I wonder how upset people are going to be when I point to threads like this one when people start complaining about BioWare not sharing any information about the games they are working on until the last possible moment.

You obviously don't know how businesses are run.  This happens all the time.  NEVER expect alpha footage to be part of the game.

Trouble is, people want BioWare to feed them information every step of the way, but then if they do that, those same people spit venom if a lot of those preliminary designs or mission sequences end up being cut.

This might be the 4th time I see the exact same topic. Once a month I think.

As far as people complaining about peeps still playing on old gen. Shut up and buy all of us new machines!!! I have REAL bills to pay for, I don't have hundreds to spend on a hobby. It took me 6 months to pay for my copy of DA:I. 10 bucks here, 20 there. I would love to get a Ps4, but I can't just drop around 600 on it with a game or 2. If they were backwards compatible, then I could save some for the machine. And still have games to play. That's why I don't play on PC anymore. I can't afford to invest a few hundred dallors ever 3 months to keep it up to date, video cards, sound cards, RAMs, ect...... any ways later.

Feel free to keep playing on old gen. Just don't except to be able to play new games. And as for "I can't afford to invest a few hundred dallors ever 3 months to keep it up to date", that is a myth and you know it. Making up stuff won't get you any symathy.

"One problem the team did have to tackle was maintaining Inquisition's simultaneous development across five platforms, including two console generations.

"We established fairly early on we would maintain gameplay parity. Visually, obviously, we knew there would be differences - if there wasn't then we'd have severely missed our mark. PC is a powerhouse now, PS4 and Xbox One have the benefit of a decade of hardware development." The PS3 and Xbox 360 in comparison have "memory limitations", Laidlaw continues, but sometimes the limitations lead to new ideas.

"Yes we could have had more enemies on screen, but instead we were able to think about how we could have enemies that work together - buffing each other, for example. Was there a potential for us, if we went beyond Gen 3, to go further? Sure, but we have to build a game that we are able to ship in the box."

Sections of the game were adjusted as a result, as it became clear that some ideas were not going to work as originally planned. A version of the game demoed at PAX Prime in 2013, around a year before the game's final release, showed hints of a war simulation system, where players would have to focus on building up and maintaining military strength around their captured keeps.

"We had to do some changes," Laidlaw admits. "That was something where we had a good working prototype but we hit a snag due to the technical limitations on it. Having multiple forces fighting works fine on PC but you end up in a situation where having realistic-feeling war on the older consoles is exceedingly challenging."

The game used to feature more environmental destruction, too, and a greater number of options for solving missions. Boats could be burnt and bridges collapsed to affect the strength of enemy forces. These items were cut based "a little bit [on the last-gen] platforms, a little bit about the flow of the gameplay," Laidlaw adds. "We didn't want to build a military campaign simulator and have one zone riddled with that but others that don't have keeps be different - we wanted a consistency across the game.

"So it was about recognising the things from playtests where we realise we can almost do something but it does fall down at a certain point. And we did reuse some of that - for example, when moving the trebuchets in Haven - so we didn't throw 100 per cent of the systems out.

"But do we have a hunger to revisit those systems and explore them? Absolutely. Environmental interaction adds a mental level to the game where you feel like the world is more responsive and aware of your actions - where you can, for example, accidentally set something on fire.""

Thanks lynroy for providing the official respond with regards to the current state of the game and the reason why...

No one's complaining about people playing on old gen, but the issue here is that people want the games to be able to do more, and that's limited by the cross-gen compatibility. If that clashes against one's inability to fit a new system into their budget, I suppose that's just tough nug.

As for PC upkeep, lol 3 months. That's crazy talk.

I haven't upgraded my PC at all since I built it more than a year ago, and it runs Inquisition just fine. Admittedly it was a pretty good system when I put it together, but hardly top of the line.

(Well, OK, I replaced the keyboard because I spilled orange juice all over it. But nothing that relates to its actual performance has been altered.)

Personally - I'd wait an extra six months after a console release for a video game if they would just make them achieve PC potential.

This is one of the only industries that doesn't provide a superior experience for customers that can handle it.

So they fucked the gameplay and tone of the game because they just HAD to put it on last gen consoles?

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

**** EA.

Seriously, the lack of strategy, of actual leadership to put you in the role of the Inquisitor is why I find this game such a disappointment and such a chore to play. The gameplay doesn't work with the game's theme or premise or plot.

Last time I impulse buy a Bioware game.k

Most creative projects start off differently than they finish. Over ambition is a thing, after all. I've little doubt that same couldn't be said for any one of Bioware's past titles. So what's the point, exactly? XD

Although this does bolster my efforts to avoid pre-release game footage, trailers, interviews and the like. Over hype is a dangerous thing, as are unkept promises. I'd rather remain blissfully unaware of what might have been and enjoy what is provided! XD

I dont' think many players want Bioware to feed them info every step of the way, that's just not possible. What players want is consistency from Bioware side when it comes to showing gameplay demo. Clearly, the sudden change of turn Bioware took for DA:I isn't new and this kind of habit has to go.

Lastly, in my opinion the release version of a game should be better and more complete than the alpha/beta version but what we are getting at least for DA:I seems to be the other way round...

I'd not seen this pre-alpha footage before, but suddenly loads of things make sense! DA:I is a huge world but it just feels so empty. There're ghosts of these mechanics all over the world. It's a shame it got cut. I was really surprised by the choice to release on the Xbox 360 and PS3. I have saves running on my Xbox One and on my 360 for side-by-side comparisons (because I'm a nerd) and the 360 version is just terrible. Yesterday, my bae Dorian managed to nudge me through a wall and I got stuck in an infinity loop of falling through the scenery and dying.

I know I'm just about to buy my annual membership to the "waaaa, why is everything so ****? waaaa" club. But I really wish the game was just made for PC, XBONE, and PS4. We might have seen some of these features then.

I don't feel the DA:I properly takes advantage of Frostbite. I would have liked to see more interaction with the world al la the ship burning etc. At the moment all you can do is bust a few doors and useless crates.

Why would an independent Bio have been any more willing than EA-owned Bio to write off that many sales?

Why does Crytek make games only a super computer can run decently? Because they want to.

I don't know if they would have or not. But at least they'd have a choice. EA doesn't care at all about its games, just the money they make, so if you have to **** the game to make it run on last gen consoles so you can squeeze that extra bit, EA will always say **** the game.
