I've defeated them on Hard at level 26 (Cassandra/Dorian/Iron Bull) without enough focus to use a focus ability; granted I'm playing as a Knight Enchanter and Despair demons use barrier quite often. I was using a frost staff because I could not be arsed to return to Skyhold and craft a fire one. (Everyone but the Inquisitor was dead by the end of the fight)

I can confirm on normal difficulty a single Mark of the Rift/Static Cage combo did them in. Granted, this was a fully leveled mark, but it was still a one shot. I was still buffing my party for frost damage when I realized they were already dead.
Three mages and templar (not focus abilities) was pretty doable too, especially since my canon character was principally a pyromancer. I'm going to have to side with those that found Gurd more difficult. When I re-roll on hard I will see if I feel the same.

The first time on Nightmare they absolutely creamed me ;-)
But I've done them both with and without using mark after that with mage, archer plus 2 shield tanks.
Make sure you have full guard before the fight starts (+5 guard gear), protect mage and archer with Aegis and use barrier and dispel the whole time.
Contain with Static cage (add Mark if you want) and then the key is to micromanage everybody to make sure everybody is attacking the same enemy with maximum damage at the start so you fast get rid of 1 and then 2 of the enemies.
Have to say that Gurd is harder because it's a much longer fight, and more that can go wrong, this one can be done fairly fast when you figured out what to do.
Fun fight though ;-)

I killed them but was coming real close to ragequit frustration levels. ![]()
It was a huge difficulty spike. I did it on my 2h warrior templar spec PC, playing on Hard. Had Vivienne, Sera and Cassandra. Drank a lot of potions and had to use the tactical camera.
I think Viv was fire speccd (cant remember since i have so many playthrough versions lol). Cassandra and I went down at least one and I had to get another to revive us. Interestingly, Sera never went down and was tearing them up with leaping archer attacks. Took over Sera a lot to focus attack on one.
And that is my only tip. try to get most the party to focus on one at a time.

Me facing them on hard as a reaver...
i did not even use much of her class abilities.

I had more trouble in Korkari Wilds when the darkspawn emissary lured me to the traps and fireball'd my ass. So, no, not even close to hardest fight.

Aww gosh, I stumbled upon that area by complete accident...and got my ass handed to me royally. I returned the favour by throwing all kinds of fire attacks, cold resistant tonics and LOTS of dispel.

I did it at level 26 on hard setting. I was a reaver like some others and used whirlwind quite liberally. I only had Dorian with electricity spells (due to Solas being gone for obvious reasons and Vivienne of as divine). Static Cage works well here. He was also set to dispel and barrier as preferred. The other two were Blackwall and Cole just doing their abilities. Blackwall did have walking fortress and horn of valor set to preferred. Also Cole had Mark of Death and Stealth set to preferred. I did use Mark of the Rift early and used Aegis like twice I think. Hope this helps.

How's the fight on Casual? (My personal default difficulty level).
Depends on your default class and how you prefer to play. If you prep for it and set up static cage and MOR around them using the tactical camera, I imagine you will be able to defeat them pretty quickly.
If you struggle to contain them though, I imagine they'll kill you pretty quickly, even in on casual. Despair demons get really annoying when they start positioning themselves on all sides of you.

I personally enjoy killing any and all Despair Demons and relish in their horrific death cries as their souls are sucked back into the void ![]()

Leroy Wiped within moments the first time. Second attempt lasted thru two. Third time was the charm, set traps at spawn point prior to aggro, used the recently acquired Rift Shield which seemed to help, concentrated on one target at a time and healing mist grenades.
