I'm not a fan of cookie cutter builds I like to learn them but often use my own build thats pretty close. I'm working on Lego build thats right for me. I just jump into random games so I build a little bit different on some characters. This is what I got so far.

Walking Fortress

Counterstrike

Payback Strike

My 4th skill im debating on shield wall, to the death or shield bash. I'm not a fan of war cry or unbowed with this build. There is combat roll or grapple chain which I never really used before. Any advice would be welcome.

To The Death is pretty awesome for eliminating bosses. It's that or War Cry, imo, and you don't want WC.

Personally I snag Warcry just as an added taunt. To the death has become pretty popular though, and may be the better route if you find yourself having to carry more often than not.

I actually just started playing legionnaire (I got the game in December, ha!) and am digging the popular builds on this here forum.  It's pretty much what you have, plus either TTD for the bosses on perilous or shield wall for the parry maneuver.  Get Flow of Battle to reduce cooldowns and just stand and laugh while enemies plink off of you.

Payback strike is doubly-helpful here in that it hits multiple enemies, so with each one a possible crit (and cooldown reduction (and knockdown!)) you can deal some pain in addition to tanking.  I usually end up first or second at the end of the match on threatening with that build.

Yeah I'm leaning towards TTD.

TTD is a great ability, especially for bosses and tougher units (ahem... Druffalo).

It looks like I'm going to end up with this exact build. Now if only my Katari was so easy.

I would NOT recommend TDD.

If you want optimal choice take War cry. You don't need really upgrade for it (so it's cheaper), you can take +20% damage passive vs taunted and with countestrike + warcry you can maintain it pretty much all the time on everybody (boosting damage, your guard and having more chances for payback strike to stun targets).

TDD is clunky. Low range, clunky projectile which love to hit someone else on way because boss moved. It's slow and there aren't really anything worth even on perilous which will survive enough for TDD to matter.

It's only useful on

a) bosses if you team can focus damage. If not, boss increased damage can even wipe you.

B) on revenants and arcane horrors in chest rooms

c) pride demons

Main problem are not bosses and those big mobs but groups of archers and other groups. TDD does not help you there at all. All you need there is taunt those mobs somehow (so your team can just focus on dps) and survive it (for which you got walking fortress if your guard is not enough). There is no time to aim with TDD and choose some big pride demon, brute or other higher health enemies in the group.

War cry's range is so small though. It does seem like maybe TTD is not my best choice though.

I prefer TTD over War Cry by a long shot.  I ran a build a while back using payback strike, TTD, walking fortress and lunge and slash and it was enjoyable and easily survivable on perilous.

War cry's upgrade give something like 200% armor bonus for 10 seconds, which really helps to ease the pain when mobbed. And cutting words is pretty useful and team oriented. TDD seems like all it has on war cry is better range. Still looks like TTD is preferred here so I'll have to try it out next time around.

Ttd, when upgraded, builds a lot of guard depending on how much damage your dealing to a single target.it deals more dmg for every second your target is alive. increases dps output by a large margin. Walking fortress+ttd=dead bosses in seconds.

I thought it was 4 seconds?

Only bad thing about TTD is it takes 2 points so I lose a passive

I hate skills that I only use on bosses...I'm looking at you, Marked for Death. Oh, and TTD.

Shield wall all the way! More xp for you/your team, faster levels, better stats, winning! If I didn't care about xp, I would go with WarCry.

Good teams shouldn't need your damage to kill bosses. If you are playing mostly pugs, I can see an argument for TTD.

The taunt duration is 4 seconds. Armor bonus duration is 10 seconds.

That just might make it worth it. Do you have to hit someone with war cry to get the bonus?

I'm almost positive you do have to hit something to activate the bonus. If you hit nothing, the cool down doesn't activate.

10 seconds of double armor would make it worth it

Payback, Walking Fortress, War Cry, Counterstrike.  It is recommended because it is probably the best combination of skills.  If you want a hipster lego build, I guess you could go all offensive skills.

TTD is somewhat amusing to see how high you can get single target hits though.

As well as:

  • Walking Fortress
  • Counterstrike
  • Payback Strike

I've started taking Combat Roll instead of Shield Wall.

Simply because it's more fun, but you probably would need to have decent constitution and some life-drain to justify it.

The build I'm using now is without counterstrike but have unbowed, war cry and all the passives.

I miss being able to max guard without mobs around or taunt the whole room but I think those 4 points were better spent on unbowed and 2 passives. I'm not a huge fan of unbowed but its fast and keeps me alive between wf and wc.

Very true, the pain of Counterstrike is it being right at the bottom of the other skill tree...
