Getting good items doesn't mean anything to me, actually. My equipment is good enough to play Perilous. If I have all the stuffs - then what? If they should put their focus on anything, it's new maps and enemies.

 

I'm not saying that I'm not intrigued by the outlook of and disappointed when not getting, phat loot from chests. On the other hand though, everything you're getting out of chests is ultimately stuff that helps you complete those challenges which you long stopped playing for anything else than getting stuff to complete those.... [...]

 

It's like a plushie doll claw machine, except the clawing part is more fun.

The problem is the more you play and buy chests eventually you spend more time salvaging items than actually buying chests. There is just to many flaws with this rng crap and the salvaging aspect is also screwed imo. Why cant i put all the junk in a junk area like single player and scrap it all at once instead of triangle X triangle X. Then after 10 minutes of that i buy more and its more crap. There needs to be more rewards for players barely holding on to this game like myself. Its getting to dried out and im tired of not having gear that newbs have and ive been grinding on here so long. Now they are tweaking the unnoticed rng rate.... you ask anyone how to buy chest they say on weeksends, after perilous, after you take a shower on a monday with a band aid stuck to your butt.... no one knows because it is so unnoticed... The first and last time i seen any difference was when i hit about 150-200 points. Other than that not at all.... the way this game is set up it needs so much time to get loot and promotions to build core stats. Then all that work is wasted on the same 3 little maps and the same 3 enemies. Why not make new items new maps and maybe a character or 3? I can think of at least 1 of each class that isnt in this one but is in previous da so its not like biowa needs to think its all right in front of them. Its just getting kinda dry.

So, a bit of news about upcoming changes from today's stream. Changes are coming to chests, more details will come later, but they're basically making it so your spent gold and collected treasure room chests put you at certain intervals that increase the chances of you getting good loot.

 

Not many details yet, but sounds promising and should help out those long time players who haven't got their purple heal ring etc.

It should increase the chance of getting the high level purples that I am missing, and not low level crap either. As it stands, I`ll get 50 lvl 8 purples instead of 40 Army Dirks and 10 useless purples and I would`ve gained nothing past what I have now - I will STILL not get what I want and I will STILL have no use for what I AM getting.

 

 

This is currently how the system already works, we are just looking at improving it so that the progression curve is more rewarding. We are still designing this so I can't get into many details or dates, but it is an extremely high priority for the team.  This would of course be retroactive, and your previous chest openings would count.

 

Please make it so it counts towards high level uniques or rather purples that I haven`t gotten yet, rather than increasing the chance of me getting a 50th Griffon Bow. Alternatively, increase the chance of dagger by 2x also, as some of us like identical off-hands and waiting for a second Red Birth can be an adventure of its own.

I'm sure I'll find an appropriate compensation for it from the neatly catalogued assortment down in my Caliban cellar. You'd have a free choice of vintage, too.

It is? I never did, never received that M-7, Spitfire and Punisher, but hey, I got ton of level 4 ammo upgrades.

It will probably be something like this:

 

"Great news! We have improved the drop rate significantly and now gear has never been so easy to get"

 

When, in reality, they would only add 0.1% increase per million spent, or 0.00000001% per chest. So, you`d need 10 mils for a whooping and unprecedented level of awesomeness of ONE PERCENT increase in chance of ANY purple, not purples that you miss and about 899.5 mil more chests for 0.5% increase of item.

 

The sad part will be that everyone will be dumb enough to actually think that`s a good thing.

 

I really hope they do the right thing and increase by a large margin - up to 50% raw chance of getting MISSING purples - past 1 mil gold spent, and not the above.

Missing purples is not going to happen, not without a complete overhaul of the system, which I don't see as in the cards for this title.

I can't help but feel like this is happening now because the Devs at Bioware are starting to get to the point in their personal accounts where they are noticing the same thing that players were noticing about the Loot system. And because they don't play as often as the Hardcore who quit within 2 months of release due to boredom, they didn't notice the deficiency until now.

 

Maybe I'm just reading into it.

It's business reasons.  Why would they tweak RNG in a negative way (for them)?

 

The player base is on the verge of collapse.  If they do nothing, in a month, or two months, DAMP simply will not be sustainable anymore.  It will be a ghost town.  This forum will be a ghost town.

 

Tweaking RNG = desperation mode

after so much grinding for creds to buy packs in ME3MP, still a ways off.  some items I had not received, and upgrades for some other weps were equally illusive.  I do suppose if continued grinding and grinding I would eventually get everything, and leveled to 10.  How long would that really take though? 

 

As I brought this up in another thread, BW needs to tweak their algorithms to ensure players receive the puple items, over chests purchased.  Sounds like they are working on it in the background, so let's see what they do.

If they increase the unique item drop rate too much, and stop with the useless duplicates of uniques, then manifests would fill too quickly, and we would lose the sense of progression, and there isn't much else in DAMP other than promotion grinding.

If, on the other hand, they continue to let RNGeezus troll the cr*p out of players, they won't feel that there's any sense of progression.

It's been suggested multiple times, by multiple people, that using duplicates to upgrade stuff could alleviate this problem to an extent, but I suspect that's not likely to happen. Probably because it would break the immersion created by my character rubberbanding around the map like a pinball on MDMA.

Here`s the thing - I am already at the "isn`t much else in DAMP other than promotion grinding", and I`ve been there from about 500k into the game. That was roughly the time where I have gotten 2nd best bow and about the top 4 staves, plus 2nd best shield and some other useful stuff, including TWIN Wicked Grace. I suspect that anybody at around 500k mark has useful stuff, varying anywhere from 4th best in slot to 1st or 2nd. By the MAX or 1 mil we are already at the "I am missing only one, two or a max of five top items to have full best in slot all toons".

 

So, by 500k or so, this game is done regardless, and you`re going into "oh look! let`s grind promotions!". So, yes, by let`s say 1 mil, we SHOULD have everything, because at that time is doing more harm than good - you are either the type of player that doesn`t give a damn, or you`re getting pissed off about the lack of ... entitlement and moving on to other games that are more logical into their progression, and not dice oriented.

Never said that MEMP's loot system was good ... I thought it was horrible but compared to DAMP it feels like heaven...

But let's wait for the next Patch/DLC and see

Most of the original player base (day 1) got it maxed by the time they hit 400 hours. Considering since then they added extra credits for extraction and Platinum difficulty, it would be perfectly possible to max your manifest in 200 hours as long as you're playing with players that can carry you for the first 50 hours or so.

You'll never get that kind of numbers from DAMP...

The repeat items is what frustrates me.
perhaps if the item is in the inventory it doesn't drop?
If it's salvaged the a repeat would be possible. It least the player has some control.

Problem with that is within 75k gold everyone would have a maxed manifest, assuming they didnt break their weapons down.  Progression would be too fast if that was the case.

True. Though I'd argue that skill rings should not repeat regardless since even if two are worn only one will have an effect.

Here's a thought: certain weapons (or at least the rares/uniques I pay attention to anyway) have a range for their base damage. If the base damage on the current weapon in the player's inventory is not max, make the repeat weapon's damage one step higher on the range. If it's at max base damage, then remove it from the potential weapon pool.

This would allow people that absolutely want separate grips/handles/runes to hold on to slightly different versions of the same weapon and yet still eventually remove that weapon from the pool. The rule could exclude common items so those would always have a chance of showing up, but at least some variety could be found for those unfortunate souls getting multiple weapons once they max their proverbial manifest.

And it would mean I wouldn't have to look at an inventory window full of seven Serpent's Rage!

Which brings me back to how BW coded ME3MP.  After over 900hrs played (sad but true--really loved the game), still waiting on certain weps, as well as upgrades.  However they did things, it seems to somehow favor some players over others.  I would like to see how they code things, because despite ME3MP RNG being better than DAIMP RNG (which I have no argument about), I am not willing to say ME3MP RNG was really much better.  Those of you who got your stuff with 200-300 hrs condier yourself very lucky.  That is point I am trying to make that some of you are simply not getting.

Mileage does vary. I put 920 hours into MEMP but still have c.90 U/R unlocks and may never max my manifest.

I'm not an uber player, I didn't presume to get carried on Platinum and didn't farm in the Box of ShameTM.

 

After 800k gold in DAMP, I've been much more successful missing only a few of the best weapons.
