I know this probably seems like a shallow thing to want, but I had really looked forward to playing as a qunari in DA:I. The horns, especially, had excited me. And seeing the male qunari in DA:2 gave me a certain impression of what to expect when it came to hair (long, flowing, etc). I had really enjoyed the black emporium from Dragon Age II, and especially the large variety of hairstyles provided. Well.... loading in DA for the first time... I was really disappointed. And not just with the qunari (NO long flowing hairstyles), but also with the other races. I just feel there needs to be more options, and at least 1 longer for the qunari to resemble... well, qunari. What I came to know them as.
Beyond hair is the issue of hair color, particularly with black hair. It looks grey, or brown. There is no dark black option. And why give us the ability to customize the eyes with such color detail and not let us do the same for skin, or hair? It is very fun to do for everything else. ^^ Yeah, someone might make a silly purple dwarf with neon green hair, but it's up to them to enjoy the game their way. Besides, the way that multiplayer works it's not like it would ever impact other gamers. And also give us more options for make up, beyond just color (like you know how scars and tats you can select more than one? Do the same for eye shadow, blush, eyeliner, etc). Lastly, the eyelashes are probably the weakest part of the customization. I will talk about the strengths within the customization soon. The eyelashes are all very thin, they don't look like they are on the lid properly, and they just.... don't give a very decent variety. Ok, really long lashes would be fun. This is a FANTASY game after all. But beyond that, think of the CRAZY eyelashes out there that people could have fun with. I feel it could fit within some of the costuming in the universe for people who like to be silly. Rather than 5 or 6 options of "hey, we moved some of these barely noticeable lashes around". I personally am not the type of person to make silly characters, but I know some people like that. I personally would just like fuller lashes, more hair options, and more make up variety. ^^ My last little criticism would be that the heads of the humans all look sort of flat? And it's not something you can change. And also, there's no real body adjustment which is also something people enjoy a lot.
Ok ranting aside. WOW when it comes to customizing the shape of the face, you guys did amazing. By far the best I have seen from bioware so far. Not to mention that this was done with 4 different races. I literally spend hours playing around with it, which is probably why I get so frustrated when it comes to the limited hair, make up and eyelash options since they're pretty big elements when crafting a "look". There's very little hope for these things to be augmented with mods, since the game is difficult to modify. So, thus why I am ranting here in the forums. I guess transitioning from DA:2 with all those hair options I was expecting a similar thing. Maybe that is my bad. I think Bioware is certainly on the right track, and I noticed that the Black Emporium is returning for DA:I and I think that is awesome. I think in the future, however, you guys should consider not just adding more options like I said but also some body customization. I think ESO did this really well, but to be honest so did STO (especially the "alien" section for character creation, side note suggestion for an upcoming sci fi game *wink wink*). I really suggest you check out how they made the customization options so exceptionally vast for a game that is so very on the lower end of the scale when it comes to graphics. ^^
Thanks bioware for your incredible work. Can't wait to see what you do next. ![]()
