Why are you being a jerk?

I've come to recognize some on BSN are just jerks for no apparent reason. It's interesting because I've never seen this same level of hostility and condescension on any other board, whether it's BGS's forums for The Elder Scrolls, CDPR's forums for The Witcher, etc., nobody is as unwelcoming and immature as some of the BSN folks. I merely report the behavior and let a moderator handle it.

I'm happy some folks find the "leak" to be compelling and exciting. I merely do not agree with the reasoning because many of these same posters merely want to scrap what was Mass Effect in order to start over. Dragon Age has already done that twice since Origins and I wouldn't say either attempt was overwhelmingly successful. I much prefer consistency over going an entirely new, uncharted direction.

AC forum can come close but this still has first as far as I know.

I'm with you here. Though ME isn't very consistent with combat RPG side(which it had its reasons for), it has always felt like ME to a large degree. This leak doesn't feel like ME from reading it, it feels like a Space game useing ME name just to sell more(just my opinion, before I get attacked).

Bulling about the "leak" on the forums has been entertaining and I personally REALLY want the leak to be genuine but I am trying not to get excited since the real game might be totally different. I admit it seems both suspicous and logical that so much of what we know is displayed in this "survey" such as the Mako, ship, new region of space, new planets/races, clean slate Hero who is skilled but untested (I know I heard that somewhere before this) and some other stuff and how it seems to fit together perfectly (or too perfectly? Or are we too skeptical?) but I will be satisfied with a new crew, new adventure, new Hero, and a baller new ship and Mako whether we're in a new Galaxy or not.

Most of that info is rediculously easy to find, and old on top of that. It in no way help's the beliveability. The rest is copy paste from other games makeing it even less believable. Originally I thought it was real, and I was woried if I'd be able to like it, but I reread it a couple times and it started reaking of untalented writing which is not something Bioware does much of. Not arguing with @LordSwagley, this post just made it easier to express my point of view on the subject.

Ah. I've dabbled in a few forums for Ubisoft games, but not AC. I definitely can see how that would be a turbulent place. BSN definitely takes the cake as far as I'm concerned from my various experience with game forums over the years.

True. Combat was something that arguably needed to be resolved. I think BioWare may have perhaps focused on the shooter aspect too much by cutting off a lot of the RPG elements, but I still thoroughly enjoyed the end result overall. Other than combat, I'd agree ME has been largely consistent.

Yeah. Having a few familiar faces with a ship and space doesn't make the game Mass Effect. If that's what some posters took away from the Shepard trilogy, I think they missed a wide variety of points to the experience and should replay through them again. Either way, I don't care if I'm attacked or not for expressing my opinion. Clearly, people are quick to attack others here. I'd just rather BioWare stay true to what Mass Effect is rather than reboot it and change it drastically for fear of criticism.

During N7 Day last year, the BioWare Montreal folks discussed how the new protagonist was not going to start out as an established hero like Shepard. He/she will have skills, but his/her reputation will develop over the course of the game. Yeah, this really seems like one of those scenarios where the "leak" is "too good to be true." It certainly has a lot of what some folks want, but that doesn't necessarily make it reliable.

I'm perfectly fine and dandy with a new crew, ship, adventure, etc. I just don't believe you have to complete disregard what has come before in order to achieve that goal.

Again, google exists. Maybe instead of posting silly image responses you should educate yourself?

The Inquisition survey was available on at least 3 different survey sites and two of them were completely general purpose. There were surveys for TV shows, cleaning products, movie promotions, etc. Why don't you even try to educate yourself before making these ignorant, incorrect statements?

Telling me to google your baseless claims is not how it works. You back up your nonsense, until that, it's just you telling me a story.

What Dragon Age has done was change the appearance and tone in all 3 games but they are all still connected to one another story wise as characters makes appearances in all 3 games, locations are revisited and plots are continued.

With ME4, it looks like it is not a reboot, but rather an escape from the events of the ME trilogy by taking place in a new galaxy. That is not a reboot just cause it takes place in a new location. ME2 took place in a new location (Terminus Systems) but would you consider ME2 a reboot?

Besides, it will be hard to take place in the Milky Way considering the 3 possible endings of ME3 and how Bioware does not want to declare a canon ending. So to play it safe, they leave to a new location where the events of Shepard has no effect. That isnt a reboot, restart or a remake. It still takes place in the same universe as the ME trilogy, just in a different galaxy.

I am excited! :)

Perhaps. I'm just of the opinion most of those who want this new galaxy essentially want a reboot. This is likely because they didn't like the ending, can't see a resolution to it, or don't want the Shepard trilogy to have any impact or consequence. Hold on a second... When were we playing Call of Duty here, a shooter-on-rails, where choice has no impact on the story or future games whatsoever? Wasn't one of the major points of Mass Effect to have your choices have impact? Why would BioWare, a developer who made it a cornerstone of the franchise, then throw it away? That is what I cannot understand.

Calling it a story is generous. People can believe what they want but until BioWare confirms or denies this survey via E3, it seems to offer more contradictions than actual parallels to what BioWare has said thus far.

On the contrary, there was no connection between DAO and DAII whatsoever. Other than Hawke being from Lothering, Cullen showing up and Kirkwall, and a few cameos from Alistair, Sandal, etc., there was virtually no connection between the two games. It wasn't until BioWare created the Dragon Age Keep, emulating the Mass Effect save import scheme, to try and connect all the dots together into one cohesive game. In other words, it was pure fan service to try and give people the illusion that their choices mattered, when things such as OGB, Alistair being king, etc. actually had little consequence or impact on the game. Now, folks essentially want another DAII, which is a new game that really has no parallels to its predecessor. We saw how that worked out last time...

Going to a new galaxy would be a reboot. Everything changes. The Terminus system was merely a new sector of the Milky Way. We still had access to familiar locations. In a new galaxy, there would be no connection to the Milky Way whatsoever. It is entirely starting over. BioWare will incorporate a few familiar species, but essentially everything would be brand new: races, worlds, etc., with little regard or respect for what made Mass Effect previously. This is far more than just "an escape from the events of the ME trilogy."

No, it would not be... We have explored 1% of the Milky Way. There were not many active Mass Relays and much of the galaxy was still unexplored. In other words, the events of the Shepard trilogy only had an impact on known sectors of space, not the entire galaxy (there are billions of stars that were never touched). BioWare doesn't need to "play it safe." They have created one of the most iconic franchises in recent video game history. Better to use what you have than start from scratch and hope people stay on board. You may be excited, but the idea of the Shepard trilogy having little to no effect and BioWare just inserting random fan service (look, there's an Asari, there's a Krogan, there's a Turian, this is Mass Effect after all) to go to a new galaxy is odd, not supported in the lore or any of the games, and unnecessary.

I don't see how discussing rumors, of which developers/publishers rarely, if at all, will ever comment on is conducive or productive for understanding the next Mass Effect, when all that was revealed by the "leak" is just a DAI clone in space. That doesn't even sound remotely like Mass Effect. To be quite honest, it sounds off-topic if I were to be frank. The only reason people are giving it the time of day is because some anonymous person over the internet said it was "Mass Effect 4."

Disagree think there's many people who accept the possibility of a new galaxy setting is because they value the notion of Bioware respecting their choices & not overwriting them to an set official canon or poor attempt at merging the variables, which would be necessary of the story was to remain the milky way.

For the record, I like the endings. I just don't think doing justice to the divergence that makes them interesting is truly feasible. I also think the Shepard trilogy got all the resolution it needed, so it's time to move on to greener pastures, a fresh start with a new story.

Discussing this is also a way for developers (were they so inclined) to get an idea of what people would and wouldn't like based on what they see from rumors/leaks. So there's obviously a relation.

Whether they're excited or dreading it, people deserve to share their thoughts. I'm actually looking forward to the new game regardless if the rumor is true or not.  :? But it sounds to me like you're more insulted because of how much you dislike the concept in the survey, and people talking about it somehow "supports" the concept. Could be wrong though.

What is there to overwrite? There doesn't need to be a canon ending. Make the reapers go back to dark space and make the glowing eyes of Synthesis temporary. Problem solved. I don't see how staying in the Milky Way, of which only 1% was explored, is not feasible.

Are you absolutely sure it's really "right"? If it were a mistake, wouldn't BioWare just fix it? Questions.

I'm not interested in a return nor another resolution of the Shepard trilogy. I just want the Shepard trilogy to actually matter and not run off to a new galaxy because of "ruining player choice" or "starting fresh" or whatever excuse people want to use. Again, reapers going back to dark space and Synthesis glowing eyes wearing off over time resolves any issues and I wouldn't call that ruining any of the choices.

On the contrary, homogenizing the endings like that is the one easiest way Bioware could possibly make the Shepard trilogy matter less.

If it all comes to the same thing no matter Shepard's choice, that is exact opposite of the Shepard trilogy mattering in my book.

I've been here for a few years and I'd say 80% of the discussions are what people want in the game or are what we know. Rumors seldom pop up because they are rare and generally false.

As far as feedback, the next Mass Effect is so far in development that our opinions at this point matter little. The game already has a direction and it will stay that course regardless of what we say, unless the game is just universally hated.

Not at all. My only point of contention is this idea of "needing to go to a new galaxy." If I were "insulted" by anything, it's the mere fact people are more than happy to just throw away the Shepard trilogy like it never happened and reboot the franchise by going to an entirely new galaxy which has no relation or connection to the past. In a sense, one could make the argument, if the "leak" is true, that BioWare is creating an alternate universe  (meaning no connection to the original) without any actual point or purpose.

We already know this to be true from the N7 Day video BioWare hosted. BioWare talked about how the new protagonist would be skilled, but won't be an established war hero like Shepard was.

I'd hardly call that homogenizing. Each galaxy state is still vastly different due to the implications and how the galaxy perceives it. Not to mention, the dozens of other major choices you made throughout the trilogy to further separate everybody's galaxy state. It's merely on how BioWare were to address it that would matter.

You could have all reapers head for dark space, it would be a rather weak cop out in the synthesis ending where they are freed. Equally you could i guess pretend the husks all leave with them too.

You're downplaying the effect of synthesis though. Even if you retcon it so that colour goes away it still changes everything at a fundamental level from organics, to environment to AI's. Trying to shoehorn it into a single merged ending would require massive overwriting of the intent.

What about the Geth? Dead?

Extent of relay damage?

Fate of Quarians? dead?

Fate of Rachni? dead?

Fate of Shephard & Co if you try and set it anywhere within lifetime of squadmates.

That's just off the top of my head.

As I already said, I firmly believe accounting for the endings and other points of divergence adequately is outside the realm of possibility.

And yes, it is homogenizing when you suggest something like just making the glowing eyes fade as your solution to synthesis. Because you imply that would be the only difference between an individual in Synthesis or another ending. What of the radically different society implied to emerge from synthesis? What of a Galaxy that has been ruled by Reaper-Shepard for centuries? But none of that matters because "oh, they left"? If anything, I find your attitude to be the one more dismissive of and willing to throw away the endings.
