I know this is just an early prototype but don't you think this looks more like Andromeda instead of the Milky Way Galaxy?

No idea but it looks like there's something huge in the middle like a pulsar or maybe it's a quasar...well, quasar would make less sense from that vantage point so...I dunno but it's pretty :D

Considering that it is on a galactic scale, if you are referring to what I think you are it may be a supernova or even a hypernova.

A pulsar is not a huge object.  A pulsar is a *TINY* object.  A pulsar is, on average, ten kilometers across.  Even the supernova remnant nebula that surrounds some pulsars isn't going to be visible on the scale of a galaxy.

Oh, I was under the impression they could be any size but I guess I'm wrong haha.

If we get Dukat and Weyoun as part time enemies, the game will be so awesome!

I do hope that leak is false.

What's the point of making this into Mass Effect game WITHOUT even being in Milky Way?!

What the hell is with Bioware and despising it's old works in new games?

Yeah, when this image came out long ago, myself and others pointed out that it was NOT the Milky Way. It clearly isn't, despite being an early concept, for a number of reasons that dont bear repeating here since there is an entire thread devoted to that topic.

While it is not the Milky Way, it may or may not be Andromeda. It does superficially resemble Andromeda, and it does resemble a spiral galaxy much, much more than a star cluster, a nebula, or anything else. Anyone even remotely familiar with real world astronomy can list the reasons why. So, I do believe it is a very early version of a new galaxy map, with Andromeda making the most sense as it is the closest spiral galaxy to our own. The final version will probably look a lot different, more refined, and IF it is Andromeda it will likely more closely resemble it.

That said, if it is true that the entire game takes place in a single star cluster then there is really no reason for an entire galaxy map.

Also, this image was what basically allowed us to formulate Ark Theory back in the day. I think these forums and Reddit simultaneously and independently came up with the idea at exactly the same time. Again, because its so predictable.

Question is: What makes you so attached to the milky way Bioware can't put into Andromeda as well? Our fleet will be as big as it needs to be for us to feel MEish. And still we have an unknown galaxy left to explore without all the limitations from ME3's endings.

aren't humans from Milkyway? isn't Mass Effect human centric? if our focus is Andromeda now... then what is the history of Humans in that installment then? will this confirm my Restart theory Kabooom?

Humans colonizing this new galaxy along with other species.

For what purpose? what about their own galaxy? wouldn't that make them squatters?

As long as proper reasons are given for humanity and other races to be there I'm fine with the new galaxy.

If no answer is provided then you should draw the conclusion that the original trilogy doesn't exist and it a parallel universe.

Because in Milky Way, we have a lot of our old places and species to revisit even for a short time. And there's still a ton of Milky Way unexplored. Note, not even 1% of Milky Way is explored in ME universe.

Moving away to next galaxy is such a unnecessary move unless you want to cut off ALL TIES from previous games, books and comics.

It might as well be a new IP by this point.

Perhaps because of the Reaper invasion. In case they might lose the war, they send people to another galaxy so that the species can survive. From there they have to colonize and etc.

This is the most obvious reason, yes.

Something that not many people seem to be thinking about is the motivation of the developers. It's all well and good for some fans to say they want to stick around in the Milky Way, but would the devs?

This is Montreal's first time in charge of a game, ever, and it's their best chance to take the series in a completely new direction while Edmonton works on the new IP for the next however many years. They can't do that if fans expect to visit the same places again and again and again. If people were paying attention around the time when the Citadel DLC launched, you would've noticed how final everything seemed. I reckon it's clear in hindsight that it was the last time we'd be seeing the Citadel and Shepard's squadmates, because Edmonton was leaving it all behind.

Even apart from the very good reasons why they should stay clear of the Milky Way, like how it's impossible to account for all the ending choices, Andromeda gives them a completely new slate that preserves a lot of the core of Mass Effect - the technology, the races and the history.

So no, it might not be "necessary", but it might be what they want to do.

Fair enough. This is an implicit admission though that they messed up the original storyline with the endings though...and that it didn't ended as they intended.

There is no harm in admitting that. I love ME and can forgive them loads of thing.
