Just a heads-up: could mean nothing, but BioWare's Aaryn Flynn posted a science-y reply in the leak-related thread on GAF.

Here's the interesting exchange:

Maybe not. From http://genetics.thet...org/ask/ask113:

"Conclusions. As you can see, this is a tough number to figure out. It all depends on the founders' genes. Too many "bad" genes with too few founders and you end up with a sickly group that probably won't survive. If you increase the number of people or decrease the number of "bad" genes, the group's chances go way up.

So, given the average number of bad genes in people, 160 is about the right number to give a good chance for survival. We'll have to build a pretty good-sized space ship to colonize another planet!

(Or maybe 70...a recent study at http://www.livescien...._settlers.html suggests that North America may have been settled by only 70 people!)"

More here - http://en.wikipedia....ce_colonization

If a moderator decides this isn't worth its own thread then I'll understand the deletion. But I weighed the decision and came to the conclusion that it's worth it to draw fresh attention to the subject, given that as far as I know it's the first and only case of anyone from the company engaging anything leak-related publicly as of yet. Yes, technically Mr. Flynn isn't saying a thing either way on the leak itself. I'm not trying to say he is. But he did take the time to offer his stance on how an ark ship could function in a thread specifically dedicated to the alleged leak, and I very firmly believe that's worth discussing.

I wouldn't take it as confirmation of the leak, for all we know the he could be partaking in friendly discussion.

Dev talking about ark ship concept =/= Ark theory confirmed.

Yeah, hence my words in the paragraph beneath the quotes. :) I still felt it was well worth bringing up. I'm not 100% confident I made the right decision in starting a brand new thread over the matter, but yeah.

At the very least it shows they are following the leak discussion closely.

This is not good.

You guys may as well accept that it is real now.

It will save some meltdowns later.

Yeah. Sounds like he is subtly hinting the leak is accurate by disproving a possible argument against an ark ship.

He's right though, about the number of people I mean. Especially given that in the ME universe, genetics is fairly advanced, the right people can be chosen or even genetically enhanced for the journey.

I think the leak is genuine, but I wouldn't read too much into what Aaryn is saying. Just being a bit mischievous. I suspect the devs are enjoying this, I don't think the leak has hurt at all.

It has hurt. Literally every positive though I had for the game is gone. My hope of it being fake is slowly being dashed by the devs "just being a bit mischievous" and "enjoying this".

Definitely means something.

Whether it's confirmation or further leading folks down the wrong path remains to be seen, but they're obviously keeping an eye on the response to the leak.

I would like to think the reason he's doing this is that he knows it's all nonsense as feels free to joke around because of that.

How many generations would it take for a few hundred to grow to a population needed to sustain the inevitable setting of cities and outlaws and armies and whatnot? Dozens? How many hundreds of years would it take?

If the setting is both in another galaxy and hundreds of years after ME 3, its a safe bet that that they aren't even going to bother trying to flesh out the state of the Milky Way or any of the characters or events of the previous trilogy.

Please tell me BioWare is not this dumb...

I agree it shows they are watching it, but even then I wouldn't take it as conformation or denial since he did neither.

This is an interesting point. Because if they do set it, say, 1000 years in the future, then I'd expect technology to have developed a lot further, to a point where we'd no longer recognize it (which it apparently has not, given what we've seen on concept art so far). But then, the ME universe is know to play it fairly loose with time frames for tech development. I mean, the Asari were around for at least 2000 years without making one single significant advancement and the humans developed all their stuff in 30 years, so who knows.

I certainly hope they don't go down the Star Wars route, where civilizations just do not develop at all but given the track record, iI am not ruling anything out these days.

BioWare can either:

A ) Canonize an ending and hope to build a satisfying sequel off that

B ) Actually go forward with IT (or steal it depending on your leanings on it) and make an actually satisfying conclusion for the series

C ) Decide the endings fucked up the galaxy so much, and were so wildly varied that they're just gonna give up and go to an entirely new galaxy

If you know me you know which option I'd prefer, but either A or B are good. If they go for C it will just be embarrassing.
