Once reaching Andromeda the rag tag intergalactic refugee fleet loses all contact with the Milky Way and has no idea what happened at the end of ME3 because all communications from the entire Milky Way galaxy have ceased. The entire galaxy has gone dark. 

 

They wouldn't return to the Milky Way galaxy until Mass Effect 7. (After a fully fleshed out trilogy in Andromeda). Upon returning they find that most Asari seem to have mutated into some  Banshee like hybrid and they are at war with the Krogans who seem to have mutated into something Brute-like with greatly enhanced levels of physical strength. 

 

At some point they run into Aria T'Loak who has somehow survived the Reaper war and is leading a third party of rebels that refuse to take sides in the conflict. She is completely unchanged by the Reaper war but she is massively pissed off at the results. 

 

Ok wait I'm changing my story a bit...In ME7 when you finally return home the highly intelligent so called "Dark Asari" are taking over the Milky Way galaxy and they are using the 'super Krogans' as muscle. Kind of like how vampires use werewolves to do their bidding. 

 

The Turians and Salarians have teamed up again to stop them but they are on the ropes when you arrive. 

 

Aria T'Loak is still pissed off at the whole thing though. 

 

 

Additional edit: You arrive with your newly minted Andromeda tech to help stem the tide.

It depends upon my position on the team.

 

1. If I was a lower paid on the team, I'd make sure the coffee and donuts were well stocked.

 

2. If I was the lead writer on the team, I'd gather the team together and say: "We've a sh*tstorm to write out of, so we're doing some drastic things. Some people won't be happy, but they'll suck it up and buy the game anyway because we'll make it a good one. We're picking a single ending to the game: The Crucible fired and the reapers blew up. The end. None of this red, blue, and green crap. Wrex survived because .... Wrex, and that means the genophage cured, but fix the Krogan reproduction so they don't overpopulate. The Quarians have Rannoch back. The Geth? Come up with something. It's 100 years later. Now start writing."
