First - numbers

Milky way galaxy has at least 100 billion stars. Thats 100000000000+ stars.

It is HUUUUUGE.

Now,Mass Effect lore covers tiny percentage of it,vast overwhelming majority of Milky Way is Galaxy incognita,so to say. Empty canvas upon which writers can draw their stories.

So why new galaxy is needed? One can argue that it is result of various trilogy choices, especially RGB variations creating too many different scenarios to tackle in game, but frankly it is not a serious problem. All developers, even Mass Effect team themself, when faced with this problem simply reduce the impact and importance of previous choices.

Face it,even different RGB endings can be "mutated" into same starting point for next ME. Just throw in 1-2 different slides or dialogues with different text explaining how exactly it all happened. I don't recall any example of writer feeling the need to delete entire galaxy to deal with that kind of pretty mundane problems.

The only real explanation,in my opinion,is that people who created ME3 conclusion felt that there was no way to defeat Reapers - thus the entire original ending as one weird puzzling poorly explained dream-like sequence, they could not end trilogy openly with defeat,so they opted for blurring it enough to hide it. There was no plan to go for sequels so it should not have been a problem.

But since same people are responsible for creating MEnot4 and there is relatively low support for prequel ,the only way to continue the Mass Effect tales without compromising their original vision is to relocate the familiar existing lore to different scenery, without Reapers.

Say,2-3 million light years away.

Nope the me3 endings can't be all accommodated in a new Milky Way sequel without ripping up the choices and canonising/merging consequences. Hence the appeal of andromeda approach.

Sure they can.

All it takes is imagination ;).

Fast forward few decades - century, populate the galaxy with people that have tons of implants and nanite clouds keeping them healthy ,mass relays are been repaired just now due to all the massive destruction and loss of industrial and technological capabilites due to the war, make the ending of reaper war be treated like some kind of myth because nobody really knows why reapers stopped and there you go.

It can be applied with same success to destroy, control and even,God forbid, synthesis.

Just few different slides/lines of dialogue for each player's choice -like, reapers ship crashed for some reason vs reapers ship retreated for some reason and there you go. Same template, minor variations that need minimum development time. Certainly less time then forcing new galaxy on the lore.

I share this thought, the endings would've to be reduced to a simple color swap, like before.

Harbinger has won. He has turned BioWare Montreal into Collectors and half of BSN are indoctrinated husks who believe Andromeda is the only solution. Well played, Starchild...

While I might not agree with the whole sentiment OP. You are kind of right.

After all with a whole new galaxy it really does not matter in the slightest what happened in the Milky Way. Reapers won or reapers lost or a magic unicorn rode around shitting daisies until everyone agreed to stop fighting. IT DOES NOT MATTER. IF indeed the leak is true they wrote off the whole of Milky Way with all of its potential because a couple of people wanted an "artistic" and "memorable" endings. They should have just done one with differences based on what you did during the games. Like in the DAO. It worked well as a standalone game, it would have worked well if no more games were made after it. It concluded the story in a satisfactory manner with enough explanation of what happened after.

Lets just collectively pray to the Enkindlers, the Goddess, the spirits, the fuzzy bunny, whatever....that its not true.

I'll pray for Blasto to save us all... but I do agree with your remarks.
