If you're looking for a juicy story, I don't think Doom is a game for you.

DOOM is juicy alright. And there's lots of stories ... you can drop demons down from.

Now in earnest (and directed to the SJW debate), DOOM isn't a game that tries to take itself serious, or engage in political/ideological discussions. It's a straight up fungame whose sole purpose and defining quality is to be so ridiculously over the top that you can enjoy it without needing an engaging, intricate story framework. Would it add to the experience? Maybe. But when am I supposed to take note of story when I'm busy gorifying fiends of Hell?

Obviously, that isn't something everyone can enjoy and that is fine. Frankly, I'd be disturbed if no one would have reservations against the soleminded guts'n'gore galore premise of the game. It isn't exactly my cake either. But saying this game holds an ideological message is pure projection of one's opinion bias. It's a phenomenon that's as classic to human mentality as it is a rhetoric and literal device: refuge in audacity. Being so balls-out ridiculous that it can basically do anything it wants to, exactly because there is no equal in reality. There are no hellish legions of demons, no portals to Hell itself, demons are no misunderstood, unfairly villified and discriminated demographic that's being brutalized by oppressive white male cisgendered patriarchs or whatever.

Tell that to SJWs like McIntosh and his master.

Anyway, I love the break-action shotgun. There's something about old world weapons being in a sci-fi atmosphere that really gets to me.

People saying DOOM is too violent clearly have no idea what they're talking about, ... it's not nearly violent enough. Also, not enuff dakka. Needs moar dakka!

This whole "too much violence in video games" butthurt is beginning to seriously annoy me.

Especially after the mass hysteria concerning "Hatred".

Video games are like comic books in old timey days, a scapegoat for society's woes.

I'm a demon and I find DOOM to be quite offensive and slanderous. Not all demons look as gross as those monstrosities. Not as violent either

I wouldn't compare DOOM with Hatred. Hatred is obviously just an attempt to cash-in on social hysteria.

Generic badass Marine broke his superior's jaw after being ordered to fire on civilians and was sent to UAC facility on Mars. UAC were into some space-time doorway bullcrap on Mars' moons, Phobos and Deimos. One day, oops demons are coming through and one of the moons completely disappeared, the UAC and military then sent the security detail to the other moon to guard it. You were left guarding the door while everyone else went into the facility and died.

Yep.

From DOOM 1?

When I played DOOM 1 and 2 my English was below poverty line, so I couldn't understand it.

And I wonder why do people expect Biowarian Story from a 90s shooter game?

Yep first game, it's all in the manual that I still read occasionally; the authors have a real snarky sense of humor.

personally i just expect 90s shooter games to stay dead, not be remade 100 times a year for the next 20 years

I played more Adventure games in the 90s. How about those come back (TellTale is kind of starting that trend, I guess)

The only shooters I want to see come back are space shooters.. EA's been sitting on Wing Commander for years.

Aye, Star Citizen is a good start, but most of those games are multiplayer oriented with shared environments, with the pure singleplayer components being somewhere in between.
