Yes, I've played both DA2 and DAI.
Oh I thought by pseudoMMO crap open world sequel you mean ME:N. Nevermind then.

Confined areas can be done well. It just becomes very character based (see DS9). I don't necessarily recommend Bioware doing that, but they could do it... characters are their strength.
After the ending to Mass Effect 3, I really don't care if they decide to distance themselves from it as much as possible.
And I'd only really be getting the next Mass Effect for the multiplayer, anyway. If the SP campaign is good, it'll be a bonus, but my expectations are extremely low after ME 3.
I see no upside for staying in the Milky Way other than petty nostalgia. The lore is pretty much depleted in the Milky Way, whatever new stuff the writers could come up with can be done in Andromeda without retcon/canon/homogenization.
You're stuck on this Andromeda thing. Let it go. You realize it's all based on some **** someone wrote on reddit and called it a "leak". Wait for an official announcement.

Conversely, people shouldn't be stuck on the Milky Way thing, either. Turn away and slam the door...

So? We are discussing theories and options here. The whole thread is dedicated to it. It doesn't matter if it's official or not at this point.

True. Personally, I don't care where the next game takes place as long as the series is recognizable and the events of the trilogy are not ignored.
I said it before. The main function of the Citadel is to help with the Harvest. The Cycle have been broken. So every other secret there is either nonessential or can be replicated in Andromeda.
And there is absolutely no other purpose it can serve.
Besides being a major trade hub
And controls the entire relay network
And is the seat of government for the Citadel Council
And possess technology still not understood to this very day
And has large sections of it that have never been explored
Other than that it's a completely bland, flavorless area that serves no purpose ![]()
Besides being a major trade hub
Wow so interesting ![]()
And controls the entire relay network
So? What possible plot that could lead to? They open a dormant relay and let something through like the Rachni just worst? Yeah totally can't be done in Andromeda...
And is the seat of government for the Citadel Council
Yet again, so? You want a political game now?
And has large sections of it that have never been explored
Yeah let's make a game about exploring the Keeper tunnels. Definitely much more interesting than a new galaxy...
If they announced the next ME game would be set on the Citadel, people would riot....because it's exactly the opposite of what fans asked for. Fans ASKED to go somewhere new. The Citadel is not somewhere new. In theory I could make a City based adventure set in the Citadel....but Bioware tried that, it was called DA2, and people complained about being stuck in a city. In fact fans have been the driving force behind this "Exploration" kick Bioware appears to be on. So I can't fault them for finding ways to give fans what they asked for in the next game. The citadel would work as a setting in a game set before ME 3, preferably before ME 1, and likely it should play along the lines of Deus Ex. However, fans don't want to go back, they want to go forward, they want to go somewhere new and they do not want to be another Shepard. The Andromeda storyline is Plausible because it fulfills these requirements without forcing a canon storyline on past actions, and considering the negative reaction the fandom has had to Udina being Earth's Council Rep, and Leliana being alive no matter what you did in DA:O I would not be surprised if that was a deciding factor in going the Andromeda route.
Anything even remotely involving the citadel and all that implies for a start.
Going to Andromeda abandons everything that has been built up before. You might as well just have completely new species there with their own culture and history (as you've left all that behind) and be done with it.
Actually, if you bring along various races with you along with their tech and history then you are not in fact abandoning everything that's been built up. You are just using that history to found a colony.
This was my post - a response to what can be done only in the milky way.
As has been pointed out the citadel is not just a space station but also the seat of galactic government and everything that entails.
Having a story that involves the citadel along with everything else that goes with it including the history and flavour to the mass effect universe - even if you only briefly visit - is impossible in Andromeda.

Ehhhh, not really. People cling to what they know. So a council on the Citadel means a council on the ark ship, or something extremely similar.

The complaints about DA2 were that nothing Hawke did had any substantive affect on... anything. You spend the better part of a decade there and your options don't do sh*t to affect the outcome or change anything (hey kinda like the complaints about another game's ending!) And the reason why people kept calling fro "exploration" was there was exactly one cave design, one house layout, and one warehouse in the entire freaking game. With certain doorways blocked off to "change" the layout. If the Citadel had unique maps, some optional areas to explore, and not be the same map over and over, then yeah, it could work a lot better than Krikwall
I think the fact that this thread has gone on for over forty pages just at the rumor of an Andromeda setting shows that no, not all fans are on board with the idea of relocating to another galaxy. That this may in fact sharply divide the potential audience (yet again). You don't have to run away from the galaxy to "go forward"

No matter what they do, though, the audience will be sharply divided.
Canonize an ending? Sharply divided.
Move to Andromeda? Sharply divided.
Homogenize the endings? Make IT-light? Retcon the endings? Isolated story in the Milky Way with no connection to prior story (aka replace Andromeda with Milky Way)? Sharply divided. Bring Shep back? Divided. Dont? Divided. Prequel? Divided. Midiquel? Divided. Sidequel? Divided. Alternate universe reboot? Divided.
I'm not sure what that says- they either wrote such a good story and engrossing and immersive setting that everyone feels that their version of what they think Mass Effect should be is right...or they royally screwed up and irreversibly divided the fan base with the endings, further dividing them with any sub par choice they are forced to make.
Right, which is why they should be allowed to be creative and do whatever they want at the end of the day. Fan service should only go so far, surprise me!

HAHAHAHAHA.
It's been like 5 people arguing for 40 pages.
Don't kid yourself.

Working better than Kirkwall, does not equal "Next Phase in the Mass Effect series", and it still wouldn't fulfill the request to go somewhere new. The Citadel might have areas we haven't gone to in person, but it's still The Citadel a place we've visited in all the past games.

Pinecone is right. A small group of fans, as is found on this thread, arguing repeatedly about the current information is not proof of widespread disapproval.

And there is no place "new" in the entire galaxy go go? It has to be someplace that current Mass Effect technology is nowhere near reaching? Do we have to go someplace it would break the lore yet again to reach in order to not be someplace "tired and boring"?

Yeah and ME3's endings were widely enjoyed too ![]()

Not one with as much potential as Andromeda. Andromeda is a totally new galaxy that if managed right could easily accommodate another trilogy and beyond. As for breaking the Lore, claiming there's no way we could reach another Galaxy is rather silly when you realize how much Tech has already changed just in the time period we saw during the Shepard Trilogy. Most of the advancements we saw dealt with weapons, which made sense as we were soldiers. I mean there's nothing in the Lore of ME 1 that says you can bring a person back from the dead, yet here we are.
Yeah and ME3's endings were widely enjoyed too
Attempting to laugh this off doesn't make your initial statement true by any means. BSN is kind of an echo chamber, with the same group of people arguing about a given aspect over and over again. I mean the people who are against the Andromeda Galaxy in this thread are pretty much the exact same people who were arguing against it since this information dropped. Other people have pointed out that the leak has been more warmly received on other forums. Heck looking back at the Casey Hudson thread where they ask for fan ideas, the very first one presented suggests going to the Andromeda galaxy. So no, this thread, heck this entire forum can not be used as proof that the idea will fail with the majority of fans. BSN is far too reactionary and combative to serve as a barometer for that kind of thing.

I don't see any echo chamber. Most people who are opposed to this idea get shot down. Or just lazy and don't care enough (like me). While Iakus is left standing by himself most of the time.

I'm totally open to the possibility that there are people out there who don't like the idea of moving to Andromeda.
But using the length of this thread as evidence that there's been a huge debate about it is pretty ridiculous. If you went back and counted there are probably fewer than ten people who have a significant post count in this thread, and only about five or six of them would make up a majority of the posts.
The BSN is an echo chamber, especially at times like this when it's been years since a game was released and it'll be a long time before the next one.

If it is an echo chamber, then I see widespread support. To the point where I don't know what to say anymore. Seems like a done deal.
