Yeah it's good straight up and mixed, and it's usually cheaper than Jim. You can Google reviews if you want, it's pretty consistently highly rated, and it's a big seller too, but somehow it's something that most have never heard of if they haven't tried it.
Its one of my favorites also along with Buffalo Trace, Woodford Res double oaked, Larceny, Elijah C 12yr and 1792 small batch

Because I used to drink beer up until that point but figured out it didn't agree with me so I started broadening my horizons. At the time that meant Mad Dog, because it was just as cheap as beer. I clearly remember Dave introducing me to Old Granddad that he had stashed away at Patricia's house, showing me the label, and telling me it would knock me on my ass.
Considering that I went on to drink Jim Beam and Coke from that point on and can remember those nights, I can only conclude that Old Granddad is better than all of those.

A bottle of 20/20, and Super Street Fighter II on SNES. Good times!
All I had to do was jump straight up and down with Chun Li Roundhouse Kick and I was unstoppable.

I like how your story had Dave and Patricia. Like I should know these people
Those aren't the people I played Street Fighter II with, that was Chris and Joe.

Not at all
Old Granddad bourbon is one of the cheapest bourbons you can buy and is popular in bars. It is also a top selling bourbon etc but it doesnt win any medals unless you buy one of their small batch or cask strength versions. If youre satisfied with it keep drinking it. The ones I named are highly regarded and have won medals in numerous Medal competitons blind taste testing recently(in the last 3yrs) Check them out, it might change your palette for bourbons

Evan Williams Single Barrel is good. All the brands I listed have on hand right now and drink from anyone of them almost eveyday, so I know what they all taste like
If your talking bourbons nowadays, youre talking about 15-20 or so that have all won numerous competitions in the last 3 yrs or so that most reviewers can all agree on. Prices range from 29USD to about 50USD. After that you get into the craft stuff and small vintages etc that run up to 250-300USD per bottle/ Almost all bourbons are held up(whether you agree or not) to Pappy Van Winkle stuff. So what the distillers are doing is trying to copy that for a cheaper price since the black market for Pappy can run up in the 20kUSD for something that costs only 40USD

Evan Williams > Jim Beam
I need to apologize to you all, I realize what I actually many to say was Evan Williams > Jack Daniels, not Jim Beam.

Jim Beam made me throw up and then black out every single time I drank it.
After a year of that, going back to Mad Dog 20/20 didn't seem such a bad idea after all. But by then I was 16 and my family moved and I lost all my alcohol buying buddies.

This is probably heresy, but the best alcohol I ever had was a wine. Somebody went hard for Christmas last year and got me a bottle of Valpolicella Ripasso.
I wouldn't call myself "competent" when it comes to wine snobbery, but I waited tables long enough to get a crash course. Most anything in the cabinet is fair game for any friends and guests of age, but not that one.
Bene/10 would sip again.

Cabernet Sauvignon is pretty good. When you get to be my age you want something smooth that won't burn on its way back up.

Definitely my favorite red. I'm also partial to Malbec.
I know nothing of white wines, partially because "people who could teach me things about white wines" doesn't have much overlap with "people I want (or can afford) to keep company with." At that point, I'm much happier pretending to know things about whiskey.
