Hi folks and thankyou for your time.

1st question... does it matter where I install the game? Will patches find the right spot if I put the game on Drive E?

2nd question... how do I patch this? The auto-updater doesn't seem to work anymore. I have had a friend direct me to the list of patches but I just need to know exactly which one(s) I need to get the game and both expansions running.

thanks!

I install on F:
- a big drive with lots of free space, after a defrag and perhaps running a registry checker/cleaner
- staying away from C: or Program Files or the regular places could prevent some Permissions issues.

To update you're looking for the official patches that can be found on NeverwinterVault.org
- you should also find TNT220's standalone patching app there.

Don't forget Dx9.0c and, for the toolset, .NET 3.5 (windows usually has the latter already installed, but Dx9 needs to go in no matter what the current version of DirectX is - they coexist)

Suggested method of installation:
- install the OC + expansions one at a time, and run each for a minute before moving on to the next.
- before installing SoZ, copy VO_X1.zip from \Data someplace safe because SoZ will delete it and you'd need to patch it (file should be available on NeverwinterVault.org anyway - 333mb).
- uncopy VO_X1.zip back to \Data after installing SoZ. run game for a minute, make sure everything feels okay.

Update using TNT220's patcher.

do another defrag & start playin'

Ps. look for the thread on patching NwN2 in general forums,
/cheers

pps. final version is 1.23.1765

after installing game and expansions my NWN2 folder already has two patches in it. (One is in capitals and the other lower-case if that matters).

I have:

NWN2_PCX1_MODFIX_FROM100788_TO105912.rtp

and

nwn2_pcx2_modfix_x1_from 1101115_to1111152.rtp

those look like bare patches (unzipped), could be leftover from a failed patch process of some sort perhaps.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but tnt220's patcher wants zipped patch files in the installation directory (or even an external directory iirc).

.RTP files are unzipped patches -- i think they get deleted if a patch is successful. (lettercase doesn't matter on windowz)

Personally i would move them out of the way to a backup directory and rely instead on known good .ZIPs from the Vault ...

disclaimer: I haven't done patching in ages.

ps. in case you haven't figured this out, load up the game until you get to the main menu ( New Game | Load Game | Multiplayer | Options | etc )

Look in the lower left corner for the current version installed. Start patching by using patches at that version

I suspect you're past those versions above already.
