Lunge and Slash is too fun for me to leave out. No cooldown when used from a certain distance, and detonates for massive damage.

Your choices should be either Shield Wall or To The Death.

SW is amazing in 2 ways. 1st and most obvious, is complete damage mitigation, with some guard build. 2nd is it grants you a TON of bonus support XP. Tired of being the one on the bottom of the xp meter at the end of the match? Block an enemy attack with SW, then hit it with Payback Strike. Boom, there's more XP than whomever kills that target is awarded. This is the best way to help your group, and it will level everyone faster. There's potential to get 30-40k XP from a Perilous run.

To The Death is useable on bosses and anything big, and it's wonderful synergy with Walking Fortress. Use it on Red Templar Commander, kite him around for 10-20 seconds, then have your team go ham on him.

Shield Bash is meh (great for detonating, but leave that to your rogues) otherwise underwhelming. War cry is ok, nice to have a 2nd taunt, but honestly, if you have Counterstrike and To The Death, that's all the taunt you need. Unbowed guard build is just a weak form of Counterstrike without all the stuff that makes getting full guard worth an ability. You can enjoy some nice mobility with Lunge and Slash, but really you want just 1 offensive ability and that's Payback Strike. AOE, knockdown/stun, and it gets you up from any disabled condition yourself (Demon Commander fear, knocked down etc)

Before I reset I used war cry, unbowed, walking fortress and payback strike and every defense passive. It worked quite well together but I'm going to try a new build.

I'm not ready for perilous yet.

I'd say that Shield Wall is your best bet then. Block will keep you alive better in most situations vs Unbowed, and give you more xp (bonus support) resulting in faster leveling, more promotions, generally getting stronger to take on Perilous soon.

When do you consider a Lego is 'Perilous ready'? (not just addressed at you, but you triggered the thought)

  • Is it about quality of weapon?
  • Prestige level of constitution?
  • Practice?

Just curious...

When I don't get owned by normal mobs.

Shield wall is pointless at this point because threating with a team everything dies too fast.

All you really need is counterstrike and WF. Beyond that, use what you like. I can tank perilous with counterstrike, WF, shield wall and payback strike. I've tried swapping SW for something else but it doesn't really matter, as long as you can keep aggro and stay alive go for it. Cutting words passive is great when used with CS+WC combo and that's what I usually go with, but keeping shield wall frees up 2 ability points (which could be used to upgrade payback strike, among other things).

Next build I'll have to take lunge and slash, haven't tried that one yet.

And btw, when playing as lego I usually finish second or third on the scoreboard. So much for xp ineffeciency huh.

It is actually gold + exp / time efficiency. From a pure rewards standpoint, lego's aren't really better than having other warriors (katari, reaver, templar) who can all out-dps the Lego unless the player + account is not sufficiently ready for Perilous. I could top scoreboards in pugs with a Lego, but I'd do much better on other warriors, and in better time. If you're not top score then you need to be playing a specific role that saves time rather than generates exp. Keepers that provide barrier, assassins taking out high threat targets, etc.

Lunge and Slash is very fun however. You can dominate threatening and below with it because every strike will kill, and every strike has no cooldown when used on distant targets, hopping from target to target.

Perilous enemies have too much HP to do that though.

I'm taking a break from MP for a bit but I think I like shield wall. I'm just not great at using it. My new build runs the passives and SW, PS, WF and WC. Not a fan of CS till I get HoK items or better gear. It seems to bite off more then I can chew. Plus I have like 0% crit chance from my gear so skills take a while to get off cooldown.

But can they hold off a group of darkspawn for two days?

Yeah I don't play lego exclusively, but still it's probably my favorite warrior class (maybe tied with katari). I try to have lots of different characters on level 14+ so when I play perilous I'm not stuck to one role.

Why didn't you just kill them? --Katari (I think)

Same for Katari + Reaver, fighting and killing would've been the better option than tanking.

I believe you, I just don't care about effectiveness. Ok maybe I did some cunning boosting with the archer but those days are over, I swear I even went to rehab. Lego is fun to me and that's all that matters, even if it means I might get my next promotion a little slower.
