Fortification evo 4b says "melee damage bonus 30% when armor is purged". What constitutes purging? How do I activate this bonus?
Fortification melee damage boost - how does it work?

Like Detonating Tech Armor...De-Activate Fortification...this charges up his gauntlets..then Melee ..Not an over the top damage booster ..but I have saved a few people from Banshee/Praetorian sync's using this method. I have seen a video of an All-Melee Geth Soldier doing this constantly..It was very impressive.

Ah, thought so, but wasn't sure. Is it one-time bonus, i. e. dissipating when you melee?

If I'm not mistaken, it's 20 seconds.

One time use as for what I can remember.By the time you De-activate..then Melee, you can re-activate it right away. I dont know how long the bonus hangs around once you de-activate Fortification...Again just try doing it like Tech Armor...De-Activate--melee---re-activate--melee..I do remember doing this on Dagger against Reapers, I was Golfing Husks deep into the desert.

Thanks. Bottom line - you have to keep toggling it to have the bonus, that's what I needed to hear to lose interest in this evo.

The Krogan Sentinel may be more to your liking then. Only slightly less melee power but you get more Damage Reduction and don't have to toggle anything.

Remember though you don't just get 30% damage from purging you get an extra 100% (assuming you take 4b, otherwise 70%)
This adds just over 1000 damage in total to your heavy melee (about 400 to light) according to kalence, well worth it if you ask me compared to an extra 5% damage reduction, which is only ~3.5% out of cover anyway.
Its a little annoying at first, but once you get used to it its not really any different than having constantly having to activate tactical cloak.

This. It's annoying to keep purging Fortification, especially when you don't have any visual indicator when the damage wears off.

KroSol does about 500 melee damage more than KroSent and has a better choice of skipping 5% DR for 30% melee damage instead of skipping 30% power damage for 40% melee damage the KroSent has.
But with the advent of Shotgun omni-blade the melee damage differences become sort-of irrelevant (although it does help the Soldier more since the bonus is multiplicative)

It's reliable and also poses a risk too. Melee over durability. Not sure if it gets reset if you decided to slap on Fortification after purging it.

You get the damage bonus if you cast Fortification back right after purging it.

It's a stupid mechanic.
At least you don't lose the boost when you reactivate it. And no, multiple purges do not stack. That would have been effing cool. As it is...
... it's a stupid mechanic.

That and tech armor detonation being an occasional life saver, as well as swarmed killer.

While we're on topic of Krogan Soldier: does DOT from multiple Inferno Grenades stack?
P. S. That's right, I didn't spec out of grenades this time, woohoo!
