The longer it takes, the longer before we have to experience the disappointment of discovering it isn't better - or even as good - as what we have now.
I don't know if you mean specifically about those series or games in general, but if you mean the latter, I heartily endorse this product and/or service.
Making it easier for devs to make games should be a slam dunk for improving quality of games across the board, but it hasn't really done that yet. There's eleventy bajillion throwback games based off of NES and Genesis titles, first person shooters and high-concept games that look nice but don't really do anything. Meanwhile there's whole genres like RTS that have been begging for a new franchise for about a decade, and no one wants to step up to the plate and make one.
From a purely critical standpoint, games right now are experiencing a golden age because of the technical proficiency of a lot of devs, big-name and independent alike. Unfortunately, most of these games and franchises are dull and interchangeable. They may be fun, but many of them lack expert execution or apply good concepts to good gameplay. People buy these games on Steam and play them, but most of these titles are forgotten not long after they get released and collect dust on people's virtual shelves.
Mass Effect was a glaringly obvious idea for a game: a galactic space opera RPG that wasn't Star Wars. KOTOR was a smash hit and nobody but Bioware put two and two together and understood that a space RPG was a brilliant idea. They just took Star Wars out of the equation. Lo and behold, we get one of the greatest series to ever walk the planet (er...galaxy), which spawned a huge franchise that not only sold a lot of copies, but sells a lot of merchandise and is a huge draw at conventions. It wasn't that hard. They took an idea no one else was using, applied good game design, and gave it stylistic flair (great VAs, great music, great atmosphere, great background lore...until the lore got inconsistent in the second and third games).
The games that are coming out right now are so dull. Developers are sitting on phenomenal ideas for games but no one is bothering to make them. Instead they flood the markets with generic multiplayer FPS games that are suffering from diminishing returns, generic "old school" games, and similar uninspired titles. They may be good, but are they memorable?
