Isn't it more rewarding if you spend more time on those paths and have more such decisions? Assuming meaningful activity, of course, not filler content.

I have very little time for games myself, more money than time, but I don't mind longer games. My backlog on the other hand is a damn unfix-able mess.

Not for me. I like to change it up every now and than by doing a speedrun while still getting the best ending.

Would you be upset if your speedrun took, say, 8 hours instead of 3?

No. I can make the game as long as I want.

Then what's the problem with longer games? Unless I misunderstood your post

I never said I have a problem with longer games. I tend to do speedruns to mix things up.

So... How about a short optional intro with Shepard?

I don't particularly care for Shepard. I care about everything else that is there, the established civilisations with their history an culture; Asari temples, Turian dreadnoughts, Salarian STG operatives, Krogan poets...

Not if it's tedious padding that you don't enjoy. The problem is that is quite subjective. I considered quite a bit of ME1, DAI, and almost all of Oblivion as tedious for example.

First time I see someone saying that game being lengthy is something negative.

Assuming that it isn't filler content as you said, there are still things to consider like does the combat system hold up over that length, the pacing of the narrative, wherever those resources could have been better spent on divergent content in a RPG, or wherever it would have been better to consolidate around a shorter but more polished, meatier experience.

ME1 is tedious, at least on Insanity. Almost every target becomes a bullet-sponge (especially mercs with their Immunity spam). And it is actually quite short. I think Mike managed to beat it in a little more than 3 hours. Haven't played the other two games.

Fair point. I just didn't hear people mentioning longevity of the games as something negative. Take Skyrim, for example. Main quest is quite short but you can easily lose yourself playing it and go way over 100 hours without even touching the main quest. And that aspect of the game is praised.

ME1's main quest is very short. I believe someone completed it in less than an hour, when I played without rushing but without doing everything it was a 7-10 hour game. The game has the potential to be quite long if you do all the crappy collection quests and drive to all the anomalies. This does raise the question about whether the game should have been been shorter and more focused, I definitely believe so.

As for the second part, I realise you weren't replying to me but I feel compelled to comment. I can't comment specifically on skyrim because I have never played it, but I played both Morrowind and Oblivion and hated both of them for that very reason. I am aware a lot of people seem to like this sort of stuff, but to say no one complains about that is false. I hate it and am just not interested in even trying anymore of their games. I would be interested to know what percentage of people actually finish an elder scroll game, I suspect it is quite low.

For sure, ME1 has great atmosphere and the main quest has good pacing but it's also a very empty game. ME2 was superior in this regard even though the main quest wasn't as "grand". 3 had a nice balance of both, just that ending lets it down comparatively.

Someone should really delete the Milky Way and open a new word doc.

Any shorter and you're delving into the realm of CoD games :D Seriously though, ME1 could've used more character interactions, more meaningful side quests, less recycled environments, faster-paced gameplay etc. And Bioware did address those issues in ME2 (while introducing new ones) ;)

Of course, there are people who don't like such games. I'm not saying everyone enjoys them, just that it is mentioned as one of the best things about TES games. If you don't like that sort of content than I guess TES games are not for you, nothing bad about it.

As for finishing the games, you'd probably be surprised. I'd put it at about the same number as for people who've finished Mass Effect. I always found it puzzling, but less than a half of the players manages to complete the games.

Yeah, well, I imagine a sort of wrap-up / lead-in. With Shepard or not depending on your choice. The point being to spend an hour in the familiar setting, with as much of it as possible before moving on.

To bridge the gap as it were.

I propose this under the assumption that the move to Andromeda is inevitable.

1 hour? Impressive. Was the person on pc?  As much as I like to finish the game in that time, I don't see how that is possible

Probably with an exploit. Speedrun records are rarely clean.

Yes, PC. There is a video recorded live of a 1 hr 38 min run up here (I only watched a bit)

I think there was a faster run posted previously with cutscene skipping enabled but I may be wrong. Either way, it is still a very short main mission.

My fastest time, playing on the ps3, was about 3 hours 28 minutes

I'm getting fired up for a new trilogy run myself. Think it's time for a sentinel.

For some reason my Xbox 360 freezes whenever I put a Mass Effect 3 game in. The only game it does it for.

Which is sad because I am one achievement away from 100%, leaving it the only Bioware game which isn't.  :crying:
