I had a drunk Alistair in one playthrough when I recruited Loghain and became prince consort. Midway thru DAI, I decided to make him a dead Alistair so he doesn't redeem himself and start vying for the throne. Just recently, I figured my Warden isn't even worried about the throne..so meh, but I think that a drunk Alistair is a unique outcome that they could go anywhere with if they wanted to do it.

I imagine when the mages forced them out of redcliff he went with Teagan to Denerim. He mostly likely stayed at the mansion there and didn't step foot in the kingdom for obvious reasons
