Wow. Level 30? They are 3 levels above the level cap. I would suggest bringing Blackwall. And give him a could resistant tonic. Cole for sheer DPS and hide in stealth. Solas to weaken them so they deal less damage. As for the fight. I noticed Mark of the rift Freeze enemies solid. So use it and then throw everything you get. Solas fire storm, Grenades like jark of bees. That's the best I can think of.
Edit: Oh, and make sure to have dispel to instantly get rid of their ridiculously high barrier.

I'm trying it right now.
Anyways, it's kinda fitting that you're getting destroyed by seemingly unbeatable Despair Demons. I would have also appreciated getting my butt handed to me by a gang of lvl 30 "Ironically, Spiders".

Yes, this was a tough one.
I had to drop down to Normal difficulty, after beating the main game on hard.
And I did use a level 27 party, all equipped with heal on kill weaponry, all equipped with guard on hit armour,
(building up full guard before battle with a few Gurguts) and naturally the mages were using fire staves.

And it had to be despair demons, easily the most annoying things in all of digital creation. I feel ready. I can't wait to defeat them, and defeat them I will.

I initially got creamed repeatedly by these enemies, but a ranged archer Inquisitor can loot as much gold as possible, then immediately stealth as soon as they appear. Dash back up the hill (where you commanded your party to remain before hitting that gold) and then snipe those enemies from the ledge above. Even if you send in your party and your team drops, cover will protect you. You just have to have patience to take them out, then collect whatever loot remains.

Does anyone one else which they scale the enemies better for when you started it.I don't mind them making it hard and difficult i wished they just made it more accessible to low levels or just make this available post game or after you completed the wardens and the ball where you be around close to the levels in this.
I just switched to pc never been that great with pc but i getting the hang of it but i'm playing on casual like i do with all rpgs (sometimes normal) first time around ,but i am playing for the story I doubt anyone would say they just play dragon age for a challenge!yeah you got people who play on nightmare for the challenge but i doubt few of them play only for that unlike for the story and party banter

Yeah, I'm finding myself at a much better advantage against stuff like despair demons with my archer rogue, especially since you can use evade often to avoid that ice spear and ice mine attack and keep firing while moving around. I hit that rift in the ravine in the Hinterlands at lvl 6 and I was finally able to take out those things from the top of the waterfall, though the lvl 12 terrors that constantly popped up there with their AoE attack complicated it. Though, this was on normal. I can't imagine even attempting this crap on nightmare.

How hard is JoH? I am still playing the main DA:I game and right now I am level 23 and ripping through with minimal difficulty (on hard difficulty). I thought the days of hard fights was over for me since I just crushed all the High Dragons (Mark of Death + Mark of the Rift + Thousand Cuts + trigger Mart of Death) easily.
I assume JoH has a difficultly spike but how much? Like GoA was from DA:O? Or worse?

This DLC is best played post main game partly because of the high level of difficulty but also because it fits there much better. It has no bearing on the main quest and it is difficult to understand why you'd suddenly take time out from Cory initially simply to find out about the last Inquisitor. Of course there is one character you can't take with you if that is the case but that would seem to be the only downside.
I never found that location so will have to go back and see how I get on. I'm something like level 28 now so it ought to be okay.

....,,....,.,..,.
Here have some punctations marks. You have lost them ![]()
But I agree. It would be nice to play some DLCs earlier in game. But it is only possible if the enemies scale and the DLC doesn´t have to much good stuff to comletely ruin the game balance.

I just killed them on Nightmare.
Blackwall tank, Cassandra 2H DD & MM (merry magebreaker), Inquisitor & Sera Archer DDs. Lvl 24/25. Turns out 60% Cold Resistance for the entire group with a maxed out potion renders them almost without opposition! (Yet it feels a little like cheating)
Tharr pirate gold be mine!

P.S.: I'm almost certain there was a peculiar sound effect playing right after I slew the very last one - anybody know if this unlocks something, other than letting you loot the gold in peace?

@OP: Were you using fade cloak at all? It didn't look like it. Your KE wasn't having any trouble keeping his barrier up when using spirit blade, but ran into trouble whenever he got knocked down. Fade cloak gets you back on your feet immediately, and (when upgraded) gives you a big chunk of barrier.

I did it rolling 3 mages (with static cage), the cold resistance, and a warrior. I find controlling and keeping the demons from flying about far more important than any measurable DPS boost from a rogue character, but then I heavily disfavour the rogue in both DA:O and DA:I (for different reasons).
