Since many people are seriously irritated by the relatively small number of hotkeys you can use and assign for abilities, here is a small and simple fix for the PC version, which should be easy to do and would please a lot of people:

Introduce a small button next to the ability bar at the bottom of the screen (to see the bar if you don't know what I mean click here: https://eaassets01-a...ctical-view.jpg)

  • If you click on this button, the ability bar switches to the ability slots 9-16, if you click it again the bar switches back to 1-8.
  • The additional 8 ability slots don't have hotkeys assigned in the beginning, but can be assigned their own hotkeys through the menu (just like with the current 8 ability slots).
  • For the additional hotkeys, modifiers, like ALT on the keyboard, should be allowed (e.g. ALT + E as a hotkey for an ability on ability slot 9).

For multiplayer, the additional ability bar can be simply deactivated if necessary.

Please Bioware, this shouldn't be hard to do. I'm so tired of having to limit myself to 8 abilities and often it's just 1, 2 or 3 more abilities I would like to use, so one additional bar is more than enough.

The 8 slot limit isn't a GUI issue, it's a design issue - they wanted it that way. They could easily fill the bottom of the screen with ability slots, like they have previously.

You are probably right, but I still want to bring it up. There are so many complaints about this, maybe they listen and add more slots in a patch, since it wouldn't be hard to do.

I also suggested a very simple way to fix the problem without much work involved, to make it more probable they will pick it up or think about it.

Its built that way to level the field for when they did the transfer to multi-player. They didn't want to make two seperate UIs so they did one and made it meh. If you open up the slots for 9 to 16 on the PC then you'd have a clear advantage over the consoles.

They should have kept the in-game wheels for skills/spells like they had in DA:O and ME. They were versatile and easy to use and also 100% present in the last Mass Effect title.

I agree, they could do this and it wouldn't impact on the 'action' gameplay, in fact swtor has exatly this.

Exactly. Unlimited abilities worked fine on PC and console for DA:O and DA:2. It could have worked in DA:I, but they didn't want it to and it won't be changed, unfortunately. But I hope they take this feedback into consideration for DA4.

Well, it is a s**t design.

Yes indeed.

I'm wondering if it's not the limitations of the engine, or at least their ability to manipulate it at this time.

I'm sure Frostbite 3 is powerful enough to put skills in the radial menu. I suppose they could be too inexperienced with it, but they managed to put other functions on the menu, so, I doubt it too.

What really kills it for me is that the AI wont even use all its abilities if they aren't in the 1-8 slots.  I'm really glad I found out about this before I bought the DLC cause I have zero interest in playing the game now.  This is just horridly stupid, lazy design.  So much so its almost insulting to the player when they find out about it.

I don't give a **** about the multiplayer. I want a fully enjoyable singleplayer experience, which doesn't make compromises in regards to GUI because of some half-arsed multiplayer mode which has been added as an afterthought and is just a cheap money grabbing tool.

Especially when it shouldn't be hard to do this and keep the singleplayer UI separate from the multiplayer UI.

I certainly won't buy anything from Bioware until this is changed. I have played their games since the original Baldur's Gate, but it seems they have lost their touch.

Sorry for the rant, I'm just so frustrated and disappointed because this game still has so much unused potential :(

Actually, there's a system that allows you to favorite powers learned by the AI run characters. It will allow them to cycle through powers based on how you favorite them. It's not much of a consolation but its there. I've had their various powers turned off and on to see just how many powers they will cycle through, ten so far is the maximum from my experience with the console version.

Just to clarify as this sounds rather misleading, you can tell your companions use, don't use, and spam. You cannot set them up to cycle through; they do that because the others on are cooldown or they ran out of mana. Also, this is the first I've heard that companions use skills not on their skill bar. I'm pretty sure it's a bug if it's happening.

yeah in my experience everyone just forgets anything not in that bar.  so basically you do not progress anymore.

For sake of multiplayer.  BECAUSE I PLAY BIOWARE GAMES FOR THE MULTIPLAYER.  NEXT DLC:  HATS.
