Dude, what's the point of the forum if not that?
You're not wrong; I'm just saying this is one aspect I think I'm gonna avoid discussing.
The next question might be: "well then whey did you post?"
Its answer would be, "idk."
Dude, what's the point of the forum if not that?
I don't understand something. IIRC, the supposed leak mentioned that we're going to Andromeda to find a new planet for humans--specifically. But why would we need to go all the way to Andromeda for that?
I could understand if it was just to go and explore. See what's there. But the leak makes it sound like this trip is not just exploration for exploration's sake.
I could have imagined that a worm hole opens up due to the Crucible firing. And perhaps some ships got caught up in it at that point. And ended up in Andromeda, But the leak sounds like much more of an organized endeavor.
Personally, I would have liked to have seen the ramifications of the Reaper war on the Milky Way. Even disregarding state of the galaxies choices, the Milky Way got battered very badly. It would have been interesting to me to see how that changed the MEU as I knew it.
However, I'm okay with going off to Andromeda, too. Mainly because it's unknown. There's no one there to fall back on, either. No Council, no Alliance, no allies. Just you. And you have no idea how things work there; who are the good/bad guys; who is at war with who--and why? Truly, a stranger in a strange land. It makes me feel a certain sense of discovery again.
And the idea that we may be cut off from the Milky Way makes it feel more urgent, and a bit dangerous.
If a hole opened up and sucked a couple'a ships through they would be unprepared for the journey. They would have to fight ... Errrr.... Wait. Maybe that's what happened. Maybe a hole opened up, they had to fight the natives of the Andromeda galaxy (because let's face it, they're on a warship fighting for the lives of everyone in our galaxy), sent off a message, and we're there three hundred years later to finally receive that message. So, therefore, we build an ark to go and get them. Hmmmm. Sounds plausible. Hell, that could be what happened to the Normandy.
The only thing that I hope, and pray, is that humans do not come first. In anything. Not tech. Not physical prowess. Not gun power. Not military power. And I hope that their writing shows that. Or rather, I suppose that would be their lack of writing about humans, but I digress.
Make humans the underdog. Because in a galactic setting, we're almost sure to be the underdog.
I asked because I didn't know, and I wasn't sure if Hanako was making something up. Now I know.
Well, I'm glad I was able to give you a new piece of information today. I love the subject and enjoy talking about it ![]()
Well, even at that speed traversing the distance would take centuries. It's inconvenient and resource intensive enough that going back would be prohibitively costly to the colonists, who are probably struggling for resources as is.

Well, if we do go off to Andromeda, all of the species on the journey will be underdogs. I think it would be focused on the Other-ness of Andromeda and the life forms.
Humans, or Asari, or Krogan, or whatever, we are gonna be at the bottom of this particular pile. We will be the only representatives of our species. With no knowledge of the area. We are the strangers here. You have no power. No voice. No say.
lol! It could be interesting.

A perfect place in the Mass Effect series to introduce playable races as well, since like you said all the races of the Mass Effect universe are now in the same boat, no pun intended.

Perhaps that will happen, but I have a feeling it is doubtful with Mass Effect in the end. Didn't they already show off how the main character would look at a press conference last year?
Or at the very least, their armor design? Of course it was human only in that regard.

They did, but the same happened with DAI. They showed off the Human Inquisitor when the game was going to be a human-only protagonist. So likewise what we see now may not be the end result.
That's one of the big things I'm hoping isn't in 4, is multiple playable races. Thankfully it doesn't seem likely. Now if only I had similar confidence there'd be consistent fully cinematic conversations and a beefy main narrative. One down, two to go!
I am not in favour of multiple-race selection for SP. I am hoping for cinematic conversations that comes with plenty of fluid dialogue choices. I pray that we do not see the return of autodialogue in the capacity of ME3 had.
Wait a minute. We're not actually moving to such a world, are we? I thought the whole point of the plan is that there won't be any back-and-forth between the old and new settings. No going back, and no more ships coming in. I'm betting on a one-shot wormhole deal.
Well, a fairly big impediment to regular contact between the Milky Way and Andromeda is the centuries of travel required to traverse the distance. If we're using regular drives, a round trip would take something like 1100 years.
It's not exactly a one-way trip, but it would make going back and forth constantly a pretty impractical thing - if only because the other side would've changed significantly by the time you got there. Even using cryosleep, a trip to Andromeda and back again could mean everyone you've ever known is dead and centuries of galactic history has passed.

a trivial issue, easily surmounted
can't tell if sarcasm

I think the idea could be fun, but even I think it's really unlikely they'd do race choice. That's one of the big things I'm hoping isn't in 4, is multiple playable races. Pretty much sums up my view, no to multuple races, double no to widespread auto-dialogue.
The fear of ME3 autodialogue is the reason why I'll probably wait after release to buy the game, Regardless How much I'll be interested in the game.Pretty much sums up my view, no to multuple races, double no to widespread auto-dialogue.
Great. An ancient evil awakens, explore the remains of an ancient race, you are the Chosen One who must save humanity. Way to rehash ME1, Mac you hack. All it needs is Cerberus to make me pass on this.
Why can't we just be a bounty hunter, or a police officer, or an actual Spectre, since Shepard barely did any Spectre work? Combating terrorists or smugglers or the like? Why do we have to be the Savior of Humanity, especially after how bad Bioware dropped the ball the last time they did that.
The more I think about it, the more I am okay with this Andromeda-reboot for ME4. I think it is going to be a good, fresh start for Mass Effect.

Haven't some people noted the similarities between the Cerberus logo and this "Arkcon" symbol?

I don't really see any similarities, other than both using hexagons.
inb4 Arkon is a Cerberus project and one of our squadmates is a Mirand clone

That might not be as big of an issue for the colonists if the ship departs during the Reaper War. The colonists might have already lost most their immediate family and friends in the war. There might not be much left to miss.
