*snip*

Yes and why is that? Because games are big business now and publishers don't want to risk losses if they produce a game that won't sell. The biggest sellers are mostly sequels, going into the 15th iteration or more now. Console gaming makes considerably more money than PC.

With all that it is no surprise that studios won't invest millions of dollars into new franchises, especially not when they are PC only. They can't afford the risk. Big publishers like EA could afford losing some money... but they are ruled by their stockholders, which means they will do what's most profitable.

Even if you somehow coded a brilliant new game, you can't afford to get good VAs, you will have next to no marketing and sooner or later you will be forced to get investors who will then make changes to your games to appeal to a larger demographic so you can make more money.

Yeah, it's only too bad pulling this off is tough in random pug matches because to many play crap like GI, AIU, Ghost and what not. Random pug matches should be just that; random and varied enough, not everyone playing only those kits I listed and only with the most OP weapons too because BioWare messed up balancing this game for long term. (Pugs also provide different mindsets on how folks play. Something you can't replace playing with the comfort of friends)

Tried to find some games with my Justicar Avenger X just now. Couldn't find any normal enough lobbies. Eventually gave up and hosted my own and got ready on the kick button. First one in, an AIU Reeger X. Gave it some time until buddy seen my Avenger and challenge points to see if he'd adjust or leave? He left. Someone else joined and left too that I didn't see who. Finally the lobby instantly fills with the worst/new to Gold pugs I crave. Mission success. Only one guy didn't extract due to Phantom sync kill. Next game only one person leaves to be replaced with an AIU Raider V. We start out next on Glacier with a stronger team (me even using Volus Merc Lancer X), and one of the pugs from the last game now starts nuking spawns?!  I bail out.

And I'm here to say I'm done with this game. Taking another break right this instant. See you guys next time I return if it's before ME Next. And hope you guys have better luck at longer term replay with this game.

An RTS like Age of Empires doesn't need good voice actors or a budget of any grand size. It just needs good gameplay and good netcode so multiplayer isn't crippled by lag.

A lot of small studios could make a game like that, and seeing as how the competition is practically nonexistent, it'd do just fine.

I actually value your insight Mark....

even though you're wrong most of the time. ^_^

It's really valuable having someone who is reliably wrong. Have I found my niche?

How would we hear about it with no money for marketing? The big publishers are spamming all media with their crap, all the little indie studios get drowned out.

The same way that indie developers on Steam get their games heard out. It's not that hard.

I bought maybe 4 or 5 indie games on Steam, mostly because they were dirt cheap. And while I look at new games, most simply don't appeal to me because the games are lacking something.

You should start a thread about it.

Exactly. Most of them are bland. Not many games have particularly original content or much in the way of style. Most indie developers are good at coding things but lack the conceptual or artistic prowess to make what they have into something great.

My headset is held together with electrical insulation tape.

Duct tape is for losers. :)

I'm joking, by the way. Duct tape is the single best thing created by man.

My headset is held together with duct tape too!  And if I switch the mic input off, it squeals at you.  So squealing or sneezing or yelling at the woman, which would you rather hear?  Because every game with me you will hear one of those.

I did buy a new headset last year, it worked for exactly 3 weeks.  That was when I taped the old one together.  It's 10 years old and still works.

I had a LOT of issues with headset mics crapping out over the years. Cheap ones, nice ones, they all just seemed to hate being in my house.

Bought a set of Sennheiser PC310s about 17 months ago and haven't looked back. Worth every bit of that $60.

I have the Turtle Beach Earforce P11. Or something like that. It works perfectly fine, brilliant sound quality, etc, and a wire long enough to reach across a medium sized room. It's just the wire itself that keeps splitting in places - the one connecting directly to the headset, and the one connecting to the volume control box thing all have wires showing, so I fastened it up. :) The headset cost me like £35 from Amazon.

I want just a microphone. I don't like to wear headsets, mainly because of my glasses and because I'm used to my surround sound system. So far I haven't found anything good though.

I definitely recommend the Turtle Beach Earforce P11. Just be careful with the wire, and have some electrical insulation tape handy. It's the best headset I've had, and is fairly wide also so should be able to accommodate your glasses.

I have to retire first, but I can't. Retirement is for old bastards who just don't have it any more.
