Are Infiltrators too popular?

Just started a lobby to make sure I get my stability passives on my Geth Spitfire Havoc. First one in, a GI. Ok, not bad. Next one in, another GI. Ok, I get on the mic to make a request saying "No way I'm playing with two Infiltrators. One of you need to change." One guy responds by changing to KroGuard. But then the last guy in is a Shadow. So off I go to close the lobby.

Next lobby, first to join me is that same Shadow kit. Guess who came next? Yep, another Infiltrator in the name of Ghost. I'm off to try third time is the charm right now.

So my question is whatever you want it to be. Stuff like do you think it's too popular or not, if you'd play with more then one Infiltrator if your not one yourself, and so on.

To answer the question in the title, no they're not. In fact I barely see them on PC pugland other than the occasional TGI and AIU. Soldiers in general and Juggies in particular are by far the most popular.

While pugging I only ever see GI when I use one.

Honestly OP, the whole 'aggro dump' mechanic claimed by many on BSN is far too overblown .. who cares. You should have enough playtime for it to be irrelevant what others are using

Yes, Infiltrators are probably too popular.

Yes, I have played and will play with more than 1 Infiltrator in the lobby, if they look like they are well-equipped and competent.  If I'm attracting a ton of attention because I'm playing with 2-3 other guys who have cloaks, those Infiltrators had better be using the opportunity to kill stuff.  The worst thing in the world is an Infiltrator who cloaks all the time and sucks too much to kill anything.

That being said, as a conscientious and considerate gamer, I'll usually switch away from an Infiltrator if I see a couple of others in the lobby.

Side note:  I don't really consider a melee Shadow to be an "infiltrator" for "aggro dumping" purposes.  She attracts plenty of aggro, at least the way I play her.

Agro dump is not the only issue. Infiltrators are the whole package. ie. way too OP. Agro dump as a bonus is just the icing on the cake.

Even if I have enough playtime to handle it, the other pug in the lobby next to 2 infiltrators might not.

Also, most play Infiltrators wrong. With the only good thing they at is dumping agro and dying way too much. No thanks. I'll look for another lobby. At least in my opinion. You can do what you want, as I can just as easily leave to try another matchup.

And even if they do play them right, I doubt many have any interest to revive the dying pugs when epeen is at stake. Rambo class if there ever was one.

Of course. Because they have the highest survivability/easy to play/high damage output. AIU and TGI have shield regens even in cloak. And they are off-host friendly.

@Sinful - Pugs are gonna pug, the bad ones will suck with any class (yes, the pug with a juggy and a cyclonics IV dropping every wave does happen).

I play video games for fun, not to babysit others who may be over their heads for the difficulty

Edit: I very rarely encounter anyone in a pug match that is truly OP

Is this yet another thread whining about something that bothers pretty much no one?

There aren't many infiltrators around and if there are, they are usually competent. Except the Shadows, most of those simply suck.

I only change my kit if I think it would be better for the team, as in switching to biotic or tech depending on the other people in the lobby. I try to be accomodating but if I need a certain kit for a challenge, then you better accept that I will play GI or QFI or whatever... or I can look for another lobby.

Asking me in a judgemental tone of voice to switch kits will only result in me laughing at you before leaving.

Sinful Force, do you play on PC? Because if you do, please stay away from me as far as possible. Otherwise I'd be forced to do something we'd both regret.

No. It's been brought to you by the "make a wish foundation." So no complaining whatsoever.

When I came to the realization that they are way too overrated, they became my least played class.

^ As a class I would consider Vanguards to be more powerful than Infiltrators

Not off-host friendly. Unless maybe Kroguard or Brawler. And even then, lag spike and you're dangling on a wrist.

Over rated in what way? You saying they cant kill stuff? They do, but other kits kill just was well, if you have a full manifest. But I think instead of being over rated, kits such as the Infiltrator class shines when a person that can play it very well will usually shine, and that goes for any other class

Infiltrators are rated highly because they deal high damage, and if playing Gold or Platinum, can be part of a good team. But just like the Juggy, not everyone who plays one does it well, and some as you are probably inferring use it as a crutch, instead of learning other classes and rounding out their skill set

All I tend to see are the TGI and the GI.

I tend to use the QFI. :)

I've had some off-host games where every one in four biotic charges actually was recognised. Same happened with the Shadow with Shadow Strike.

More like "It is more difficult to uber-stomp the game with an off-host vanguard than an on-host one" Stompage still happens with the majority of these kits though

IMO, only on really laggy off host scenario's is there an issue.

I play at least half of them at various times (but not the TGI or AIU in pugs) and i see all of them in pugs, but many if not all dont score that high with them, so I figure they are using them for CP and just trying them out

AIU /lolReegar being the popular pug choice of that class

I also think why a lot of pugs use the AIU is the kits they have, for them, havent proven themselves (lack of full manifest not knowing how to play at a high skill set) and have seen from watching others how OP it can be. Now, if they came from a CoD 1st person shooter mindset I want to top the scoreboard, then you probably have their number B)

I don't especially like the AIU... I don't know why. It just feels kind of odd. I quite like playing as the Shadow, because it's quite a fun class to play as, but the class I've used the most is the QFI.

At the moment, however, I'm using the QFE. That's my gold class at the moment, with the Mattock X with precision scope and extended barrel. :)
