Well, Templars can apparently block damage taken through Bodyguard if Shieldwall is activated, so I think we are even on that part.

The game only operates with on/off for abilities, so the mob is either blocking, or it isn't, and if it is blocking, then there's not alot to do but wait.

Sword mooks seem to enter a "block" mode at certain points, eg after a set number of auto attacks. They have a separate animation which telegraphs this, where they lift their sword up slightly, at which point it unleashes an invisible shield. Following this is a brief period of invulnerability from frontal attacks. If two characters are attacking from the front and one triggers it, it will block both. Successful blocking causes a stagger. If left alive, they can perform a counter which knocks you down. Not sure if it causes increased damage in the same way as the archer escape shot.

You can force them to do this, then sidestep / walk away from it, because it is a slow attack, then punish them in this vulnerability period where they are attacking (they cannot block while performing this counter)

Good to know; when blocked in the past I've always just run away because I'm a coward. :D

So when did this start?  Joe average enterprise security guard mook from Vents and the Red Tramplers, no shield, just a sword and a rawr!  charge!  And the buggers are blocking half your attacks.  The funniest one was my leaping shot and seeing 10 'blocked!' symbols coming from one guy.

I don't remember this level of blocking in the past, a 'balance change' I assume?

It's a bug, they're supposed to call out "Haya!" for every block they do and make unrelated Eastern Martial Arts noises in between and do ridiculous posing.

Why cant we drain them of their stamina like what happens to you when you hold up Shield Wall?

Because they don't use stamina. They use the force.

I love the logic, I can backflip shot, or whatever its called, and your man holds his mighty sword of resilience out and blocks all 12 shots. Glorious

Hold on, just so I get this. We're all OK when I move from a standing upright posture, into a back flip covering 10-15 metres and while in the air at the apex I release 12 arrows that are all on target, but we have a problem if someone manages to knock those arrows out of the air?

I don't think the issue here is one of logic.

i've noticed grunts don't block run canceled auto attacks (keep canceling the first hit), like at all. gonna post a 30sec vid later on it when i get home. its not as efficient doing it with 1h weps as it is with 2h weps but if it means i can get around that stupid block you bet im gonna do it everytime. this doesn't stop them from blocking your skills or your allies attacks though.

Just some practice and exercize and you'll do it without thinking about it.
