Hello everyone.

Basically what my title says. I have allowed it through my virus(spyware)thing (I only use windows defender and windows firewall I don't have any other.) I have the Origin In game unchecked (All notifications and stuff from a YouTube video) and I have it run through Steam (for the screenshots) and yet it STILL does not work.

I have tired to unchecked the steam in game. Didn't work.

All mods have been used soooo many times before. I haven't played Mass Effect for 5 months. All I have read in the forums is that ever since Origin did an update, it has been messing with everything.

If there is an overlay messing with it anyone know how I can find it? To turn it off? Or what apps have an overlay? (I don't have raptor so I know that is not an issue.)

I just... I just don't know what to do at this point. Any help would be VERY appreciated.

i don't actually have any experience in using texmod, i've always used me3 explorer. but it think there is something to do with a batch file when running an origin/steam game.

You need to move texmod.exe to the folder where masseffect3.exe located, then rename texmod.exe to masseffect3.exe. Launch the game in Origin, this will launch texmod. Load the mods you want, then rename the files to their original filename and start the game from texmod.

Here's the code that will do the renaming for you when you run it, you'll need to create .bat file and move it to the folder where masseffect3.exe is.

Spoiler

As an alternative, I'd suggest installing mods with ME3 explorer, you won't need these workarounds and there's no serious increase in loading times when you start the game. Your game files will be overriden when installing a new mod, but if there's some problem, that's what backups are for.

With ME3 Explorer and Texmod. A simple hair mod by GirlPlayGames.

I do the renaming thing all the time. Should I make a .bat file instead? Would that solve the issue?

I don't think that's the problem. The bat file only does the renaming and is not running while you play. This black texture problem might be caused by wrong load order or conflicting mods. Try moving the hair mod textures to the top of the queue in texmod and see if you're not running two or more mods that modify hair.

No. I only added one mod to the texmod queue, which is the hair. It happens with all and every mod I have ever downloaded.

This is the only mod that I have applied after I went and vanilla the game because of a Direct X issue. Before that Direct X issue, I was having this same problem.

Thank you though. I really appreciate this.

Sorry, I'm out of ideas... try using the Large Address Aware fix for the game as it allows it to use more system memory or open the configuration utility exe in ME3 binaries folder and under repair, click on delete local shader cache - this was used to solve the black texture problem in ME1, I think it might be worth giving it a shot.

There' still ME3 explorer, if all else fails.

There is no "Repair" in the MassEffect3Config.exe and what is an Address Aware Fix? Where would I find that?

And its ok. You don't have to apologize! You helped me in anyway you could! ^_^

Here's the LAA fix: http://www.techpower...s-aware.112556/

It's a program you have to download, select the exe you want to modify, check the box, hit save, wait for a sec, done! It is especially useful when using a lot of mods in ME games as they can only use about 2-3 GBs of system memory.

Even with windows 8.1? I read one of the comments and the person who created (or works with this) Says that you need to have windows 7 or vista otherwise they dont recommend it.

Mass Effect is a x32? I didnt know that. (huh... Learn something new everyday! =D)

Those comments were written about two years before Win 8 release, so they must be refering to XP. And yeah, ME is 32-bit, as it installs in Program Files (x86).

You don't need LAA for ME3.

Have you tried running texmod in logging mode with draw control and texture info turned on? It should load the game with red text in one of the upper corners (left I think top of head) so you can see if texmod is working at all, if it doesn't or it crashes when trying, report back.

I'm a bit out of the loop btw, caught your messages on tumblr but been sick as well so slow picking this up, sorry.

Tried it and I dont know what happened... My screen went black and the computer restarted 3 times. But it did not work. Thank you though!

I didnt think of that!

I did run it through logging mode just now and nothing showed in the top left corner! =O Is texmod broken? Do I need to download a new one?

And its ok Ottemis! <3 I super appreciate this though ^_^ GET WELL SOON!

Texmod not functioning like this is usually due to overlay effects, if you're using the batch rename process over an Origin load and Origin ingame is already turned off, there might still be other overlays in play souring the pot. Think of things like raptr or Geforce Experience, to name just two.

I like to use logging mode as I can more easily see if texmod is loading (over just loading one tpf and loading a save to see it function).

If you can get logging mode to function, package mode should work fine as well. I would suggest testing working functionality without going through steam as it just adds complexity at this point, once you can get texmod to function you can always revisit that.

How do I turn it off? I dont have raptr but I do have Geforce Experience. Maybe that is what is causing it not to load? I will relaunched the game through Origin only and see if it works. I will keep you updated. Thanks Ottemis! You are awesome!

Nvm. I had to uninstall it. And it did not work. At this point, I don't know why it wont launch any textures even if I permanently add the mods through ME3 Explorer. It just wont launch any textures. I can add any .upk's but its textures just wont show.

I'm going to see if I can install it and run it through my brother in law's computer. His computer doesn't have all the fancy things this computer of my husband has. Something is preventing both ME3 explorer and texmod not to launch the textures. I cant figure it out and I rather not make him angry if I mess something up I wasn't suppose to.

This is too much work for one game to work. I feel exhausted.

Thanks for all the help! <3

ME3Explorer does permament replacements (to gamefiles), so that one not functioning is an entirely different issue we could investigate.

ok. Should I go to the ME3 Explorer Forums to add this problem there?

If you're looking to use a hair mod you'll need texmod regardless. You can't permanently install hair textures, most mods don't replace the 'right' hair texture to make it possible. Pretty sure GPG works with the Allers hair, so you're out of luck with that one.

Still pretty positive there's an overlay messing with texmod functionality. It's entirely possible you have more than one running, you'd have to sift through your running processes.

So I just tested it out on my brother in law's computer and I can confirm that ME3 Explorer and Texmod wont work.

His computer does not have Geforce, raptr or steam. The virus scanner is turned off. I turned off Origin's in game overlay when I had to install it there.

I really don't know what is going on.

Well, I dont know about processes. I dont really know what to look for that blocks texmod from working. It used to work before. 5 months later, I want to play and I cant.

Well there's plenty of reasons either program might not work but unfortunately not something I can always help you with part from directing at the general culprits in the case of texmod, being overlay effects or virusscanners blackwalling it's temp functions. In the end it boils down to you narrowing down and finding the culprit.

For me3explorer this could be a legion of things. Troubleshooting it is more involved but often 'easier' with the ability to debug most issues through either the debug window of ME3explorer itself directly or by running it through Microsoft Visual Studio with the help of a project coder.

I don't know what is different but it made it work! Everything works! I CAN ENJOY THIS GAME AGAIN!

Thank you for all your help! ALL of YOU! I'm in tears right now ='))))
