means more power on top of what power he already has.

Cassandra is formidable but she is at the end of the day a human. She ages, she requires resting and she needs nourishment. She also needs armor and weapons to function at her best as well. Shale does not require any of these. Morrigan is powerful, especially if she drinks from the Well of Sorrows but that will inevitably enslave her to Mythal or Fen'Harel.

Ultimate Dragon Age Party :- Arcane Warrior Hero of Ferelden, Shale, Unbound Cole, Solas. This party could wreck everything.

If we're talking DPS...

Rogue: Tempest Archer (Sera) and Assassin DW (Cole)

Mage: I don't even know. All of mine were built so strong lol It's ridonkulous. Except Wynne. She was my dedicated Healer.

Warrior: Fenris, Reaver Warrior (Iron Bull)

It helps immensely to invest heavily in the vanguard skill tree, as well as building some resistance against elemental attacks, so he'll be reasonably resistant to cold and fire (electric dragons are the weakest of the lot so it's not a huge deal there), and then he'll also build plenty of guard so that he shrugs off a lot of damage. Now, he rarely ever falls for me except against maybe the most powerful dragons in the game.

Anyway, I'm caught between Cassandra and Shale, sort of leaning on the latter because she's a walking boulder. However, I'd say that Cassandra is the better guard for a party, since she is equipped to protect the rest of the group against magical attacks.

For the rogue, I'd say it's between Sera and Cole. That tempest spec is ridiculous. Thousand cuts would make short work of everyone else we've ever gotten, but Cole, being an assassin who also has his own kind of perception filter, can pretty much best them all.

I'd say it's between Morrigan and Solas for mages.

she's still an immortal living pile of rock, no matter how strong Cassandra or Fenris are, they can't say "will most likely live for the next three thousand years"

^ Do the crystals on her not make her stronger then the average golem also being sentient does not mean that she can learn new fighting styles?

The question is, what do you want in a warrior?  If you're talking tank, Cassandra or Alistair.  Damange Dealer?  I'd go with Fenris.

Rogue? If you're wanting an Archer, I'd have to go with Nathaniel Howe, even against Varric and Bianca. Dual-Wielder? Cole.

Mage - what do you want them to do? No one heals the way Wynne does, Anders "gifts" in DA:2 were clunky and I stopped trying to use him as a heal-bot. Damage dealer? Morrigan's clunky shape-shifting held her back, I think Dorian's powers kick butt, and the only reason I don't take it as a specialization for myself is because it "kills" spirits when you use it.  In terms of damage though? Wow.

So no easy answer as to who is the best.

Vivienne as KE outstrips a Necromancer by far

Of course not only who is strongest overall but by classes.

 Who is the stronger rogue

Cole, Zevran, Isabela, Varric, Sebastian Vael,, Leliana, Nathaniel Howe, Sigrun, Jerrik Dace,Sera, Talis

Who is the strongest warrior:

Iron Bull, Cassandra, Blackwall, Alistair, Loghain, Sten, Shale, Ariane, Oghren, Justice, Carver, Fenris, Aveline

Who is the strongest mage

Morrigan, Wynne, Velanna, Anders, Finn, Merill, Bethany, Dorian, Vivienne, Solas

My opinion is that Cole us the strongest rogue as he can be invisible for others and read minds

For warriors, Fenris or Shale its a hard think to answer here.

For mages well the one who is a god.

Rogue: Sera and Leliana.

Warrior: Cassandra and Sten.

Mage: Morrigan or Magequisitor. ;)
