I think the Bioware writers will simply say "hey presto, space magic ... AI can't work in the Andromeda galaxy".
It's the only way to not make a mockery of the ME3 ending ... it's painfully idiotic, but it's the only way.

A cliffhanger? It may not have spelled out the individual fates of Shepard's friends, but I'd hardly call it a cliffhanger.
Fair enough
Actually - for all we know, they already have colony ships that would not require much in the way of retrofitting to convert them to much longer distance ark ships. The major species have been doing colonization for awhile now.
Also - for all we know, existing dreadnoughts may have been designed with the capacity to carry thousands of additional personnel, perhaps in statis pods - in cargo bays, crew quarters, whatever. Again, some retrofitting for longer distances, and an ark ship is born.
The concept art shows a Citadel-like environment, that may be it.

Maybe. That thing looks huge, whatever it is.
It would jive well with the concept of an Ark though, they would need a habitat in case there aren't any habitable planets immediately at hand.
It's also worrisome if that is actually it, for a bunch of reasons,
Of course, that's assuming the veracity of the leaked survey.

Hmmm, I've been thinking about it over the last few days, and I have an idea as to why folks are upset if we leave The Milky Way other than the endings and/or choices like the genophage, ect. This is one of the few games I've ever played that took place in our future, less than 160 years from now. What's more, is this is the first time I've ever had the chance to explore our very own galaxy in any setting. I usually don't play many sci-fi games.
That was exciting, running around and seeing some of the areas where Hubble has taken pictures. It felt more immediate to me. Also, it was neat to go to Luna in the first game and Mars in the third. Mars especially, since we've barely gotten some probes up there within our lifetime. I used to daydream about being one of the first colonists on Mars when I was a little girl.
I'm not opposed to leaving the galaxy, and I'm remaining open minded to the idea. Frankly, if I didn't think BioWare had some handle on what they were doing, I would not be on the forums. However, there is going to be a bit of a loss of intimacy. There was a certain...something to being able to fly into the Sol system. I did it in both ME1 (not just for the VI quest) and ME2 mainly because I could. There is a connection there because that's the cradle of our race. Personally, I don't think we need that connection going into the fourth game of a series, but it is something that will be missed by me.
On the other hand, I have an idea as to why we might leave. I remember, long before I ever played the ME games, that the promotional material surrounding ME3 said that a new player could start with that game. As someone that came into the series mostly blind last year, I could say that about ME2, but not ME3.
If they started the next ME game in Andromeda, then a new player could come into the series from there. While I'm sure that preserving player choice is part of the reasoning behind this move, drawing in new players is probably another reason behind this.

I have a little sneaking suspicion they're actually going back to square one and starting a second trilogy, this time with Andromeda as the host galaxy.

Whereas I could see us in an previously uncharted area of the Milky Way and ending up in Andromeda much like the Omega Relay in ME2. With the second and third games taking place there. I think BioWare is going to be doing another trilogy. I don't think you're wrong by any stretch, but both seem plausible to me. In any case, they'll have to expand the lore to explain either scenario. ![]()

Yup. It will be interesting to see how they handle all this lore-wise. Not that the original trilogy was always particularly respectful of the lore established in ME1, but this time there is a number of challenges to be dealt with.

This is the reason why I am starting to hate them. Same thing here! my first Mass Effect game was 3! why? because I saw the REAPERS and then when I played the game I was like... WTF AM I DOING? I am completely lost... then I went back to 1 and 2. Agreed Andromeda is a great place for newbies but I hope they won't forget their old player base... we don't need more COD brain-dead 360 quick scope players in another galaxy

Yeah that's how I started Mass Effect. Originally I thought of Mass Effect as a nerdy weird mediocre game. Then my cousin convinced me to try ME3... horrible decision obviously.

Id say it was good one. The series as a whole is very solid.
I also loved the ME games not just because they were good but also because while it dealt with aliens, Reapers, planets and all other stuff it was also full of history. Full of human history even if it was not that long. That planetoid in ME2 where some miner carved a message in russian that there was nothing there. The way you had colonies and the history with batarians and other little bits and bobs that made it seem alive. Made it seem more humane. More lived in. Gave us the connection.
Without that I am afraid its going to end up as a generic scifi game. Something set in the indeterminate future who knows how many years from now, without any history in between. In a galaxy where everything will be alien to humans and humanity. No shared history of the galaxy, no shared anything like the Council or previous relationships which would provide at least some context.
It could be really good but its also a very tough thing to do well and while I have thought quite highly of the abilities of the Bioware team to deliver, this time I do not think they will. I am sorry that I think so but I just dont believe that the people who made the endings or who thought that in their original state they would be well accepted by the players can do something good with that.
I am worried that all those gameplay things leaked are going to end up as window dressing, as another batch of "**** to do" to make the game longer. Frankly I did all the little things in the DAI, not because I liked doing them but because I wanted as close to 100% as I could be. Now I know a lot of that is just not worth the time it takes. It made the game long but also half of it could be thrown out without making the game worse in any way. Which is exactly what I fear MEN is going to end up as. A 100-150 hour game where the main story will last around 30-40 with another 10-20 being interesting content and the rest useless filler.

I too latched onto ME1 because of the science fiction, but I didn't really love the series until I latched onto the characters and story. Also 30-40 hours of main content is already longer than the previous mass effect games! I do also fear "fetch-questing", it's something that dragged DAI down when it really needed help with the main story (especially the ending). That said I don't believe the Mass Effect team has ever failed to motivate players with their stories, and Bioware has said that DAI won't be the template for ME4 so I trust them there.

Its not that they wont motivate, it probably is going to be a good game but the task is much bigger than that. They have to somehow keep the familiarity of the ME universe and yet start off in another galaxy. They are nearly mutually exclusive goals.
That is if the leak is true. I am still going to hope its false.
The thing that really got me hooked in ME was the fact that humanity wasn't first. They didn't have dibs on the Citadel, they didn't discover it first. They were the latest race (out of many) to discover it. They didn't have the largest fleet, the turians (or the quarians by the third game) had that honor. They didn't have the strongest guns, the asari (Destiny Ascension) had that honor. The humans were just there. This lack of jingoism is what really propelled me into the MEU.
Beyond that, I think I fell in love with the game so much that it just felt like I was going in head over heels.
Id say it was good one. The series as a whole is very solid.
yes it is
Id say it [ME3] was good one. The series as a whole is very solid.
Bioware is severing all connections to the trilogy and starting completely new in the Andromeda Galaxy because of Mass Effect 3. I guess they couldn't think of a better and easier way of fixing the series.
So, no, i'd say it isn't good.
People will be more disappointed about not being able to play in the Milky Way than not having their sh!tty colorcoded ending mattering.Let's be realistic, Bioware can't continue in Citadel space after ME3's endings without disappointing a big amount of the player base.
I don't think 'Everyone' wants to remain in MW. I read of people who don't want to say in MW.People will be more disappointed about not being able to play in the Milky Way than not having their sh!tty colorcoded ending mattering.
It's like half of the fandom has convinced themselves the other half has this massive hardon for the endings and refuses to play any new games without their choice being catered to, when the reality is everyone just wants to play a new Mass Effect game in the galaxy we know and love.
With all this debate about leaving the Milky Way galaxy, I can't understand why some people are so vehemently against it. I'm a little sad and unsure about leaving it behind and starting a new game in a new galaxy, but I think a lot of "fans" are just complaining way too much.
Sure, it would be nice to stay, it's our home. But there's absolutely no way Bioware could make a sequel to ME3 while staying in the Milky Way, given the endings we had to choose. Either you completely disregard any choices made, and force players into a "canon" ending/beginning so as to keep them happily in the Milky Way, or you allow the possibility for any of the choices made into the sequel, which is impossible (or at least incredibly difficult) to take into account each possible scenario and fit into a standard setting. Either way, the fans would be unhappy that their decision had no "effect".
Someone else on these forums said something along the lines of "People want a game where their decisions have impacts on the game, but without changing what they're familiar with." It was something like that, how we want to decide what happens in the game that affects everything but at the same time we don't want to change everything (ME3's endings).
Don't think I said that very well.
TL;DR: people are complaining too much about moving to Andromeda, but the sequel can't take place in Milky Way, because ME3.
