Developers really don't get that what might get gamers to try a game is not the same thing as what gets gamers to keep playing. Particularly when we're dealing with a cash shop.

But really, IMO, the problem with this game based on everything I've read is how much it requires everyone to already be good at it to be fun. Take CS as a counter-example. You could be complete trash in that game as a player and while notionally it was PVP a good player could solo the whole thing, and poor players usually just meant a bump in your kill ratio.

Anyway, since this game needs everyone to be good at it to be fun - and since gamers tend to be anti-social psychos in the competitive PvP scheme when losing is actually and clearly someone else's fault because they suck at the game - I'd wager it's hard to draw people in and/or keep them if they suck at it.

Shallow game by an even shallower dev. When you charge 60 bucks for a coop FPS then you charge another 75 dollar worth of DLC so you can have the "complete" version.... Well.... duh, gamers are dumb but not that dumb.

Sounds like you been blamed somewhat for a loss. I been there. I played the creature. Before the game they were talking about how they crushed these other people, how great it was to play with them again, laughing and joking. Then I quietly played the creature. (This is in beta) I charged at them then used my fire when I was stuck, repeating doing that. Killed them all in a short time. They were instantly fighting on mic about who didn't do their job.

It wasn't really anyone's fault. I just happen to nail them with my charges. They had to blame someone so these friends were now fighting. And also the DLC I think is the main point for me. Charging for every little DLC you could imagine. Even with all that. I'm still surprised to see the game fail so hard. The graphics are really polished. So is the combat system. It does get boring after a while and combined with the over priced content. Still 25k to under 1k. That's gotta be a record or something.

Similar to Titanfall. Awesome concepts but lacking in sheer content.

As of this moment 914 are playing the game this is with the weekend contest. If they manage do complete it they get free gear. What happens at this stage. Who's money did they burn through. Do they just go free to play as last hope for saving the game or are they going to majorly discount the game. I just don't think they can keep going at least on steam PC at this rate.

I'm not sure if counts xbox one and PS4 users. 914 for a game that barely a month old. I'm glad I didn't spend a hundred dollars.

Beats me. I never played it. I didn't like how they forgot to add a Sniper class(The medic doesn't count because it wasn't a heavy hitting Sniper round.) which had a .50 or .338 lapua magnum sized round which would seriously hurt the monster.

DLC sounds mostly cosmetic, so most players probably wouldn't care.

Guessing the fun factor is just not there with PUG groups and the caliber of enemy. The devs probably figured the player base would take the time to self-organize. They probably overestimated the effort players were willing to put in to have a positive experience.

^But charging for a mere blue colored gun is downright petty when you can get some very cheap indie games at the same price. Had the game been free-to-play, charging microtransactions might make some sense. But Evolve is a full priced game and putting in annoying micro-tid-bits is more akin to cash grabbing than offering options.

the fact it was a one play game that you got bored with quick. more diversity would have been fun. like killing some Kiju sized beasts ect maybe a diverse customization. but i don't know.

Could you detail why this game sucks exactly. The graphics were pretty good. I played it in beta. The game play was intense and fast paced. What went wrong.

I haven't played the game, so fairly - I do not know. But I saw no reason as I could not see anything interesting going on.

And I suspect you actually nail it pretty good: Good graphics, intense and fast paced gameplay. The market is full of drivel like that, and has been for a very long time. Since publishers, marketing dudes and game design consultants believe video games should be like that. "Fun" (supposedly). Problem is that if there is nothing interesting, then everything is always just painfully tiresome work. Even if it's supposed to be "fun". I expect to be paid money for that. Big money. Not to pay.

Hype.

Pretty much this for me. When I first played it I was shocked at just how many times I asked myself "Is this really it?" It wasn't bad exactly, but not nearly as good as i was expecting.

Recent times have proven why it's a bad idea to board the hype train.

~200€ is too much for a content starved FPS.

Even a toddler would see that.

That Angry Joe review  Says pretty much everything what's wrong with the game. Too much price with too little content.

I had 2 people on my friend list who played this game. I saw them play it for about 2 weeks and after that they never played it. If the game had been free to play it would've definitely been worth trying out. But with full game price and bunch of "forced" dlc, nope, not worth it.

The more I learn about Evolve the more stunned I am, that the industry is that brain dead.

It's not exactly symptomatic about everything that is wrong with the state of gaming. Because it's not all old ideas.

But it does fail, in expecting us to just repetitively kill and kill and kill, while socializing and buying dlc, and be happy with that.

Why? How could the industry ever get into its collective head, that this is the opportunity for videogaming?

- Thank God, DA:I isn't only about that. (Not that I don't suspect some EA suit may have insisted that'd be good enough. The combat system and MP dlc stink suspiciously).

I think some higher up execs forgot what the hell the gamer perspective is.

You can do everything in your power to make money but if it comes at the expense of the gamer you won't be making a profit. Thats assuming gamers are smart enough not to buy in at their own trouble.

We are a dying breed... the new generation of gamers (mostly casuals) have never heard of good old games and will never try them because they like grand graphics and cool'n'easy gameplay, nothing more.

The gaming companies have realized this tendency and changed their gaming focus for a few years.

Ah.. and remember that Mass Effect 1 doesn't have many DLCs.

That doesn't seem like a much of a point though. Plenty of games only have a couple DLCs.

ME1 had Bring Down The Sky(which was good) and Pinnacle Station(that wasn't). But there aren't a ton of games with a million or so DLCs.
