I only like the mage cowl, ardent blossom and Dread. I do like Vivienne's homage to Maleficent - but only on her. Needless to say I hide all the helmets. I especially hate the Venatori helmets and any of the Orleasian ones.
Does BioWare Hate Cool Helmets or Something?

I'm not really sure what people expect of the aesthetic of helmets in this kind of setting. Helmets from the actual medieval period were not particularly good-looking.

I kind of like the "Cowl of the Overseer". It has a nice "official" and "classy" touch. Sadly the stats are crap and there is no schematic for it.

I've never seen so much blasphemy in one sentence.

I think the concept art is fantastic. If they just gave us a smattering of open-faced and full helmets from the concept art and a few different types of hoods, I would be placated

Actually there is. It's called Overseer Cowl and it is in my Lavellans armor crafting inventory. No idea where she got it from and she refuses to spill the beans. :C I think it's randomly generated. (My male Lavellan has one as well, he dresses Dorian with it.)
I like the Carta helmet, the Hat of the Inquisitor, the masks, the hoods, the foppish Adventurers hat, the Orlesian helmet, the elven cowls, the seer hat and the tea party hat. And the Ardent blossom, but I'd really like a schematic for my flower children. And the venetori helmet is rather wicked. And the free marchers helmet is pretty spacy. And the warden helmet is kind of cute. I pretty much dig 90% of the Inquisitions head gear.
I also took a secret liking to the weird mage hats in Origins. (And there was an Orlesian armor mod for DA2, the masks there were gorgeous.) And the chantry cowl was pretty. Not very practical, but pretty.

Definitely need some cool helms for the next game.
I got some ideas, let's throw it out and see if the cat licks it up.

Okay, I'd just like to take a moment to address some of the points I've seen in this thread.
1) OP, I think Dorian still looks fantastic and I didn't think anyone could make that hat look good*.
2) To the person who mentioned something about 'Solas and Hats,' may I point you to the visual nightmare that is Halamshiral? Hats that clip through your face and are apparently part of your super-secret sophisticated persona are not attractive**.
3) DAO hats are great! How else are you supposed to stick it to those uppity mage fellows with their glowing spirit fingers***?!
*In all fairness, that's probably getting close to my favorite hat out of the new 'ugly hat' bunch. Needs more plaideweave.
**And to think I had to replay Halamshiral and Adamant just so I could get that scene with that lamentable hat malfunction. The hat might not be hideous...you just can't see it because it's in his face.
***More ugly clothes for mages, please. ![]()

@OP
I'd say they hate cool helmets as much as they hate good hair styles, I mean, just how many versions of the buzz cut do you really need? lol

Okay, there's two buzzcuts and one half-balding hairstyle, for straight hair.
The rest (last few in the slider) is actually all afro-textured variants, for which I am quite thankful because I'd rather not have my Inquisitor look like James Brown**. And yes, there is very well visual differences, even in hair shorter than 3mm. There's even barber shops specializing in just fancy buzz cuts.
Not trying to be that guy, just clearing up on that old argument. I even agree that especially for females, there's barely any feminine looking long hairstyle.
**I mean, obviously I do. Everybody does. Just not all the time.

I liked the helmet Sigrun had in Awakening.

This made me giggle. It just is ugly to my aesthetic sensibilities - I have a tendency to craft my armor for looks more than anything and will blatantly coordinate my whole team to wear purple or mint green or whatever. I can't even with that pointy horn in the front. That said, I will always equip someone with it because it is a decent helmet. But I certainly don't want to look at it.

I like the scout hat for my mages, and cowls. But those floppy hats are totally not lore friendly and look ridiculous. ![]()

What did you expect? This is Bioware. They are the market leader in utterly stupid-looking helmets/hats since 1998. At least they acknowledge that fact themselves and have a anti-helmet toggle in most of their games.

Bioware should rename themselves to the Ministry of Silly Hats

It's looted from the Tevinter spellbinder at Griffon Wing Keep. I don't know if it's random or not, but I've always gotten it every time I killed him.

I would argue that most of the plate helmets in DA:O were pretty good, or at least passable, it was just everything else that wasn't massive armor was terrible.
I thought the massive armors were the worst of the lot in DA:O. They were far too bulky and oversized. I prefer more realistic proportions.
I think both Cassandra & Blackwall had better looking armor in DA:I than anything in DA:O.

I agree. The pauldrons on the heavy armors in DA:O were especially ridiculous. I thought that this was a big step in the right direction. For all of Origins' strengths, armor design was certainly not one of them.

Origins had both of my pet peeves about armor in fantasy RPGs. Besides the massively oversized pauldrons it also had bikini armor.
I agree that DA:I is mostly a step up, despite the lack of quality helmets.
