Is it with or without all the gear and promotions? Your misinterpreting my statements in regards to the class. He was never bad before but in grand scheme of things, he is still weak to ranged units unless cunning is up the wazoo, since guard gets shredded in perilous.
That's if you let yourself get hit. All warrior + melee classes are gear dependent, with lego being the least among them. Perilous is literally Perilous to new players. That said, I've done perilous on a fresh account (few/no promotes) with common gear, and while it really sucks, it is playable (though not solo-able without better gear). Threatening is more or less solo-able without HoK + with high level common gear / mid level uniques.
Use cover, aggro mechanics, enemy weapon timing. Charge, KD, auto-attack, mighty blow as they try to get up, KD again. Enemies don't get up.
If at enemy range, strafe, juke left and right while moving, to dodge arrows if you don't have cover. You won't dodge everything all the time, but even if you dodge only one arrow, it is worth practicing. Horror spikes & enemy power shots at closer range take a bit more practice & timing involved.
Arrows can't hurt you if you don't get hit.
He was pretty bad before. I'm not going to lie and say he was easy. He was not. He still isn't easy on perilous compared ez-mode chars. On Routine and Threatening though? It is a lot more accessible for the vast majority of players.
You're still welcome to play if you're on the same platform. I can demonstrate that the Katari *can* be played better for everyone that learns to, and he's not as weak as you may perceive. He is very skill dependent, and more often than not it is the player that's weak when the Katari is dead. Also, lag and stairs. Those kill all melee characters though.
